Well UK magazines are starting to review it so my guess for a release date is early Feburary, or end of the month.
And this thread belongs in the Final Fantasy area.

The release date for UK is February 6th.

Man...I read this article saying how long people took to beat the game.
60 hours minimum
300 hours maximum

Well, if you want everything, it's typically a 100-hour playthrough, or so they say.

I reckon it's going to come out at the end of the month, like the 22nd of Feb or something...cause that's the release date for FF12 in Aus.

it's awesome!! here's a bit of advice:
Work on leveling up Vaan, Penelo, and Fran first. Balthier's guns are incredibly weak compared to other weapons, and his Quickens aren't that great. Basch... I just don't like the guy. >.> and with Ashe.... ENOUGH SWORD-WEILDERS ALREADY!!! Plus, Vaan's Quickens are the most damaging, Penelo's are easier to recharge, with moderate damage, and Fran's are very damaging, maybe more than Vaan's.
Roxas

I went Vaan/Basch/Ashe. I replaced Ashe's weapons with staffs and staves, and eventually went with spears for Basch (for the Zodiac Spear).
Just planning ahead xD

Ahhh FFXII, have 108 hours and still working on 100%. Currently, I'm in the middle of a boss fight. It probably been an est. 2 hours of fighting him and I just have 2 of his 50 health bars gone. Lucky I can exit the fight whenever I want to restock on phoenix downs, hi-potions, ethers, etc. I still need to face omega after this <_<;;;

I haven't got FF12 yet but can one character use Black Magic and use White Magic at the same time? Being a Healer and Attacker?
Cause if you can't, I'm thinking of making Ashe a Black Mage and Penelo a White Mage. Or if a character can learn both, then Ashe and Penelo - Black Mage/White Mage users.
Roxas
02-19-2007, 02:01 PM
In the end, I just had everyone with everything.
One thing you want to do: Give EVERY character, even ones you think are gonna be your best attackers, white magic. You must. They can learn it, so they should.
Black magic is useless if you have 3 attackers in your party as well (which I did, and I raped the whole game).

Uuurgh, such injustice for european gamers. We always get games like almost a year after everyone else! *sigh* Hopfully with the PS3 being region free, this shouldn't be a real problem in the next couple of years.

I really must protest IGN's 9.5 rating for FFXII, and its vote for Best RPG of the Year.
Final Fantasy XII from an overall viewpoint, was a major let-down, and quite possibly the most overrated, overhyped FF title I've ever seen.
The story itself had incredible potential, however instead of flourishing the amazing cast of characters by developing their pasts, and placing twists every so often--something I would've expected from Square-Enix--I was instead graced by unfinished character mechanics and a very hampered storyline that seemed to go by in a few hours.
How they managed to do this? Those 100 so hours spent were mostly--if not completely (/sarcasm)--spent on those tedious dungeons that really didn't change from beginning to end. Although the sceneries were obviously different, you would basically thrash through endless numbers of enemies to get to the final Boss Battle. Unless of course, you actually liked spending hours doing the same thing over and over again--the dungeon mechanics completely failed in terms of providing me 'good gameplay'. I'm sorry, Square, the only 7 hour dungeons I like to play through are the ones in Zelda titles. Either you spice up your dungeon objectives or try again.
Second, in retrospect, Vaan and Penelo had absolutely no reason to be in the game. Penelo more so than Vaan. Vaan makes this gradiose statement some few hours into the game that makes you *believe* he has some purpose for constantly covering your television screen, but sadly this insinuation doesn't meet its end of the bargain as I stared at the ending credits *still* wondering what Vaan meant. The only redeeming quality about the character dynamics was the top-quality voice-acting that completely set the bar for many future titles to come. But those aside, development was stagnant, Gabranth became incredibly emo far too quickly, and to save spoiling for those who haven't played yet, I'll just say I've never seen such a potentially good character *die* in only two cutscenes. Talk about a smack in the face.
Music wasn't anything special, once again we all realize just how good Nobuo Uematsu is--I pray for the success of FFXIII's soundtrack.
All in all, I must say FFXII is like an offline FFXI that has an ending. The hours I spent leveling up in FFXI really reflected the entirity of FFXII's gameplay--except there's no one to interact with and no one to yell "NOOB!" at when they manage to train a bunch of monsters to your camp.

I heard that the storyline goes downhill dramatically at the half way point, but people say the battle system is a plus and highly addictive, but I heard that there is alot of leveling grinding, more so than most RPG's, but there is always lot of level grinding in RPG's, so it's nothing new.
But I can't say my opinion until I get it, which will be today since it's finally out in the UK.

I haven't gotten too far yet. I've only just escaped from the dungeons and all.
But I must say the combat system is indeed interesting, it's got quite a lot of level grinding too since I've already bought the license for Fira/Blizzara/Thundera but that's okay.
Ashe is so far my favourite character.

