You think those are bad? Try reading "Paradise Lost" by John Milton.

It's 12 books of pure Hell. Literally. It's all about the fall of Adam and Eve with Satan as the anti-hero. Yeah, we get to see him turn from fallen angel to evil serpent. He has sex with his daughter, Sin who bore their son, Death. Once you read their descriptions, you will probably believe even the scariest creature is Adonis. :xp:

Despite it being a long and tedious read, it's all poetry. Yeah, a 12 volumes thick piece of poetry.

Once you read the entire thing once, you will NEVER want to read it again. Seriously.

But if you need a book that'll help you fall asleep, read it. You'll be exhausted from boredom and trying to figure out what the heck is going on. :dead:

I actully liked "The Borrowers" When I was little lol. I loved the names.
And I actully like most of the books we read at school. It's poetry that annoys me. If I have to read "The Tyger" on more time I swear I will go insane and take everyone here with me!!!

Soz, but I had to write an essay on it two years after having to recite it word for word infront of my Headteacher. I hate that poem with an undying loathing...

Yeah, I really liked The Borrowers. I even have the movie and watched it not long ago XD Classic.

I generally always wind up hating the books I'm assigned to read because, well, I just plain hate being forced to a read a book. Though I will point out a couple which I actually took the pleasure of reading - which is saying a lot. Those books were "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Fiela's Child".

Great Expectation. Worst book I have ever read.
OH MY GOSH. WORD UP.

Uruuurgh, I didn't even FINISH it was I bored off my ass. Same goes for the movie.

A Seperate Peace and The Pigman... Ugh! Next, I'm supposed to read Gathering Blue, woop de freakin doo! Seperate Peace was all about two friends and one literally causes the other friends death! And the Pigman is about some old guy dying because of depression caused by two teenagers! And Gathering Blue... I have no clue. But the Seperate Peace movie was so boring, I almost fell asleep! And then I had to write a paper about the similarities between the book and the movie, ugh! And I missed a day of the movie so... ugh!

The Pigman

The Pigman really wasn't that bag. I felt kind of bad for ol' Pignati. D':

"The Giver" by Louis Lowrey (sp?). She writes good books most of the time, but this one was messed up.

I enjoyed that one, too. It was really interesting.

So far I'd have to say either 'The Golden Goblet' or 'The Old Man and the Sea' (which is what we're reading now.) 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle' was pretty bad too. The Golden Goblet was epicly boring because he didn't do anything for a huge majority of the book. Old Man and the Sea because the whole thing is literally him being pulled by a fish. And. that. is. it.

Reading Charlotte Doyle was like slow suicide.

Well,to me,the book that made me go to sleep LOTS of times was "The Pearl" by the writer who writes "Of Mice and Men".Everyone in my class was expecting something related to Captain Jack Sparrow or something...Huge mistake!! X[

It's about a guy name Kino, his wife Juana, and his son Coyotito(Who would name his son that?).Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion and survives, but everyone thought that he was going to die. Kino goes to the sea and finds a pearl and in a weird, messed up way, shoots Coyotito. O.o Everyone was speechless after that.

Great Expectation. Worst book I have ever read.
It was okay. I liked the way Miss Havisham was described as skeleton. Lol, see my attachment, I made a list of the characters and gave each of them a sprite.(Download and change the extention to doc) You will lol at the one I gave Miss Havisham, as well as Estella. All in all, it was a good book, but alot of it was kinda boring.
Of Mice And Men sucked. Puppies died, racism occured, and some dude had to kill his best friend.
Heh, that was the best book that I've had to read for school, mainly because it's the shortest. lol.

My worst book was Steve and Me. It had some funny moments(EG: The time when Steve caught an emu, and the time when he ran down the maternity ward proclaiming, "I've got a baby girl!") and the little stories about their adventures in the bush were cool, but the rest was kinda boring. It's like one of thoses video games that you really hate, but you can't stop playing it. I was just waiting for something funny to happen. I really hated it when Stev died(duh) and the fact that at some point Terri flashed back to before she met Steve, and I got really confused. So, yeah.

