I'd like to know...what makes you left or right handed when you write? And secondly...if you are one of them, most likely, why can't you use the other when you write? My friends told me it had to do something with your brain...but I'd like to know people's opinions.

i believe one side of the brain is bigger than the other. the bigger side is ur dominant hand. i'm right handed but i can sort of write with my left hand becuz i kinda practiced. and did u know that some ppl are ambidextrous? which means they can use both hands equally as well!

Yeah, I've heard of them. My friend is ambidextrous. But my other friend practiced...so...I don't know.

I think it comes from either side of your parents. And bigger part of your brains...I dunno. It's probably random. And I'm a righty.

I'm both. Though, the majoriy of the time, I use the righty.

I think that the hand you use, let's say right, means that the right half of your brain is the dominate part that you use.

Yeah, I'm the same as Hissora . But I always thought that the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body and vice versa? Is that what you guys are talking about?

I'm Right-handed.

The reason I can't use my left hand very well for writing is because...for some reason...I feel a sort of "hollowness" when trying to. My left hand is a lot better than my right hand in handling many things. Like opening coke cans, or bottles, for example. xD

Am I the first lefty to post here? Sweet.

Here's what I've learned about lateralization in psychology:

If you are a lefty: mental imagery, musical and artistic abilities, and the ability to perceive and understand spatial relationships are your strengths (brain's right hemisphere functions) We prone to negative emotions such as sadness and anger because that is an activity of the right hemisphere

If you are a righty: (90% of people are) you prodominantly use the left side of the brain which is associated with mathematical and logical abilities, and is extremely strong in the languages. Emotions associated with optimism are located in the left hemisphere

Sorry this sounding like a lecture, but bottom line I guess is the hand you use is usually associated with a greater strength in certain abilities within one hemisphere or the other.

Coolio! I agree with you but why do we use our left hand for most things and when it comes to writing we can't use it?

I am very much right handed, but the most artistic person I know is left handed. This totally fits with what In_the_Twilight posted. I'm more science and logic.

Same here... and I'm also prone to feelings too... o.0 freaky!

But I'm a righty, I'm supposed to be optimistic!

Do you think you could type with proper grammar and such, please? This is the intelligent discussion thread.

And please don't get off-topic, either; this is about you as an individual.

im right handed i heard that most left handed ppl started out as twins but on twin failed to develop and therefore there was only ever one baby and if you think about it most identical twins one is right handed and one is left handed (or so i am told)

EvilMan_89
01-13-2007, 04:22 AM
no, the twin thing isn't true. i heard that it's kind of random. but i read in a book that right handed people have superior limits to left handed ppl. kinda wierd that a book would write this and provide no backup info.

Hm. That's interesting. A friend of mine is left-handed and she draws brilliantly.

One of my teachers always jokes about how people are in their right mind if they're left-handed... It's really not that funny, though...

im right handed... apparently people who are left handed have learned to rely on the right side of their brain, whereas people who are right handed rely on their left side of the brain and so on and so forth.

im not saying right handers dont use the right hand side of the brain, im just saying we prefer using functions on the left... am i making any sense to you?

i dont believe how handed you are has anything to do with skill. But if i could use both hadnds. that would rock

Uhh.. I don't think it has anything to do with your brain. I personally think people find it hard to write with another hand simply because they are not used to using it :| I'm right handed, and I write like a 2-year-old when I use my left hand. I also think, since you are used to a certain hand all your life, it is stronger than the other hand because you use it a lot. Comprende? :p

I think that if you are left handed then you use your right side of the brain more, and if you are right handed then you use you left side more. I can't really explain it. I can write with both hands, my left more than my right. It's weird, but good question. ^_^