I'm only 4 hours in, and I can already tell leveling up is a chore, it takes ages to level up characters, which is a bit of a pain, but the story so far is great, voice acting is also great and the battle system is surprisingly addictive/

I'm currently up to the Mines. Make sure you buy a Ally:HP 40% or a 50% one for healing. It's more efficent than HP:70%
This should be moved into the FF section.

And I stopped playing it around Christmas time, too much of a chore.

I should really get around to saving up some more money to buy this game, I've been itching to buy it for a while now.
What's great is that Gilgamesh is featured in it, and so is Clash at the Big Bridge. ^__^

Well, I've finished the game, and haven't touched it since. The ending kinda put me off and made me lose interest in the 'side-quests' (can't be bothered doing the 'missions'... just a waste of time from the story line... specially getting the esper Ultima >_<).

It's a lot like FFXI's battle system.
Actually, the game itself is a lot like FFXI. Even the Mandragoras look the same. You spend more hours of the game fighting monsters than you do actually enjoying the story.
*anger and hate for FFXII*

I like FF 12 because it's different then most FF games (offline rpgs)
Despite the fact that the combat system is similar to an 'online rpg', you have no noobs running around for say, 99% of the time, asking you what to do and bothering you all the time.
I find it addictive. I'm getting quite tired of turn-based combat.

Quite honestly, I prefer this new battle system. I mean, come on! We had 10 games with the old battle system! Time for a change already! I know, I know, "if it's not broken, you don't fix it" but come on! The random battles HAD to go.
I'm sorry, but being attacked by monsters every ten seconds is not exacly my idea of fun. As much as I love the previous Final Fantasy games, I say this is a welcome and needed change. But, I will admit it probably would have been better if they had made the battle system more like Chrono Trigger...

Since this thread has been risen from the dead, I'll take the opportunity to tell you.
She's inside the mines, so you have to leave the viera's village and out of Golmore jungle - bring a potion with you, cause there's imperials outside who will trade it with the permission to use their chocobo to reach the mines, your first left. (follow the footprints)
Inside the mine there's switches that will turn red or blue, this is their security system against the monsters. Doors that are open while the red light is on will be closed when the light is blue, and vise versa. BEWARE the slime monster thingies, they're the toughest enemy you may encounter in there, and can cause loads of trouble. Make a member nuke them with oil and your most powerful fire magic. If you think you can't handle them, run away. (as you get closer to the end of the mines, there's a switch that opens the last door but there's way too many slime monsters there - I heard they killed that Belias esper, and I can see why... x.x)
If you aren't leveled up enough against the boss, you can use the teleport stones to get outside if needed. (buying stuff or something)

Hai guize need some help.
Recently got the game, great and all but, is it normal that Vaan always has 0/42 MP? I can never seem to regain it, even after using an Ether and going to the saving points. And I'm pretty certain at the start of the game it was full.

You probably gave him the dawn shard or something? something like that drains all your MP
I sorta did the same thing with Fran when it put Silence permanently and wasted so much Gil on Echo Herbs..
Though im pretty sure you have equipped something for him which lowers mp

As amazing as it may sound, in one temple almost in the middle of the game (up in a snowy mountain) you'll want to let one member of your team have the Dawn Shard equipped, especially if the enemies inside are of higher level than you. It's this switch thing that is a trap for "intruders" who don't have the shard, or so I've read. Saves you unnecessary trouble.

BWHAAAA SMALL RANT
I get the impression SE expects up to level up by 10 levels in between each mission. Jeebus, the level of the monsters shoot up drastically from region to region if you ask me. I find myself doing HOURS of leveling up, and admittedly it's getting a little tedious.
But thanks a lot for that tip cocohints. I'm actually right at that part of the game 8D Does it matter if the person who has the Dawn Shard equipped is one of the three fighters?
Cocohints
12-05-2007, 04:26 PM
Well, if you don't espect to use all 6 inside, I'd let the "weakest" member be equiped with the Dawn Shard, then just use him/her as a leader before you activate the switch.
And yeah, it does take a while sometimes to level up... I end up spending hours by just doing that, but it is also my safety to survive. The EXP will raise is you have less people in the team, or just go alone. Whenever you can buy something like a Golden Amulet, I'd buy one for everyone since it will double your licence points, which proves to be useful. :3 Later on there's a thing you can buy to double EXP earned as well.
HOSPITAL, STAT!
12-05-2007, 06:10 PM
Yeah, I've got a member equipped with the Golden Amulet, but have yet to get others. Which brings me on to another subject, money >_> I seem to be scraping on the floor for every penny, lol. D: FF8 WAS THE BEST, MONEY PRACTICALLY FELL FROM THE SKY.
Cocohints
12-05-2007, 09:27 PM
Yeah, money.... Everything that you can carry you keep, everything else you sell with no mercy. :x There is no need to use chocobos for rent, you get more rewards by walking. Geez, what I wouldn't do to have a money tree in the game..
