Ok, so people go back in time and does some things, is it really changing the timeline?

Theory 1) A time traveling person is open to the option of change the universe freely.

Theory 2) Our fates are set, even with time travel, it's impossible to change the past.

Which one's right and why?

EvilMan_89
01-18-2007, 01:08 AM
number 2, i think. i think that cuz wat happens as that person is in the past? is the present just staying still? i don't think so. i think that things done during a time travel wont' affect the present

Camel

i thought you could just pee in a bucket and then wait till winter for it to freeze then you would put the bucket on your head then say where you want to go then lick the frozen pee.

Roxas

Well, no to both of your theories.

We can't even go back in time.

whale dog
01-18-2007, 11:46 AM
actually we can. and i did it this way. trust me guys it works. and if u feel like it go ahead and send me a video of u doing this so i can post it everywhere and laugh at you. yay.

Roxas

Seriously whaledog? Does peeing in a bucket really work?

Camel
01-18-2007, 11:49 AM
Yes it does.... but if you don't like the sour taste of pee you can flavor it to be red flavor, blue flavor and even purple flavor.....

Camel didn't actually break any rules. He's saying his outlandish theory on two already outlandish theories.

On-topic:

I think that time travel will always be impossible. How can we possibly go back in time? Time is unchangable and always moving forward. If we were allowed to go back in time, why haven't people come from the future and told us they've come through time? Answer me that.

sweqsora222

you're mean.all i said was pee is a little...

anyway,i would like to time travel.

Budabuda

I think you can change the past to change the future, but since you come from a different future, so u may ceice to exist, that or ur timeline is different than the one u are altering so that even if you do change the future the future u come from will remain the same

I'll have to say both becuase you may want to go back in time just to see something happen and not do anything with anyone or thing like your not there but you could go and see your mum and dad befor you was born, if I did that I'd be like 'Hey mum, dad I'm you kid your going to have on (date) oh and by the way don't call me (name) call me (name) okay' then go back to my time

Time travel is impossible. Our future has already been decided. You can't change the past since it has already happened. Even with time travel, nothing would happen...either that, or you would destroy the space-time continuum.

We're not mean, we're just smart children.

Also, Ex is right - our futures have been decided.

Darkwatch

Theory 2, obviously.

No matter what, you can't forsee the future, and your future is set, and just thinking that you can change it was meant to be destiny.

At least, that's what I believe.

Cin

Guys, most of this thread was complete spam. Seriously, let's get the ball rolling and make it truly intel, kay?>.>

There is a theory that there is an infinate number of realities, an endless number of different realities that are different by the minutest detail. It is said that when one time travels, they are simply stepping into another window. By changing the past of 1 dimension you won't be able to change your own, being that they are both seperate. However by going back in time, or forward, you've meesed with the timespace continum. Because time will ahve passed in your window, you;ll never be able to return, making there be 2 of you somewhere and none of you in another place. This inproper balance may or may not make the whole system collapse trying to fill the void. Therefore, going back in time would kill us all.

And time travel will never be possible, even if it is according to the theory stated above your past present and future is set, if it were any other way then we'd all be dead.

Gamefreak103
01-19-2007, 02:06 AM
Time travel, the only way I can explain is going forward.
I heard about a theory if you go as fast as light, time around you accelerates.
That means your traveling to the future.
Only problem: How to move as fast as light!

I would choose option 2, i don't think anything can change once its been done.

PS: Don't trust my knowledge, I could be saying nonsense.

Darkwatch
01-19-2007, 02:29 AM
Time travel is possible, Cin.

If you travel fast enough from point A to point B, you can look back, and if you can see that far (would be so far no telescope could see) the you'd be able to see your early child hood.

If you don't believe me, ask a physic's researcher or teacher. It has a lot to do with Sound.

But, you CAN break the space-time continum. Theoretically, if we could travel fast enough through the sun, at a speed that is fueled by, probably atomic energy, then you could open up a worm hole and zip through into another dimension.

Btw, I haven't studied that particular subject in a while, so I might have lots of holes/gaps in my statements. But you get the basic idea.

yeah what the hell do you mean by going too far into the future to end up in the past

what the hell

sweqsora222
01-20-2007, 01:26 AM
yeah, how can you go to the future but,at the same time,go into the past.

i'm confused.

but it could mean that if you go to far,you will break the timeline and go into the past.

Cin
01-20-2007, 01:28 AM
He could mean that the past repeates itself and by going into the future you will find a deja vu sort of scenario...:/

No one gets it because it's a ridiculously awful theory.

