View Full Version : Hey KHV, let's talk about exercise!

Much to my surprise (not really), there are no general discussion threads about exercise, but tons of threads on worrying about becoming overweight.
What does KHV do to stay fit? I've recently started jumping rope for an hour daily. I remember when it was a lot easier to do in elementary school (you know, when we had recess), so I'm determined to get that stamina back eventually.
Why jump rope? It tones muscles throughout your entire body, though personally I chose jumping rope because fat goes straight to my glutes and I hate it. (Some here can vouch for my pretty amazing legs though, I'm so feminine.) It's also a great exercise for people with addictive personalities because you're always trying to beat your personal best.
On another note, I can't seem to exercise without music, otherwise I'd get bored real quick.
I jog on a regular basis, and fitness seldom. I play tennis and badminton with a friend of mine whenever we feel like it and participate in an amateur football (soccer) tournament but that's kind of rare. I seriously needed a workout, and I still need one actually.
Strangely, I can't seem to exercise with music when I'm jogging. I tend to hum along with songs I'm hearing and it disrupts my breathing rhythm.

I've been lifting weights quite often recently.
I might try jumping rope now, actually. It sounds like it could be fun.
Oh, and I agree with the music aspect. I can't exercise without music.

I miss the days I could skip easily without getting tired v:
I take up my ballerina role twice a week, and I recently started tae kwon do.
Im also in a swimming club but that's more for fun really.
I don't do much, but my weight is really good. I usually jog or run to school everyday because it's right around the corner from my house. Also after school I usually do like five sets of 20's for both push-ups and sit-ups. I need to start going to the gym as well, just to gain more muscle.

Nice thread.
I don't do as much as I would like, especially lately because of much work I always seem to have, but I like to run.
I also play Badminton most weeks. I used to hike most weekends, but haven't done in about a month or so.
I do yoga :D and aerobics.
Like you I find it hard when I don't have music.
I don't jump rope x: mainly because I am too clumsy and get tangled up :D
I dance a lot, like all the time, but not in classes or anything, mainly because I hate being still.

I walk almost everywhere I go, or if I get a bus or train I get off early and walk the rest of the way. I eat only what I need to eat and drink plenty of water. Plus it also helps that I’m apparently bulimic. I tend to do multiple sports but around where I live either the sports are lame, they clubs close or the teams are really bad. One more thing, I sometimes go to the gym with my dad.

I run as much as I can. I'm also into free-running(a form of urban acrobatics) which I'm thinking of starting next year if I can get into acrobatics/gymnastics.
I also enjoy playing sports, so my exercise routine is fine. Too bad I can't get any in the summer...

Hmm...
Well this is what I do now:
-P.E. every day
-Wii Fit every so often
-Dance Dance Revolution
-sometimes just lift weights while watching TV
This is what I'm doing this summer:
-basketball
-swimming
-beach volleyball
-dance lessons (maybe and hopefully because I really can't dance)
I think exercise is more fun when you play an organized game with friends. like random knockout sessions during lunch or something.

I take martial arts two times a week, take fencing in college and am on a fencing team. I also go to the gym 3 days a week after work (when I'm not lazy) and sometimes go rollerblading around or play some sport games like baseball, basketball and such with friends.

Some community colleges and universities have them and there are sometimes also fencing clubs you can join. I'd be kind of surprised if there are none in the Vegas area.
When I was in HS, I used to carry all my school books in my backpack and walk to and from school every day. It made me strong and so can you.

Oh yeah, I'm also going to get back into Muay Thai. I'm not that big of a weight lifter, but I do a few push-ups and sit-ups every day. =/

I try and run when I'm up to it. Sometimes I wear my friends 40 pound weight vest when I do it. I go to the gym and weight lift at least 3 times a week. My goal is to start bench pressing 200 lbs. soon. I'm benching 185 and squatting 290 at 165 lbs myself. I try to do push ups and stuff at home when I can't make it. And I agree, if I don't have music, then working out seems harder. With music, you can work out just as hard, but ignore the pain because of the music. At least I can.

I used to be suuuuuper in shape, but then I quit diving and had no motivation to work out because, I mean, I've never really worried about my rate (my metabolism is super fast so I don't really have to do much to stay thin, but I still feel like I should work out to stay strong), so I decided to sign up for a gymnastics class. It's helping me get some of my muscle back, and it's really fun. Next quarter I'm going to try and take Karate :D

What does KHV do to stay fit?
I don't.
But seriously, in the next 4 weeks, I'll be getting the workout of my life at an archaeology field school, and for the past week I've been working a lot outside. Normally, the exercise I get comes from walking cross-campus to my classes, and various outdoor work I have to do.
What?
05-16-2009, 09:36 PM
Really, the only exercise I proceed with outside of Phys. Ed. is a slight jog around the neighbourhood at times. I'm not exactly fond of an extreme amount of exercise, excluding the fact when it pertains to my health.

