*don't kill me if there is a thread like this already (i did look and I didn't see one)*
What is you feeling about obsessions? are the necessary, or do they just cause problems in life, or are they both. I bet there are at least a few people on here who are obsessed with, kh, video games, or just general anime stuff. Do you think that having an obsession is a good thing? People can be obsessed with all kinds of things like school, friends, boys, girls, kh, anime, dogs, cats, plants, well almost anything you can think of! But is it really bad?

Personally I think it is good to have an obsession but it can be bad. Like I tend to get obsessed with one thing for about a month and then find something else to get hooked on (but I will always love kh!). And I think its really healthy because then I have something that gives me joy every day and helps me relax at the end of the day(but shouldn't life and my family do the same thing @_@). It can be bad if someone refuses to do anything else but just focus on their obsession. But sometimes you just need alone time or to hang out with other people who share your obsession and can relate you... ACK! it soo confusing @_@ soo what do ya think? good or bad?

Obsessions are awesome because they describe you and it's basically a hobby. My obsession right now is Organization XIII, and it describes me a bit because I love angst and stories where people are shunned by society. It basically has to deal with my real life situations aswell, but thats for me to know and you never to find out.

Hm... I agree that they can be good or bad, both depending on what they are a nd how much of it you're doing.

They can be good, if it's something like... Oh, lets say Baseball. Then you'll join teams, meet new people, and be off doing things other than smoking pot.

They can be bad if you will only do what you're obsessed with and nothing else.

I guess obsessions can be bad or good, depending on the thing you are obsessed with. Like I'm obsessed with Organization XIII and Sephiroth. And it depends on how you react to the obsession. Like I could be called a rabid Sephiroth fan girl. So that is what I think of obsessions.

Any obsession is a bad thing. It's important for humans to have a balanced lifestyle and devoting to much time and energy to 1 thing will cause the others to lower.

Sure, some things may be OKAY, like being obbsessed with girls. That's fine as long as it's not messing with your life. I mean, if you miss your Mom's birthday for a chance to peek in the girl's locker room...THAT'S BAD!!!

Obsessions are okay to a certain extent. If you get TOO obssesed, that's when it's bad.

Not all obsessions are good.

Obsessions like sex or biting your nails (which is more like a habbit, but oh well) are the kind that we look down upon. >.>

Other ones like sports, aren't so bad.

Depends on your point of view

I'm obsessed with KH and all it has brought me are new friendships.

Cin

In my opinion, something good, like Roxas's obsession can be bad.

Like Roxas, ever since you made these new friendships, what's happened to the old?

im w/ roxas KH brought me to youtube which brought me to here which brought me to new friensds that who showed me alot of things about the internet my old friendships are fine in fact what happens on the internet has helped to make me a better person irl
obsessions like that good

however other obsesions like obsessive compulive or destructive obsesions r bad very bad

Roxas
01-21-2007, 04:04 AM
Well, Cin. Nothing.

If, by what you're saying, you mean IRL.

Atticus

i will tell you what happened to Roxas's old friendships: he pretty much ended up annoying me so much with all his kingdom hearts talk where it got to the point that i was continuously yelling at him to shut up because i honestly dont care that much.

about obsessions, i think they are bad, because they seem unhealthy.

Cin

XD Thanks Atticus, you proved my point a bit...

In conclusion, with every action comes an equal and opposite reaction. By obsessing over 1 thing you are taking away from time you could be spending on others. Obsessions are okay to a certain degree, but they shouldn't eat away at your life.

Actually, all the bits and bobs Atticus are saying aren't true. It's happened about 3 times.

Atticus
01-21-2007, 04:32 PM
well, it was more than three, but i guess it wasnt really constant. it was annoying though. and when i saw how worked up he was because his parents kicked him off the ps2 for one night i sort of thought he was pretty pathetic actually... unless he was joking. i couldnt really tell since we were talking on AIM.

Roxas
01-21-2007, 04:40 PM
Yeah I didn't really care.

I was actually kinda glad because I was on the computer, talking to my friends again xD.

Cin

Yes, well Roxas, you may have gained new frienships from your obbsessions but what about Boris?