Anyway, yeah, I discard your theories of future and past and replace them with my own.:/

history is boring i fall asleep in that class every day no one wants to go back in history unless they wanted to go pee on someone they didnt like... like i would pee on bill clinton because i dont like him but i dont need to go back in time to do that since hes still alive so you see time travel is dumb

sorry im new to this site and im just looking around

Cin
01-20-2007, 02:04 AM
See? I knew that's what he was talking about...^_^

And I guess that it is possible to go back in time medaforically speaking.

Like those mile long ice tubes they have in antartica that shows the ice millions of years ago. technically you're looking at ice that hasn't seen the light of day for millions of years.

And Atticus, this is Intelligent discussion, try to keep it intel, peeing on people doesn't count...XD

Its okay for me to insult Camel, we've been friends since 4th grade.

Cin
01-20-2007, 02:26 AM
Eh, friends or no, flaming is flaming, and not tolerated.

And anyone, no matter how stupid, as long as they put every effort and fiber of their little brains into writing these posts, they can post here.

But as of right now, we ARE getting off topic.

Anyway, people say time is liek ariver, flowing swiftly and sure in 1 direction, but they are wrong, time is like and ocean in a storm.

(Zomg PoP)

And it's true, with time travel and stuff, time does seem completely shredded.

Atticus
01-20-2007, 02:31 AM
ive read books that say time travel is metaphoricly possible if you were to alter the placement of a black hole enough with an object that is big enough for a black hole to be pulled into the gravitational pull, then when the placement is changed, it would go into another time period, there would just be no way for you to control where you end up.

Darkwatch
01-20-2007, 03:31 AM

- keep your grammar, spelling and punctuation as perfect as possible. This is intel, we have to understand you. That means u s i n g s p a c e s i n b e t w e e n y o u r p e r i o d s a n d b e g i n n i n g o f s e n t e n c e s .

Anyway, it's impossible to go so far into the future you end up in the past. That's like saying if I go into the future time ends and it starts over again.

If you pay attention, the only way to time travel is IN space itself. Moving at the speed of light through our galaxy, the Milky Way, to, let's say, Mars....we can actually pass through time faster than normal. In some cases, even slower.

Budabuda
01-22-2007, 11:27 AM
Not true at all, if you go far enough in the future, u will not be in the past, just the galaxy restarting. And it is posible to time travel while still on earth, but,. as i have discovered, the repercausions are incredible

If we time traveled in the past we would know it would happen before be time travel.Becouse it already happened.

06-23-2007, 03:43 PM
Time travel was proved to be impossible BUT because time is relative it can be made to seem as if you've travelled in time. For example, in the approach to a black hole times starts to slow down. To an observer, you would be falling into the black hole forever, but to you the rate of time would be normal.

Time itself is the fourth dimension after all, so I suppose if you can travel through the first 3 (i.e. 3D space) then you could travel through time. Lol, there is so much more that could be said but I can't be bothered and I can't remember it anyway ;D

Can you not bump an old thread?

White_Rook
06-23-2007, 11:24 PM
On some forums it's frowned upon and on others no one cares. I have no idea how people feel about it, but if it dies I think it best the thread stay dead.

IcyKitty
06-24-2007, 12:36 AM
personally i cant see how you can go back to what already happened xD; no machine can possibly bend the entire universe to go back in time.

[insert "time is an illusion" speech]

time travel would be nice to have o.o if you kill some1 while in the "past" that person would vanish off the face of the earth in the "present" since in the "past" he was killed o.o possibly.

about bumping: you can after the thread has been dead for 12 hours i believe.

You can't change the past. It might brake existence. And that's bad.

If you killed your grandmother in her crib, you wouldn't exist. If you didn't exist, there'd be no one to kill your grandmother. But, if your grandmother exists, you would go back and kill her... ad infinitum.

Here's a theory that sounds logically: Time is set in stone. It's kinda hard to get it into words. Um... I'll let someone else try this...

Ah yes the Grandparent paradox, going back in time and killing your grandparent, destroying your line stopping you from existing. But you would then no longer exist to go back in time to kill said person, therefore they wouldn't die so you would exist.

Also, technically anything that has been changed in the past by somone in the future has already been done as it is already part of the past. And anyway, changing things in the past is far too unpredictable, there would be no way of telling what the consequences would be of preventing something from happening or causing something else to happen.

I think I choose number 2

Even if we Time Travel,we still cannot change the order of things. We might only be able to see our past selves but not change whatever we are doing. Our past selves might only see us as spirits from the future. What's done is done and we choose our destiny.

i say its a bad idea. for example. pablo escobar... he started the drug trifficking in the world. people might say, 'without him, life would be good. no drug exporting.'
but.... where would the world really be today? also... there is a thory.... i dont believe it but..... people say that if you went back and killed hitler or whatever, soomeone would replace him. its fate. i dunno. i am against it.
