Final Fantasy 7, the best? *thinks*

I was wondering why FFVII is considered the best by so many fans, compared to many others in the series (4, 5, 6 come to mind first) Were so much better. 7's story line is so straight forward. You know who is bad, who is good, who you need to fight, its all laid out plainly for you to see early on in the game...This[ means, you dont really get to know the villains for themselves, since it focuses only on your group trying to stop said villain. Now, 4(I believe it was, with Cecil, everyone's favorite dark knight turned paladin) Has to fight his best friend, Kain(A dragoon/lancer for those that dont know) thinking he had turned to the bad guys' side, only to later find out he was under a mind control spell and being forced to act against the friend he had grown up with.

Final Fantasy 5, had one of the scariest villains i have encountered, A black Mage Knight named X-Death. He was so evil and powerful he had been sealed in another dimention for a thousand years!

6 had one of the biggest twists in a game I had ever seen, Also the villain in this title, Kefka, in my opinion made Sephiroth look like a baby. Kefka atually managed to destroy the world and recreate it in his image (reffered to as World of Ruin) where he was a god who could kill anyone that spoke ill of him anywhere on the planet.

FF7 simply had Sephiroth, who if you look at it, was a grown man throwing a tantrum. I just cant take that as serious...

Well for many people, it was there first 3-D RPG. It was a solid game throughout, but what I mentioned before is what made it get overhyped.

I found the game decent at best, the character development wasnt up to par with anything before, or after that one either though, I enjoyed 9 much more than 7, storyline and gameplay wise

It was very popular for many reasons.

#1 - First game to truly utilize CG Video to tell a games story.
#2 - First true 3d-RPG
#3 - Most popular villian in gaming history

List goes on... although as for it being as great as people claim... not even close.

Final Fantasy VI has remained as my personal favorite among the FF series although that has unfortunately come to an end.

In terms of Gameplay... it goes to XII Hands Down!!! No competition at all, they took everything that was great about FF and basically perfected it.

In terms of storyline I must now lean to XII as well... it is nice for a change to play a FF game that does not revolve around Bad Guy vs Good Guy with an added Love Story.

XII has no direct main character (Similar to VI), so much back story so everything is clear and in perspective.

XII also has one of the most INCREDIBLE stories in FF History by leaps and bounds!!! No cheesy Love story, No real Good Guy vs Bad Guy and/or Evil Being rubbish. Story is Dark and full of twists, keep you wanting to play just to see what comes next. It seems for once like a story that could actually be believable.

If you have not had the chance to experience this true RPG gem yet, do yourself a favor and give it a serious try.

Even with all this AMAZINGNESS, FF VI will always hold a spot in my All Time Favorites. :D

EXACTLY! I liked IX way better than VII, The characters were awsome and all but I wouldn't consider it the best.

I never played VII, but like Arc mentioned before, it doesn't deserve that much attention. IV and VI were amazing!

Final Fantasy VII has been deemed by the Final Fantasy gaming fans overall as the most successful and infamous Final Fantasy title in existence. This can be supported accross the web so type in Final Fantasy VII at google.com to find out. There are many reasons, alot of which have been posted already.

1) The very first of the 3-D Psone Final Fantasies and a beta for CGI-Animation. Although it appears graphically inferior now, at the time of it's release Final Fantasy VII was one of the first video games to support the new 3-D graphics and was a great step in the technological advancement of video games.

2) The storyline is in-depth and even breaks through the boundaries of it's own settings. Most video games before this time (even other RPGs) had very simplistic stories that allowed you to run through a game in a single day. Final Fantasy VII was gorged with history and culture from within its story that hooked gamers and kept them playing. On top of that, the new graphics and story length kept gamers playing for days. The storyline (in a very brief summary) was all about following the villain's actions and learning more about the villain's intentions along with the games history. The thrills of it all kept people from becoming bored.

4) The characters. Unlike many games around the time of the glory days for Final Fantasy VII, every character in Final Fantasy VII had their background rooted deep into the storyline of Final Fantasy VII. Their were no loose cannons. Many of the characters appeared distant in thought and feelings, and some just seemed enigmatic. But they weren't just nobodies, and the gamer became greatly attached to the main characters and their plight throughout the game.