Well, I have my training program. 20 minutes of running, 3 series of 10 push ups, 5 series of 20 sit ups everyday except sunday. It's kinda a hard training, but I downloaded this program from a web site.

In all honesty I would seriously advise that you do some form of exercise prior to your time at the Fieldschool. To go from nothing to something as intense as that will come as a massive shock to your system. Anything you can do to help start getting your body more active will help you greatly :3
Good luck, it is a lot of fun.

Haven't had much time to exercise because of school and homework, but I'll start taking walks around my neighborhood in the summer, and evver since I started working as a busser, I've lost weight from all the running around and constant stress and hurry.

I attend karate three times a week, judo twice, kendo twice (sometimes thrice) and jujitsu three times a week.
karate, judo and jujitsu are typically all in the same 2-3 hour period, three times a week, while kendo is only saturdays but every now and then it's on thursdays.
That's basically my only exercise. A friend of mine who recently got back from basic marine corps training has been doing some work outs with me, because I'm not very in shape.
Contrary to popular belief, black belts and high ranks in these sports/fighting activities aren't always very fit. In fact, one of my friend's who isn't very fit at all is one of the best fighters there... for some reason.
That's my only exercise right now. I usually start running in the summer, but that's only once in a while.

xD I feel so incompetent reading everything in here. I don't exercise as much as I should, but I do manage to get a bit in. I walk almost everywhere (theater, school, friend's houses, etc) because my town is relatively small and everything is within walking distance. I'll occasionally take out my bike or go for a jog with my sister though, although we haven't done that in a while because summer is when we exercise the most.

That is so true. I know some of the people in my classes who are rather flabby, overweight, and have beer bellies that do very well at fighting and are pretty strong. Appearance does not really say how good a fighter someone is.

Well. I feel rather ashamed...I jogged for 1 hour on a daily basis. I also jumped rope. I know I'm in need of loosing some weight, but to tell the truth...I was really physched when my father told me I could go to the gym with him. At first I jumped rope 30 minutes after my jog, but now with my leg as it is...I can hardly do anything. And I jogged the world's best 10k pretty nicely when I practiced(thought I almost made 2 hours xD).
I'm starting again, while I won't be able to excercise because of my leg, I'll try to control my eating to more suitable portions, no snacking between foods. Once the recuperation time for my leg is over I'll begin going to the gym for the remainder of the summer and If possible in school year.
But, In truth i'm not atlethic, just chubby and all.
Oh, that's right...I also excersice at volleyball, and I can spike and all, even thought I'm somewhat overweight.

Georgles, that's not little excercise. >:3 And totally true the part about not so fit black belts.
And well, I train karate 3-4 times a week, sometimes more and in addition I teach lessons twice a week. I also jog every day because I have to for PE, GUUUH AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO TRULY HATES JOGGING ? ugh.
I love bike riding, so I do that about every free minute I have. (Not much lately because being a senior = no life, well almost).
I also swim on Saturdays for fun, and play basket for fun with my old team :3 but that's only occasionally.
And double PE class on mondays.
AND OH, I do "beat it" at times if someone know what that is, so awesome.

I can proudly say that I do exercise ^_^
I swam for 12 years, took a break from that joined a soccer club, I was in a netball club when I was 5 to age 7. I was also in my school netball team for 4 years straight and now I'm slowly getting back to swimming. To be honest if you ask anyone, I'm an athletic-type girl. And I can climb trees too :'D
I play tennis at the courts that are just around the corner of my house and ride from my house to the beach once in a while. [haven't done that in a while] I love to run, its something that I do freely, without thought, and helps me relax.
Oh, and I <3 aussie football.

I tend to do a lot of walking around when I go out on the weekends with friends and walking to and from my classes. I haven't really been in any exercise routines for a while, I want to start going back on the treadmill and maybe even start doing jump rope again. I used to all the time when I was in primary school. I used to love walking home from the bus stop but now that we've moved house, my mother isn't really keen on letting me walk by myself anymore.

I'll generally try to do a lot of exercise since it was all i ever did at school, but college made that difficult so i was limited to joggin' once or twice a week n' the gym three times a week. Now that college is basically done I jog almost everyday for 'bout 30 to 45 mins, n' i've recently taken up cyclin' (AFTER SO MANY YEARS! It's tough, but i'll progress). I try to swim n' attend the gym (mainly for weights) two or three times. I've also gotten into jump ropin', but that's a work in progress. xD Then i have my work-out DVDs. xDD Those are for target trainin', mainly my tummy.
I would love to take up dance since it's one of the best methods of exercise available but i was born with two left feet, n' my brother has been at me to take up tennis. xD

I LOVE exercise. I used to hate it though. But, I found ways to make it fun. Listening to music is one of the things that helps.
I do, football, baseball, swimming, track, weightlifting (Bench Press, Incline Press, etc.), basketball, wrestling (At my school), junior cage fighting, push-ups, sit-ups, punching bag (Also helps when i'm stressed), and I eat healthy.
