Many people have complained about their school not having any uniforms. They say that it reduces the amount of harassment/bullying in the school and it would apparently put an end to bomb threats and lockdowns.

Yet, people say it's a violation of their rights. Some say that there's no point to uniforms, and it wouldn't help a thing. Others say they won't even wear them if that time comes, for it violates their Freedom of Speech.

What do you think about school uniforms? I have to agree with the second paragraph...I wouldn't wear a school uniform if my life depended on it.

Well, in middle school I had to wear uniforms. It was clearly ANNOYING having to wear it. We had to spend money just for uniforms. We could've used the money for something better. The worst part though was that we had to tuck in our shirts. >_<

I hated uniforms... they were so damn itchy. Sure you don't get made fun of for the way you dress, but it just isn't worth it. I remember there was something called "uniform infractions" that if you got 2, you would get suspended. -.-'

I think it's dumb.

=/ I'd just get home schooled if everyone decided to go with uniforms. It's ridiculous.

Bah.

My sister had to wear uniforms, and I despise them. Most of the time, for girls, it's a plaid mini-skirt with some ugly school shirt. If I wanted to wear that, I would do it myself. Fortunately, I haven't ever worn one for school. ^^

Besides, no individuality. I like wearing the clothes that I go out and buy for ME to wear! I would hate having to change when I got home or only wear normal clothes on weekends.

so, yeah. i could go on all day with this debate. :P

Our uniform is awful. It makes us warm in the summer and cold in the winter, costs around £100, is heavy (I notice the difference so much on the rare non-uniform days), and supresses our right to expression of individuality. It even extends to our hair -__-. I perconally don't see the point in it. It is apparantly there so that we can represent our school and to create a 'working environment'.

If you are not wearing your uniform properly you get a detention on friday afternoon with the headmaster. For things like hair they can ask you not to come back until you get it sorted out (i.e. dye/cut out an 'extreme' colour [hair has to be all the same colour] or cutting long hair [for boys that is hair touching the collar -____-]).

I think that pupils would be much happier in casual clothes, parents would be much happier because they wouldn't have to buy an expensive uniform (which is also a method of selection as if you can't afford the uniform your child can't go to the school), and it would be allowing us our rights as human beings.

Back in the days at catholic school I had to wear them, which I didn't really like them but I didn't hate them either. Kids are always complaining about it, and really its not that big a deal. The main complaint that I hear about them is that they 'take away individuality' but you don't go to school to stick out and be noticed, you go to learn. And anything that helps that is fine by me. Once I hit middle school and high school I remember being quite distracted by what girls were wear and/or lack there of. I don't see the big deal about them, mine were fine not heavy or itchy. They were a pair of ****ies or slacks and a polo shirt you had to get from the school.

The whole point is we don't have a choice of what to wear. A lot of the time I probably couldn't care less what I wear but I'd like to at least be able to choose.

About being distracted by what girls are/aren't wearing there could be limits on how 'revealing' clothes could be.

It's just I feel so much more comfortable in my own clothes. On non-uniform days it actually feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can run up and down 4 flights of stairs all day without dying >_>.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, nothing is more comfortable than a pair of jeans and a Fox Racing shirt to me. I would much rather wear that than a polo shirt, but to me it just doesn't seem like a huge deal to wear while at school.

And as for the girls, well there were dress codes for them, but no one ever really inforced them unless it was outrageously inappropriate. So compare going from seeing only ankles and knees in elementry school to being in middle school and girls wearing mini skirts. Who wouldn't be a bit distracted. Plus there is that part of everyone that say they have to atleast look presentable.

There's the difference between the cost of a polo shirt and a £50 blazer (£70 if you want a woollen one >_>). Add to that shirts, trousers, black shoes and the tie and you find you have a rather hefty bill.

Also, coats (like raincoats) have to be official school coats. No denim, school scarfs etc. It's like living in a police state >_>

Damn, thats hell of alot different in the UK. We never had to have a tie, coat, raincoat or anything like that. It was just a pair of navy blue slacks, and a school polo shirt, and for the girls it was a plaid skirt.

