Yes. It's not hard, because you just have to raise your CP. Try doing it without using cards that heal (like cure and the other card).

HP is worthless for Sora, and makes the game easier actually if you use Bounties and Moogle Shops. Without them, you would have a bit of a challenge, but not that much.

For Riku, the difficulty goes up a bit, but only if you don't level up AP either. DP only makes the battles take forever.