Those are the main reasons for the success behind Final Fantasy VII. Everyone has their own opinion including me. My favorite Final Fantasy isn't VII either. Mine is Final Fantasy IX. But all fans of Final Fantasy have to realize that VII was the most successful overall.

No, we are discussing Final Fantasy VII. All Final Fantasies that proceeded Final Fantasy II (the original Final Fantasy III did not incorporate CGI-Animation into cutscenes and didn't even have any) incorporated CGI-Animation into various cutscenes. I agree with most of what you wrote, except for #4. To actually get to know these characters well you needed to go outside of the storyline and figure it out on your own... for example... the Biggest problem I have with the Game is Sephiroth. While he may be the most popular villian in gaming history he actually has nothing to him. He is a cheap rip off of Kefka from FF VI. Only that Sephiroth is a confused person and not entirely evil.

Everyone knows full well that he is not the offspring of Jenova, but the offspring of Lucrecia, now for someone who is almighty powerful and "wise" he didn't see any of this in Prof. Gasts books? Highly unlikely. Just by knowing this alone it should have brought closure to Sephiroths past and made him see things in a different light. This is my opinion, and the basis for why I think his character is weak.

Then I look at a character like Cloud and see nothing but a compete panzy, his backstory is horrible!!! I don't even want to get into him, but what I will say is that if Cloud really thought he was Zack, and supposedly knew all that happened in Nibleheim... how did he know what went on inside Jenova's Holding area? Wasn't he outside of that room tending to Tifa?

Now if you say "It was because of the Mako infusion he had", then that means he only remembered what happened before he was infused and somehow remembers it only as Zack saw it... now my question is this too... wouldn't he have remembered him and "another" person being prepared for the infusion too? Funny how he somehow completely forgot about that "other" person.

The whole backstory to FF VII is very shaky and has way too many holes in it and could have been done so much better.

I agree with ALL of what you said. The prehistory and the stories behind most of the characters isn't as original or deep as it could be, and there are so many holes that Nomura continually fills them with strange continuations such as Dirge of Cerberus. It added a new spin on Final Fantasy VII and explored a new prestory on Final Fantasy VII. But, the character all have roles in Final Fantasy VII.

i.e. Cait Sith is controlled by a Shinra agents spying on the actions commited by Avalanche. Yuffie is a Ninja trained by the Wutai, who have been feuding with Shinra since before Final Fantasy VII began.

But, I notice during the story that the characters begin to lose sight of their path. What are their goals? To stop Shinra? To defeat Sephiroth? The characters go back and forth on that.

I believe that the main reason people thought Final Fantasy VII was the best is because it was a major breakthrough from 2D to 3D, although that doesn't seem like a legit reason to say it was the best Final Fantasy ever, let alone one of the best games ever.

They kinda overdid it after FF7:AC though. I welcome Crisis Core but not DoC. It was too much like DMC except...well, not as good.

FF7 is much longer then FFX.

With X, you basically get the main idea of the story and you can finish it quite quickly.

I love FFXII the most really, because love stories are beginning to bore me..ALOT, I didn't mind DoC, though I didn't take it in either. Crisis Core is a definate welcoming in for me. However VII indeed has it's good points, it was more of a political thing, mixed with a main badguy. I mean we already knew by heart that Sephiroth was the main villain, however it's more of a JENOVA being the main villain rather then Sephiroth, after all Sephiroth is more so over just a puppet in a way.

Though there are characters like Rufus, who isn't evil yet...well he really isn't good either. It's just one of those politician things that make you believe Rufus is evil because you're fighting for the other side. Which is probably one of the ways the game did shine. Though I havn't played FF7 for years so don't look at me for bringing up points.

I think FF7 is the best. i beaten the original FF7. it's pretty good and i saw the movie. it was so cool, then i beaten DoC, it look pretty good. I think im goin getting Crisis Core playin as Zack and Before Crisis playin the Turks.
