It's basically a combination of AIM and a phone on the computer.

Skype is where you can talk to people using microphones.


I would just simply make a new account and ask all of my existing contacts to please add the new account to their lists.

Skype is 100% free. Pretty much the cheapest way to call people.

Skype is free, we had to get an account for one of my computer college classes.

Skype is free as long as you call another computer, but you can also call phones for a reasonable price.
