Ridiculous. What a completely ridiculous law.

Amazing how they'd do this over past criminal act and a third strike law.
What the hell has our government come to. LOL

The 3-strike law is a load of bull. When it comes to jail sentences, they should consider quality over quantity instead of the other way around. Now this man is going to rot away just for taking donuts? What the hell? It's a half a dollar pack of donuts, for Pete's sake.

Well, if it's true that he's been committing several other unlawful acts "recently" and has been simply overlooked all those times, he should be punished in some way this time--although by that I'm thinking more community service.
77 years is just lol.

77 Years...someone just give the store 50 cents or whatever. wow. It does seem the guy was doing other petty crimes though and was caught and let off with misdemeanors which are slaps on the wrist, before he decided to do this, but yeah, this seems very extreme. We have rapists and killers that get out before 20 years. I really do think we need to start analyzing the law a bit more sometimes. I see why the DA is pushing for some kind of punishment here, because it's obvious the guy is stealing and getting caught, but at the same time, 77 years ...I'd say if he's got a few charges that were dropped etc, maybe a few months in jail would teach him to stop. Just wow though.

Okay, there is something very wrong with picture. The United States locks away a guy who stole a pack of donuts for 77 years whereas rapists/pedophiles get locked away for like 20.
...something is wrong with this system.

Couldn't they have asked him to just pay the 50 cents? Oo;
I mean it would be easier than bothering with court dates and all that jazz.

So what a guy can rape someone and then murder someone else and won't be in jail? But if they happen to steal a pie that's when they take action?
I'm sorry but they should stop and sentence someone after the first offense not just after three. It's like going. It's ok to murder 2 people but when it gets to 3, no.

Ridiculous. What a completely ridiculous law.
What's more ridiculous is the insanely low price of those donuts.
WOW. Didn't know they were that cheap anymore!
No, I JK...
But really, what is up with that. I can't even really believe it's for realz.
Sucks for the poor guy. Imagine, you can get less time for rape/murder than you would for stealing .50 cents worth of donuts. Welcome to America guys... ;_;

My issue with this is that the guy apparently did two other things that were far worse and got off with a slap on the wrist...and now for a pack of donuts he gets it. It seems like people just wanted to put this guy away for the other two things and did not. California needs to look over its laws again. This is not the same policy in all states and we can now see why. Very lame.

Yeah, it's stupid, but if you think about it....America has an obesity problem. Don't you think they should punish the guy for the donuts? [/sarcasm]
77 years.....U.S., that was an EPIC fail.

Wow . Then those must've some great donuts to get 77 years in jail ! O.O I'd get it if it were someting more serious like rape or murder but not stealing a .50 pack of dounuts .

That's so stupid is isn't even funny.
They said that when the law was voted on, the people were thinking "Felony" rather than 50 cents. You can get coins that equal that amount.
Epic fail in it's finest.

The guy has stolen before, but still 77 years is a little harsh. There's some other dude who murdered 2 kids and got jail for 20 years. So, basically, he would've been in jail for less years if he killed someone.
"What're you in jail for?"
"Well, I-uh-stole a donut..."

This has got to be the most ridicules thing I've ever heard. Our legal system needs some serious adjustments. They say the man committed 2 offences in the past and I bet they were probably worse than this. That's why I think they should have put him jail for a reasonable amount of time for his 1st offense instead of pardoning them.

Every government has problems.
But the U.S. has the most.
What a load of bullshit. Locking up a man for stealing ****ing donuts for .50 damn cents. FOR 77 YEARS. That is ABSURD.

WTH?! What kind of a law is that! 77 years in prison just for 50 cent donuts? What is this world becoming of now?

Woah no offence but i never thought the American government can go that low to send a man to 77 in prison for donuts, There have been people who steal cars and that and they get less time. Also on the other hand.. why was he so desperate for the donuts, I mean it's 50c
I want to know how they add up to 77 years. I know one guy managed to get around 1.000 years for loads of child pron... But I really do not think that this guy should get 77 years. Everyone agrees the doughnuts are not worth it. (We will overcharge them, they are 7 years.) If he did things that warrent 45 years in prision, then I think he should be in prison serving the 45 years, rather than being allowed out to commit another 45 year crime, then allowed out again, but have the book thrown at his when he puts a toe out of line.
Edit: Holy crud. I just realised, that is two sentences. Better fix that!