In this case then I feel your pain on that, thats a crap load of money down the drain.

I've been weering school uniform ever since kindergarden,so I'm used to it already.

But what really bothers me is that the skirts are so damn long and it gets even worse in summer.

I don't recall ever haveing anything close to a uniform until my Junior year of high school. Before that it was the usual, 'No ratty jeans, no drug/alcohol images on shirts, no profanity etc.' that sort of thing.

But the summer before my Junior year, we got a letter from the high school I went to. I knew about the dress code but I didn't know it was going to a an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with the dress code on both sides. This was imposed by the bishop of our diocese.

I remember the Middle School petitioning for uniforms it was so bad.

I don't remember everything on it but I do remember a few things.

-Girls skirts had to be the length of their arms when held to their sides.
-Graphics on shirts had to be 3" x 3"
-Shirts with tails had to be tucked in
-NO BLUE JEANS Colored jeans were fine.
-Shirts had to have a collar on them. (Girls could wear fitted plain tees)

There were more but I don't remember them now. But what I do remember is the difficulty my Mother and I had with finding clothes that fit into the standards of this dress code along with all the other parents buying clothing.

Now I was in the middle of my Goth phase so I didn't really wear jeans all that much. Really my dress was black pants, black fitted shirt, and my boots. I missed wearing my black addidas jacket I lived in for my Freshman, Sophomore year. Since the building was basically cement blocks and brick. It retained the cold from the winter and the heat from the summer.

With this dress code, a good chunk of my classmates transferred to other schools in the area. To give you an idea of this chunk, we came in as one of the largest Freshman classes Wausau Newman had ever known. By the time the class of 2004 had graduated, we numbered 32.

Now I'm in college and there isn't a dress code. I'm not one of those that goes in pajamas to classes. Jeans, comfortable shoes, a tee-shirt and a sweatshirt depending on the weather. It's rather nice to be comfortable while learning.

I agree with spitfire, you don't go to school to be noticed or to stand out. You go to school to learn and be taught. Dress codes do cut down on bullying over the clothing styles you wear. Not saying it cuts it down entirely but it reduces it quite a bit.

My two cents on the matter.

One good point I just thought of for school uniforms is that they prepare you for later life, because in many workplaces you have to wear a uniform of some description.

If nothing else, you'd learn how to tie a tie ;D

Well, at my school, we should just have uniforms. Our dress code is so strict. Like, the girls cant wear tank tops, belly shirts (of course), Shirts that are too short or show some of your back, the girls cant wear shirts unless the sleeves are 3 inches wide and they cant wear shorts unless they are six inches long, longer than your middle finger tip when your arms are at your sides, or an inch or less above the knee.
Nobody can wear chains on their clothing because it's "hazardous" and no one can wear scarfs(girls) to school and we cant have piercings anywhere but the ears. Which mean if you have your nose pierced, you have to take it out and then it closes up so you wasted your money. Of course our "undergarments" cant show or we get a detention and depending on what you got in trouble for, lets say your shirt or jeans, you have to wear an ugly shirt that says the school name and wear red sweatpants like MC Hammer would wear from 20 years ago. Yeah they kept them that long.
My school is very strict when it comes to the dress code but they let the High Schoolers off a bit, Yay me!
Anywhoo.. They should just have uniforms in the first place, I wouldn't mind at all. I'd feel more like Kairi. =] Yes I'm obsessed!
The school tried to get uniforms but couldnt for some reason.. I think it was because they werent a private school or something.. I dont know.

I wouldnt mind at all though. Even though some people would be ticked. Some of you say you would have no individuality, I know everyone likes to be themselves and project who they really are. And I respect that. But uniforms reallly do stop all the bullying for those that do.. Like one girl, she's gothic..well.. sorta.. and she is always made fun of and I feel bad for her. Sometimes I think the people making fun of her are too uncomfortable with themselves. Hmph.