Of Mice and Men. Worst book I have ever read. It was boring, even though it was only a hundred or so pages long. *Spoilers* It was stupid; some guys go to this ranch to get jobs, dream of having their own land and one of them, George, doesn't even want the land. He's just saying it to cheer up Lennie, the other character. In the end, Lennie kills this one guy's wife because he touched her hair and didn't want to let go after he killed his own puppy just by petting it. After that, he gets shot by his own friend, George. *End of Spoilers* It was ridiculous. We have to watch the flippin' movie next class. Hopefully that will be better than the book. :sideways:

"The Day No Pigs Would Die" Not only did the first chapter include a very visual scene that will probably scar me for life, but the book itself was just babbling, to me. It just went on and on and on about all of these different topics. *spoilers* One second you're hearing about the pig, then about some lady with hired help, then a guy digging up a grave, and then the father dying.*//spoilers* It may be just me, but I don't think any of the things already listed had any relation at all. It just seemed like someone was going through their childhood story while sitting in a retirement home. You know, a grandpa rambling about different aspects that really don't relate...

A terrible one would have to be "Surviving Hitler". It wasn't a bad book, but it was depressing throughout the entire ordeal. He was only twelve when he went into a camp, and he survived until he was nineteen. He tried to survive to see his brother, his mother, and father one more time, but none of his family from eighty people survived. Here is the quote that got to me the most.
"If I had known that this was to be after the war, why had I tried so hard to make it?"
It's just a sad book, but great. I would've read it daily, but it was terrible that we had to read it as a class, that gave no emotion. I don't know what I'm talking about anymore, I just like to type.

"Donña Barbara" it's the worst,it was so boring and horrible that I didn't even finished reading it and just looked for the review on the web.

If my memory doesn't fail me,it was about a woman named "Barbara who was a total whore or something.

tell me about it.....that was so...irritating...i had to get it from the web too.

another bad book was "la llamarada"......i realized i was slowly dying from reading it, so i skipped it all...and looked in the web to get a review.

Brave New World - I'm surprised that we were made to read this at a Christian school. It's, uh, how should I put this. Oh, I know, disgusting. Let's just say that the men and women did things that they should do after marriage all the time. It was a law that you had to do it. That's what the book was about...just that. It was a disgusting, disturbing book and I almost burned the school's copy.

Cry, The Beloved Country - I could barely understand what was going on in the book. You never knew who was speaking, and it was just confusing.

A Seperate Peace - God, I hated that book. It was boring, and it was just plain stupid. What happened was stupid, and I hated every second of the book.

OKay, recently i had to read a book for class. If my final grade didn't depend on me reading this stupid book, i wouldn't have read it. The book i am talking about is the so-called "classic" The Scarlet Letter.

Honestly it was boring to me. I didn't like the characters or the writting of it. I know it was written a long time ago, but i can't find how great the book is. My teacher also told us that the movie didn't follow the book, so there went plan A.

i give the book a D-.

Out of curiousity, did your teacher assign a DBQ for the novel?

Anyway, my teacher assigned this book about 2 weeks ago and we jsut finished it. I actaully sorta enjoyed it. The beginning was painful to get through, but once you start getting to into the whole Dimmesdale vs Chillingworth(favorite character btw) plot, I actaully couldn't stop reading. Without spoiling anything I loved how the book ended, and what each main character received at the end.

I'd give it a B+

It wasn't my favorite book I've ever read, I'll admit that. But then again it wasn't the worst book I've ever read.

Stowaway. When I read what the book was about, I thought it would be awesome. When I actually read it: it made me fall asleep, didn't make much sense, no decent descriptions about the characters, and the storyline pretty much fell apart halfway through the book.

Through out all of my schooling, there were only a few books that I actually didn't enjoy, but only one that I remember. That one is "The Great Gatsby." That is, however, not to say that it is a bad book, if it wasn't, it wouldn't be remembered today. I just didn't like it.

"The Giver" by Louis Lowrey (sp?). She writes good books most of the time, but this one was messed up.

aww i liked that one... it was pretty different and took a lot of thought to analyze and figure out... which is fun for me, but to each his own! :D

I say for me it's "Of Mice and Men". One of the main characters remind me too much of my brother. I couldn't even finish reading it, it was so upsetting what happened.

