I apologize if there's already a thread for this, but I couldn't find it anywhere in this section. Does anyone here write creatively? It's one of my favorite activities to do, and I try to do it when I'm not busy. I used to write fanfiction but now I focus more on original material. I also hope to one day publish something, and I've read lots of books and articles on how to improve my writing skills. Anyone else do the same?

well there isn't really a section about creative writing, i mean there is the Original Works section, the Creativity Corner, and a Writer's family in the forum famlies. There are loads of people here that like to express themselves creatively. So Welcome.

Yeah, I love creative writing! I write a lot of poetry, and some short stories. I haven't done any for a while, however. Too busy at school... It saps your creativity. =.=

You'll get there someday. My school just happened to have a contest going on and I won so they're publishing it. Then a few other publishers checked out my work and offered to help me get some more things out there to the world for profit =]. It just happened. Just get your stuff out there, you can do it ^^.

I love creative writing, I mostly do that everyday when ever I get back from somewhere. I also get details from other writers in this website and from books. I sometimes read the dictionary for words.

I love to write. I actually have one fanfiction on the site right now, and hope to do another in the future once the current one's finished. But yes, writing is fun, isn't it? One of my favorite past times. I've thought of becoming a writer once, but I only really write Kingdom Hearts related stuff, so I'd kinda be at a bad end on that career. Heh.

I love writing! I mostly write short stories & poetry but if I get inspired enough to write something longer, I'll go for it (but usually end up trashing the idea around the 2nd to 4th chapter). =P Hopefully, I'll be taking a creative writing class next school year.

Is fanfic considered creative writing?

Is fanfic considered creative writing?

I think it depends on who you ask. Some people will say yes, others will say no. It's all a matter of perspective and personal opinion. I would consider it creative, if only because there are actually quite a few creative ideas out there in the fanfiction world.

As for me, aside from my fanfiction, I do write some original creative writing. It's mostly poetry (really?) and one-shots or drabbles when I just can't get an idea out of my head. I don't tend to post any of those anywhere, since I'm really paranoid about posting original stuff for some reason.

xDD I don't even want to look through all those papers. :sweatdrop:
It REALLY is a mess. It'd take about a whole day just to throw out the old and useless things. Hehe... I'll go through them one day... the day I move out. xDD I used to write a LOT of poems and songs, I guess I kind of stopped due to my recent class assignments. Not because I don't' have time, but because I like doing the assignments. LOL. Would you believe me if I'd said that I absolutely <3 writing essays? xDD People think I'm a nutcase, but I find joy in them. 8D Hmm... Maybe I can go through the first layers of my old papers, and see if I can pull something out of there. Looking at my old works always make me laugh. ;)

I love writing. I'm working on a KH fanfic right now, and that's really fun. I also was on the school newspaper the past year, so a few of my things got published. But even though my teacher thought I was a good journalist, story writing is so much more fun for me.

I'm the same. I always say my mind is far too organized for poetry, so writing stories is easier. I should probably be writing right now, but the procrastinator in me insists that I can work on my story after dinner...

My characters can't tolerate this. XD

I adore poetry, and at times, I can write good poetry, but usually...no. Lol. I can't do songs either.

I do write short/long stories, though, and I write tiny one-shot fanfics every once and awhile. Creative writing in my English classes is my strong point, most definately. Too bad I can't get people to comment on anything I write on here. I'd like to be a published author some day, but I'm not getting any constructive criticism :(

Gawd. I totally adore creative writing. I must be one of the few people who actually cheer in my head when my english teacher announces we are doing some :3 But it sucks, we rarely write stories or poems or whatnot in class, and I know I would do so well too if we did.

As well as reading copious amounts, I like writing fanfiction, for whatever tickles my fancy, (I have a fic here, ya know) and sometimes original stories if I'm inspired enough. However I'm a bit random when it comes to writing, I write when I want, sometimes leaving stories for months then going back and writing dozens of chapters in a row. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with an idea and absolutely have to write it down xD Other times my mind is completely dry and I stop for a while D=

I've also recently taking a liking to poetry... <3

The only thing is I haven't written anything decent in a long time. xD

I'm actually taking a Creative Writing course...called Creative Writing. xD

I'm really good at everything we do in that class. Except when it comes to Personal Narratives, then I suck it up.

I'm only good with fiction-related writing. I just love writing; I'm good at it and I love it. It's just one of those things I can't wait to get home from school to do. Even though everything is just words on a page, you can really bring it all to life, and that's what I love about it all. The freedom.

What is creative writing... but a creative figment of the writer's imagination?

Creativity is a virtue.

What you may consider "creative writing" may be looked upon by others as cliche and trite nonsense. Some consider a rigid poem taught to them in a creative writing class to be "creative" and "original." Classes can't teach originality; taking a class only further proves your lack of creativity - stick to the ideals, feed your teacher the inane bullshit they want to read - it's all just recycled templated writing in the end.

I have yet to see any truly creative writing in my short, 2 week crusade on this site so far. A well-written fan fiction, but something truly creative, bursting at the seams with brutal, honest love, has not come my way.

Yet.

Writing is a gift.
You have it, or you don't. You are a bad writer or a good one. You can't train a bad writer to be a good one - if they don't have that original spark, you can't give it to them. I can't wait to find that person on this site.

Writing is definitely a gift. What separates a good writer from an exceptional one is the ability to think beyond the cliche and successfully interpret something in a way it hasn't been done before.

However, are cliche writers bad ones? I'd say no. I've read some beautiful fictional stories that stick to their very safe rules, but contains, for example, gorgeous colloquial language.

It's the same with visual art. You can have a lot of talent/be a good artist, re-create something detail for detail, yet be completely unoriginal.

I agree that the best writers know the rules and how to break them.

i love creative writing.
i used to really hate writing period....although i enjoyed writing poems...wut an oxymoron.
but now-a-days i love creative writing and i look forward to the next creative writing assignment we get.
i'm taking expressive writing next year as one of my english classes which is the same thing as creative writing *is uber excited*
also, we have a speech team and my category is 'creative expression' so i write my own speech.
this year it was about a girl who's mother get's murdered and the daughter is raped and she doesn't want to a foster home so she makes it seem like she needs to live in an institution...she eventually meets a boy there and they -clicheness- fall in love
i also have quite a few poems that i've wrote over my lifetime but i havent wrote a poem in over a year now....shame on me...
i've got a book i'm working on and then i've wrote a few song lyrics but they arent very good.

I do creative writing as well. I get a good idea and just have to write it all out. I'm hoping to someday get a book to be published too, but I just have one problem... writer's block. I get it right in the middle of the first chapter of the story and then it takes me months to get back to it, by then I lose interest quickly and just leave it alone to gather dust in my laptop's hard drive. That's kind of funny since files in computers don't really gather dust since they're digital and all that, but you get the picture.

I love to write. I actually want to go into a career involving writing. I've got a couple of articles I've posted on my Facebook, actually.

If you're an old member here, you might remember when I wrote Resident KH-Vids (which to this day i regret not finishing).

I love to write my own stories. I'm currently writing one called America's Fall

If there were creative writing contests without grades I'd be able to write to my own potential but schools these days don't allow assassinations to happen in student's stories

Creative Writing has been a passion of mine, eversince I took the "Road Of Artistry", as I call it. I began drawing, then I began making comics, then I began creative writing and now I write rap lyrics.
But, yeah I'll sit down and make a title page in a book, and write a story...:P