Theres this girl at my school, one of my "friends", and she teases me because I have colored plain Tees that I wear everyday, of course they're different colors, but I dont have all that much money to go shopping, kay? Anyways.. she's always like "Sarah, pink's the color today huh?" and then I'm like, "Yeah.." and she does it everyday but with a different color and then she tries to guess what color I'll wear the next day. It must be some kind of "game" she plays because she's bored with her own life.

Sorry, totally off topic there. Now.. Back on topic- I just think, from personal experience, uniforms wouldnt be all that bad and stop the bullying and what not at schools. (Plus if my school had uniforms, we'd have white and blue.. Just like Kairi!!.. Shut up, I know I'm obsessed.)

Yeah that's probly the longest post in this thread.. heheh.

In some ways I love uniforms. The pants for some reason are always comfortable (don't ask why). And some of them at schools look really nice and professional.

But I also don't like them because it doesn't allow anyone to express themselves.

In a way they are good and bad...

Good- They are good because some people may not have the money to keep up with the latest fasion trends.

Bad- They restrict creativity and the prices of the uniforms themselves are probably more than the price of a few shirts and jeans.

I personally think they are a bad thing!

I personally don't care one way or the other. I have no reason to disobey the uniform, so I guess I'll wear it.

In my opinion, if it is a public school only basic public decency rules should apply (no 'plumber clevage or overexposure of regular cleavage, or profanties or strong pgraphic content, ect.) But as for private schools, uniforms are part of their rules, after all, it is a PRIVATE school in that they can circumvent the "expression" clause just as they can circumvent the "religion" clause (think PRIVATE CATHOLIC schools if that does not make any sense).

Now, in my opinion, the uniforms are both a good a bad thing. Security and professionalism, plus the reduction of bullying are some of the good points. But some of the main bad points as was mentioned earlier were cost and "loss of individuality".

Now then, here are some counterpoints for that "loss of individuality".
-If you play a sport you wear a uniform.
-When you graduate you wear a uniform.
-When you go to a school dance you wear a 'sort' of uniform.
-When you get a job you will most likely have to wear a uniform.
-Expression is a privilage in a place that is intended for work.
-Wearing conventional (ie: guys can only wear pants, etc.) clothing in on itself is a UNIFORM. (Not that you should go streaking or anything, but you get my point.)

(Unless you are a fashion designer or someone else in that profession, you will most likely not be given much open freedom with your clothing WHILE WORKING.)

So really, uniforms in a place that is supposed to focus on academics....expression is great, but why rely on only clothing to express yourself? Besides, you can always express yourself with your clothing AFTER SCHOOL. Anyway, that's my analysis on that.

(But in hypocritical retrospect, school uniforms really shouldn't limit girls to wearing only skirts- I say this because of the change in the social settings.)

I hate school uniforms! HATE HATE HATE!
1st Having a high price just for uniforms!
2nd NO INDIVIDUALITY
3th It is very hot wearing the freaking school uniforms (made me hard to breath!)
4th I can't express any of my feelings right because of school uniforms
5th It looks kinda dorky wearing them all the time in the school premises (but in some school i'll make and exception :) )

I would put more but i only have 40 minutes till i go to school (I ALSO HATE SCHOOL!)

Ah, I'm torn here between good and bad. Sure, you lose your sense of individuality, but at the same time it stops kids from wearing suggestive themes that could get them kicked out.

Back home where I live, the middle school and younger crowd can't wear any sort of graphic tees because the guys would walk around with shirts saying "Free Mary Jane" with a big pot leaf on it, or a Corona shirt with scantily clad women on the back. I've seen 10-year old girls wear shirts with the "My eyes are up here, idiot" thing on em. They're 10!

I do have a funny story though. My brother was sent home from school to change in the 8th grade for wearing a shirt with the Pillsbury Dough boy on it, sporting the phrase "Poke me and DIE!!"

I say that they should let people wear things that are at least appropriate. If you won't show individuality, doesn't that mean mean discrimination of your rights?
But....I also see the point to uniforms, if you want to join them, you have to dress like them......

