how to make an animated avatar?

i was wondering if my one could tell me how to make an animated avatar? someone once told me to use GAP (gimp) but is there and easier way?

Okay......
Get the pictures you need, and paste them in.
Go to filters> animation >convert to .GIF
There should be numbers next to your layers in the layers palllet.
You can change those to change the speed.
You can re arrange the order ect. to your liking.
I would suggest looking up some tuts, though.

You can find tutorials on planetrenders and gamerenders if you need to. I find IRCS2 the easiest. :/