I agree the book is difficult to get into but in my opinion it's an absolute beauty ~

...although you have to have a decent concentration span xD

I will probably get killed for saying this, but... Romeo and Julliet x: I know technically its a play and not a novel as such, but we had to read it for class and its... awful to me xD

:dead:

Really? I found it actually rather enjoyable. After the first page or two, I felt the language was much easier to follow, and I think Satan's point of view was very interesting. One almost pities him in the beginning.

Anyway, worst book I've ever had the displeasure of reading was The Red Badge of Courage. I'm not saying the writing was bad, I was just so uninterested in the material. The symbolism kept me slightly encouraged throughout the tedious task of reading it.

I know there's a lot of fans of his stories, but Edgar Allen Poe books really creep me out. I mean most of his stories are about physco guys and then we had to watch the Pit and the Pendulam movie after reading the book in my seventh grade class... I mean it wasn't all that scary, just kind of disturbing....

I really like his stories. ;^; But they are creepy. >.>

Worst book for assigment would have to be...Tuck Everlasting. It was weird and I didn't like the movie either.

I loved the Lord of the Flies. >:

But my least favorite book I've had to read as an assignment would either have to be The Slave Dancer or The Catcher in the Rye. The former because I was just in fifth grade and it was twisted and it sucked, and the latter because... That book was boring. >>

EDIT:
ALSO
ANIMAL FARM
ANIMAL FARM ANIMAL FARM ANIMAL FARM.

Last year I had to read a book called A Seperate Peace. It's about some all boys' boarding school during WWII, and my god, as if the setting wasn't sexually frustrated enough, there had to be such strong homo-undertones that I couldn't help but hope that the two main characters would end up together. But all they did was play sports and stuff.

For History this year we had to read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich which was really slow and dull so I didn't read all of it. That's the first time I just didn't read a school book, so that gets a spot too. I did like the ending though (sparknotes!).

I read that. I liked it. It's weird, but whenever my classmates have to read something, they end up hating it. I probably have a better imagination or something.

I have that book...It was hard for me to even read a page...<.<
I don't think I ever had a book that I didn't like and I read it. Cause for all of the assignments where you choose the book, I hadn't choosen a bad one yet. As for the books the teacher assign you, I haven't read one that I hated.

But The Giver....
That was one Odd book..
I had to read that in 7th grade.

I couldn't wait until the book ended and when the book did end. It was like...WTF? Did they just go into a circle or somethin?

I was only forced to read one book in my entire time during school.
The Hiding Place.
Lovely writing, powerful stuff, but just not my cup of tea. I was bored for the most part, and when I'm bored I read slower which makes me even more bored. It was filled with a lot of extra details that I really couldn't connect with what it had to do with the main point of the story.
My sisters find me weird for not liking it, I guess I'm more of a fictional person.

The worst class assignment book I ever read was "Freak the Mighty" by Rodman Philbrick x_x.. We spent two months of English class in grade 9 reading it and doing huge essays about it.. That book was so boring, we had to watch the movie about it after we were done reading and I didn't even like it that much =P.. Maybe I didn't like this novel though because I'm a sci-fi freak and this was more of a story that could actually happen in real life >.>.. Anyways it was hard to read because I wanted to sleep; I had to read it though since I wanted a good mark on the assignment XD

Heh.

I'm doing a group guided reading lesson with a few students in my field study school using this book. We just finished Frindle, and I usually let them pick what they want to read as a group next, and this was it.

I have to say Brave New World, that wasn't one of my favorites sure, it was lengthy and it told a story but I don't know, I just didn't like it. It didn't interest me despite the issue the author was conveying/predicting (or as so explained in my English class) but eithier way, I just didn't like it. It was messed up (imo) in some ways. I mean I liked some of the symbolism and the fact it had John read Shakespeare but honestly I could careless and skipped this book and read 1984 instead. :(

We had to read the Lightening Thief sixth AND seventh grade.. Some people liked it, but it really wasn't my type of book; it reminded me too much of Harry Potter and the writing was quite simplistic for "advanced reading". And, I mean, twice. xP

1984.

The story was interesting but at the same time it got boring after a long while of reading and I was just too tired to continue reading each paragraph so I skimmed the rest of the book.