Repliku

I'm rather torn on the issue. I can see the good points to uniforms and the bad points.

The good points:
School uniforms provide a uniformity to classes and students. No one is going to be showing off their 300 dollar pants, 150 dollar sweater, named brand stuff while the poor kids have 10 dollar Walmart shirts or skirts. Also, gang paraphernalia would be out the door. There wouldn't be 'color wars' in the hallway over a stupid bandanna. It would eliminate discrimination of students based on attire which -does- happen and is really annoying. Also, kids couldn't get picked on for wearing a piece of clothing twice in the same week, not even on the same day. I really hated that I had a T-shirt I liked and someone called me dirty and nasty because I wore it on Monday and then on Friday. Of course it was washed! Another point is that it stops the need to make 300 rules for students to follow such as 'no spaghetti strings', no armpits showing, no belly's exposed, pants are up covering your butt, etc. Some students ruin it for everyone else by constantly wearing things to push the boundaries of the rules, if not cross them. Uniforms would cancel it out.

I'm not saying individuality is a bad thing, but we all do not look alike to begin with, and in school, individuality is not so important. We're there to learn and too many people take school as social hour or mock other kids hour or brag about your stuff. People can still express individuality by art, jewelry and hair styles, make up etc.

Now the bad points:

You do lose some rights to individuality and sometimes you do have to pay for uniforms. Also, some student uniforms are UGLY!!!! I've seen a few I might consider but most are really disgusting and out of date. They could do something besides plaid skirts for girls. No one wears plaid. And they could just let guys do clip on ties. Maybe add -some- style to the attire so the kids look nice and all but also so they don't look like total nerds, and the uniforms should be easy to maintain, and not having to be ironed. Kids do a lot in a day as it is. Also, they should consider student comfort and the climate the student lives in so if it's warm out there is different attire than when cold. If the skirts and pants are made out of wool...which some are...yech. You'd be itching all the time. Also, I think that there should be times people can wear a t-shirt sort of attire and pants, and why do girls have to wear skirts? I just think that some thought needs to go into school uniforms before they would be accepted and being forced to wear them shouldn't make you feel like you are 'ugly' yourself. If I'd have to wear one, I'd want to look good. I'd want to sit in comfort and be casual like work casual Fridays or something, rather than looking like a religious school kid from the 40's.

Zandyne
09-10-2007, 05:44 AM
Actually another point I believe mentioning that is relevant that people seem to be bringing up as a "negative" for uniforms....PAYING FOR IT.

People pay more for their A&F and Juicy and whatnot attire then uniforms (though I have a limited scope)-

But generally even though uniforms are not cheap...they aren't exactly wallet-killing expensive (in my experience, 42$ for the whole uniform). However this was at a private school where really, you're supposed to be playing by their rules anyway.

Repliku
09-10-2007, 06:01 AM
42 to 60 bucks isn't bad for a uniform really, considering the way kids go to school with much more expensive attire easily. I wouldn't have figured it would be too expensive either.

Nearly all the Schools in Australia have school uniforms. My school uniform is so ugly. In summer we wear Shorts and a Shirt, and in Winter we wear Pants and a Shirt with a Tie. The Tie has to be up at your neck all the time but only nerds obey this rule (I dont obey this rule because im not a NERD!)

The uniforms make everyone look like Grey and White Mental Patients:yelling:

8730
09-10-2007, 04:19 PM
$42?! That is like £21 -__- That would get you a cheap blazer from like a supermarket and then you would have to sew the school badge on >_>.

As for bullying over clothes and gang wars etc. I don't know anyone at my school who would be sad enough to do that. That would be a local problem that would exist already at the school.

Also, regulations on jewellery and hair are as strict as the uniform regulations at my school. Jewellery for guys is pratically non-existant, and for girls it's the bare minimum. Guys can't have hair touching the collar of your blazer (which is possibly the most sexist rule I've ever heard of, and I plan to fight it if I'm told off for my hair >_> FIGHT THE POWER :3).