That's something that I think we all can agree was NOT a good thing.

I've noticed that alot of people in this discussions, tend to sit on the fence, come on people take a side.

For me obsessions are bad, in the end they cause more harm then good, it makes you end up with a one track mind.

Here is an example, in the anime Death Note, Light uses the death note to create a better crime free world, but this obsession with it made him go a bit mad and end up doing things he wouldn't normally do to obtain that dream. Ok sure it won't go as far as that, but still.

Or Like Docter Cid from FF12. He was obbsessed with nethicite. And through hsi obsession he helped all of Archadia. Some may say his obsession was good, yet it did lead him to become a crazy madman who wanted to destroyt eh world just to see what would happen...>.<

*sweatdrop*

Not exactly the idea I would have used, Cin.

Well, personally, it depends on what you're obsessing on. If you're like obsessed with porn *makes a disgusted face*, then that's not really a good thing.

But if you're obsessed with Shakesphere's work, then that's not too bad...unless you actually try to make the events that happen in play to happen in real life.

Both,depends on the obsession.
If its about children and your like 40-70(Michael Jackson)
then no,not good.
I its about stuff like books, games, food ect. its ok,still not very healthy...
But it also depends in whos eyes....
Someone might say candy is poisen.
Someone else who loves candy will disagree....
So what it comes down to is in the person who is obsessed with the thing.

i dont think obsesions are bad, like if ur obsessed with sex that doesnt make u a creep.............................right?

Cin
01-22-2007, 06:51 PM
To be honest. I do beleive that all obbsessions are bad. But I also don't beleive in descriptions in general, and am therefore contradicting myself.XD

No it makes you a ****.

Whether or not the obssesion is something like stamps or a certain book, it leads to a one tracked mind, and affects everything else, like World of Warcraft, a highly obsseive game, a few friends of mine are addicted to it, one we rarly see anymore and one of the others is well, lets say he is a grade A student, now his mind is most of the time set on WoW, and his grades are slipping because of it.

can a guy be a ****? And what if you are obsessed with turning homework in on time, is that such a bad thing?

DarknessKingdom
01-24-2007, 01:18 PM
Not really, I think. Unless you never actually relax and spend all of your spare time just doing assignments/homework/preparing for future exams.

Don't get me wrong. Once you get to your final year of school, it really should be the one for study but you need to rest and relax as well...so in a way, what I just said, dosent make any sense. *sweatdrop*

The point is, if your obsession is on homework, that isn't too bad unless you're constantly thinking about it and doing it 24/7.

well yeah. but come on

Obsessions = BAD
Now I realize that no matter what it is...it's bad. Man...I just HAD to contradict myself. But...yea.

I think obsessions are okay...as long as they don't get too out of hand.

DarknessKingdom
01-25-2007, 05:03 AM
I assume when you mean 'out of hand', you mean, a threat to someone's life?

If all obsessions are bad, then why are you here?
*Roxas*?
Darkandroid?
Cin?
Atticus?
Some are kind of bad, indeed, but, to a certain extent, are tolerable and not in any way shape or form harmful.
What's harmful is how an obsession can encompass and eventually swallow your peronal life.
What's harmful is what the feelings accompanying the obsession can do to you.
Take my best friend, (name edited for privacy).
We'll call him...Lindsey.
Now, Lindsey used to sort of like WoW.
By week 2, Lindsey hardly came out of his room.
By the end of month 1, Lindsey was a hermit.
By the end of month 2, Lindsey's vision had decreased by 50 percent. He needed glasses 1/4 of an inch thick.
And by the release of Burning Crusade, he was playing WoW while he was camped out. H e had a special router installed to his car just to play WoW for 10 an extra minutes while going to school.
Now, it is days at a time before I see him outside.
He was a straight A student, and he sunk to C's.
My point is, it's not the obsession. It's if you let it get out of hand what it makes YOU do. That's my analysis of it.
Oh yeah, P.S. his girlfriend dumped him and he put on 30 pounds in 3 months. So, yeah. And I'm a straight A student. The were only four, and now there's two. Because my OTHER friend got involved in ToonTown. But that's a story for later....