Laurence_Fox
09-10-2007, 04:31 PM
Some of these remind of me of school uniforms era 1950. Which was rather...strict as far as regulations went.

One famous example is the length of the girls skirts. If they knelt down and the hem of the skirt did not touch the floor, they'd be told to change.

I know I said earlier that school is a place for learning. But does it matter how you're dressed? Should it matter your appearance to how you learn?

I don't think so.

But then again, a uniform is not unheard of in this day and age. Sure you hear kids complaining about it but as Zandyne said earlier, chances are you will have to wear a uniform/have some sort of dress code at work. Consider your school uniforms/dress a learning experience for this future happening.

09-10-2007, 06:38 PM
i wouldnt mind uniforms if they were something like what kairi wears xD but the uniforms for the local catholic school are ugly and expensive. the only complaints i hear about them is they take away from individuality and it stops bullying, but i havent heard anyone get bullied about clothes in my school before. and the teachers would have trouble making the kids at my school wear uniforms, since they can hardly control the students at all. and then there are the *****y parents in my district that complain about kids playing tag during recess. i cant imagine thier reaction if they hear that they need to buy uniforms.

No uniforms for us!

Good thing, too. I hate uniforms. The purpose of them is to get kids to be more concerned about learning rather than appearance, but really, I would be more comfortable wearing what I want to at school rather than what the school dictates.

The rules are, however very harsh. We can't wear flip flops, carry purses, or wear hoodies that don't have school related logos/sayings on them.

It sucks.

All uniforms are bad you say?

The police wear unifroms, nurses and doctors wear uniforms, various sports' teams wear uniforms and a majority of professional businesses wear uniforms.

Now if all uniforms were truly bad and you were able to abolish it, say you needed help at the hospital....HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHO THE DOCTOR WAS?! (Nurses and interns technically have medical experience but would you trust their advice over a DOCTOR?)

Better yet, say you called for the police to help you in your home for some reason, if they had no uniforms (Police cars are also a uniform if you think about it!) how would you know it was a cop helping you and not an accomplice to the criminal??

Calling a uniform uncomfortable may be one thing, but abolishing them on that sole point is like saying you won't take medicine because it is BITTER/tastes nasty! Also not all uniforms are uncomfortable, but I only have one school uniform to compare to, so I can't vouch for much more than that. c_c

calm down Zaydane, you're overreacting. i think that person meant that all SCHOOL uniforms were bad. i'm pretty neutral about it. i can see both sides well. the ppl for it want to prevent fights becuz students will do stupid things like beat the crap out of a kid becuz he's dressed funny. but then again, as for the ppl against it, they say it will get rid of self expression which is important. i'm really neutral.

Yet, people say it's a violation of their rights. Some say that there's no point to uniforms, and it wouldn't help a thing. Others say they won't even wear them if that time comes, for it violates their Freedom of Speech.

I like uniforms.

I'm not very fashionable, and I don't have enough clothes to wear something different every single day XD I don't like going shopping, either. Something bad happens to me every time (I see a classmate, I faint and they have to call the ambulance, something like that)

I think there should be a variety of what the clothes look like though (agh I don't know how to explain it >_<). When I was in elementary/public school we had uniform, but there were different types. Like different sweaters, skirts, pants, and shirts. At my newer-ish private school (well not really new, I've been here for a few years lol), theres only one type of everything. One type of sweater (actually 3 types, but thats only if its your last year at the school or your on a sports team), one type of skirt/pants, and if you're dressed wrong they make you wear something from the lost and found. T_T

I don't think every school should have uniforms, though. That's be boring.

lol, the complaining about having to wear uniforms and thinking they are bad is a bit spoilt of you. XD

We in the UK don't have a choice. Some of you that complain about it have you ever had to wear one before? (mainly talking to the Americans) They aren't all as bad as you seem the make them. To me it helps divide up school and well outside of school. It was easy to get dressed in the morning, just put on the trousers, tie, blazer and then some smart shoes. Of course it didn't stop social group differences. (chavs, geeks etc)

It also made going to Sixth form all the more exciting as there wasn't a uniform, of course there was a dress code.

Uniform and tight dress code is going to happen in the world of work. An office job requires a suit (which is similar to my old school uniform) other jobs have only one type of clothes you can wear. I guess it's all down to the culture. In Japan people are proud to wear their uniform, while in the US it's more relaxed. While in others it's a must to wear uniform at school.

If you have to wear one from the get go, it just becomes the norm and you get used to it. If you change from the causal wear to uniform of course it's going to seem bad.

Wearing a uniform in school, not the greatest thing in the world. Is it as bad as people make it out to be? No.

I don't know why some people make a big deal out of it. Yes, sometimes preparing your uniform is a bit time-consuming and expensive but I personally feel a bit proud to walk around in a clean, good-looking uniform on a Monday morning. It also relates to the way people would view you as well. As many of you would know, in the real world, you are mostly judged by your looks. Whilst depending on the actual job, you wouldn't go to a interview or a meeting wearing a loose t-shirt and jeans.

Just accept it and wear it, no matter how silly you look. Besides, women love a man in uniform xD

Even though people hate wearing uniforms... it is better to actually have them. I mean if you can't afford new clothes then you may get teased for being poor, or for being unstylish. Wearing uniforms also can help against wagging. I mean you walk out of the school withyour regular clothes and people see you.. will they think you were wagging, or you had been given a day off. They may also help against crime, like if someone went missing, someone could easily tell the police which school they went to and may be able to track her easier as it gives a direction of where he or she was going.

I hate mine but its okay... you just have to get over it

meh, it's not as big a deal as people are making it. i've had to wear uniforms from kindergardren to 8th grade. after that in high school, i didn't have to. having to wear uniforms wasn't that bad, i mean you get used to it after a while. then again, i DID enjoy going to school in 12th grade with a shirt that said "FBI Federal Booby Inspector". but i dont' understand why some ppl think uniforms will make people behave better, i mean it's just some clothes. but i DID enjoy not having to wear uniforms so i think maybe the schools should be less strict about the uniforms? becuz when i was in middle school, i felt as if my life was a cartoon because everyone wore the same thing everyday

I had to wear a school uniform only in middle school. It was just something plane:
You had to wear a white colared shirt and blue pants(didn't matter if it was a jean just as long as it was blue)

The only thing I liked about it was that you really don't have to worry about what to wear. When I graduated from middle school some how I felt weird not wearing a colared shirt. But I eventually got used to that.

Now that I'm in high school all I see is a bunch of girls dressing as if I don't want to say it because it might affend someone here.I'll try and put in a nicer way.....its as if they are dressing for a guy to notice them and then lose their verginity. Then with guys I see them dressed as if they are gangsters or something.I feel as if they should put school uniform in my school.I think a couple years ago at my school there was a drive by and a kid got shot because the way he was dressed.

This is my opinion.I am sorry if I affended anyone of what I said.

Some people in my school just dress...bad.

Just not a lot of them, though. There are a few boys that dress really ganstar and all and some girls just dress with flashy clothes that seem to say, "Look! Look how much money I have, enough to afford these cool clothes!" It really isn't that bad to have uniforms. Sorry for all of you people who hated wearing them and were forced to wear them but I never had to wear a school uniform. I don't know how much I would like to... wearing your own clothes is a freedom who expresses who you are. Peppy people wear peppy clothes, gansta people wear gangsta clothes, nerdy people wear nerdy clothes, average people wear a wide variaty of clothes, snobby people wear rich and expensive clothes (not that everyone that owns an Abercrombie shirt or something along those lines is snobbish or anything.) and the list goes on.

School uniforms would give kids one less thing that they can use to bully others. A big part of bullying at my school has to do with clothes. Girls in their cliques will gossip and talk about peoples' clothes and compare it to their own and judge everyone by that. With school uniforms, the people don't have to worry about being made fun of at how they look.

Well in honesty I would rather have everyone wearing a uniform rather then the whores at the school who wear the skimpy outfits.

But it's really not a big deal, I don't go to school to express myself, I go to school to learn.

Hah! I only wish mine were like that. My uniform costs $200 all together, AND, get this, the socks(knee-high) and skirt cut my legs. The material will raw out my legs and when I take a shower or something it hurts like hell and my legs eventually start to bleed.

Uniforms are scientifically proven to make kids do better in school. The other school I totally love their uniform compared to the one I have now. If it ruins your body I don't think it'll help me do better in school. My dad is looking at a transfer to another school for my 8th year, 'cause I wanna go to the QP high school.

But it really depends on you're view on the uniform. Mine makes me depressed like when you shave a dog. They feel they've lost their pride and get depressed. Well, I know its stupid, I'm the same. I have a see through white shirt for the girls, and a navy blue skirt that cut you're legs and knee high socks also that cut your legs, and dark blue dress shoes. I'd take a picture of the cuts to give an example but my step-mom has my camera, I lent it to her when she went to see her daughter in Brazil.

My country.. The students in every school must wear uniforms except some international schools(yet, there are many still have students wear uniforms). I don't mind wearing uniforms. The adults think uniforms make students look in discipline though I still have to say.. there are many students break rules about wearing right uniforms such as pull your shirt out of your skirt or your pants, you don't stick your school booch on your shirt and get your hair dyed in bizarre colour :P.

well, in my case uniforms are pretty expensive we wear two types, the one for PE and the normal one, they both are normal, i really aprove of uniforms ,school shoulnt be a runway, (and believe me ,every kid at my school always wants to look "cool") i on one hand ,are grateful to uniforms ,mostly because i have too much clothing and would have to wash my clothing everyweek just to be not made fun of, ive had to wear uniforms all my life , since its just a polo with the insignia, and the other one is normal, i really dont mind, of course each one cost around 70$ each , and i have to buy like 4 pairs, but i only have to wash half of the mountain of clothes i have,

besides , i dont really care about making a fashion statement in school and i woulnt like to see everyone bragging about their shoes......THEIR SHOES!, and thats only the beggining!

School uniform is pretty much one of several ways to strip individuality from a child and turn him into a obedient, soul-dead conformist member of the American consumer culture.
I'm exgagerating (:D) a bit, you catch my point.

Uniforms are sooo annoying! I'm wearing them at my school!

In the high school campus of my school you can't wear jeans unless they give you a jean day and you have to work for them!

It is just another way to control us. If they want us to dress modestly shouldn't they let us practice?

2 years in elementary school and two years in middle school, I had to wear uniforms. Yes it is very annoying but it's also for our protection from strangers from outside of the school. If we were to dress freely, some younger looking high schoolers could come over and then would kidnap us or something. But still, I'd rather not wear our school uniforms.

I've been wearing a uniform for most of my life.

Best things about it are not having to think about what you have to wear, you can't get harassed for what you're wearing, and it really does make you look better when you're in public.
For example, my friends and I went out to celebrate after our finals were done last year and we were in uniform. Our waitress was really nice and polite to us, but seemed short-tempered with a bunch of other kids that weren't in uniform.

I'm not saying public school kids are rude and obnoxious. But the uniform does seem to command a form of resepct.

And it's not like you can't have little differences with the uniform. The school I go to now gives you the option of a dress code sweater, sweatshirt, or a school team jersey (like soccer).

Though dress code everyday does make you forget when you actually have a dress down day. Which can be annoying.

And about violence and "bomb threats": It's not the clothes you're in; it's the person you are. I've had personal experiences in private school where there is a kid that's just not meant to function in society. And guess what; he's now at the same highschool as I am. *facedesk*
I digress. I like my uniform. xD

I have to wear uniforms :\ After a while you get used to it. The only thing I don't like about it is that we have to wear belts and we have to tuck in our shirts. If we got rid of those two things I'd be fine. On Fridays we can wear jeans and school shirts (like extra stuff that you buy, like for special areas, not acadimic.). It's alright, I just want a black t-shirt I could wear you know?
