About the User Portal

I'm sure some of you have noticed that the User Portal has been down for a good 2 to 3 weeks now. I did mention it, as have others, in some other areas of the forum but will go ahead and post here about it, since it is more the proper area.

We are currently working on setting us up with a new video portal and the reason the other expired was due to basically Deathspank not letting us know the user portal company was switching over to a new one. Of course, this could be due to the fact he does not come around anymore and has a new email address etc. Since spdude was never given the information for the user portal, those of us who had access could go in there and do the things we were, but he never received any information on the user portal.

I'm editing and updating this so I don't make a double post.

I've been in talks with Magnify.Net and unfortunately, we cannot get any of the older videos back due to where they were hosted prior. However, we will soon have a new user portal and hopefully, we can get that going sometime this week or next, and also I will continue on the tradition of the top 5.

I deeply regret that I could not get these past videos back for us all. However, once the new portal is up, you are more than welcome to post old and new videos alike to it and hopefully, once again we can get a great collection for all of us to enjoy.

I still don't understand why people decide to tie themselves with things that, apparently, they don't care about. And the fact that he didn't inform...

Are there any measures to prevent "accidents" such as these again? Because if something happens again, then everything would be start from scratch again...once is enough, I think. I myself don't use the user portal, but I'm aware that it is an important part of the site.

Yeah, we will make sure this time that this doesn't happen again because there will not just be one person who will have the information this time. I'm sure DS didn't mean this to happen, but it did, so we're going to be smart about the situation this time around to ensure whether I leave or RvR does or anything like that happens, the user portal will remain as long as kh-vids is around.

No, Deathspank hasn't been around for 2 years and had moved on to do college and well, he's never returned in all that time. We have no way of reaching him. Pretty much, now it doesn't matter as I was told that the site it was hosted on before, the time limit expired to being able to retrieve the videos.

As long as it's prevented again, I don't see any issues. Learn from mistakes, right? I just hope the new place is better then the old, it never worked very well for me. Good lucks with all that.

RvR linked the site up here and I put 'home' on the user portal as a link to getting back to the site here. Hopefully now, everything will work out fine. You'll need to register before you can post videos, but it all seems to go rather smoothly by what I can tell at this juncture. I'll decorate the site up a bit more later and I'm trying to locate the old BBS banner for it, which will be added.

We're back in business, so hopefully, now things will get back to normal around here and we can put the 'Vids' back in KH-Vids. I'll be starting up the Top 5 again when we have enough vids there to do so.

I have finished making a banner just a couple of days ago, but I was thinking of keeping it as an option if the site's skin gets updated.
Speaking of which, are there any news about updating the site?

And something else.
Above the banner, there's this really crappy advertisement. It ruins the the organising of the whole page. Can't we remove it or place it somewhere else, like in the bottom?

Unfortunately I cannot seem to move those and that's just the way it goes. I may try to do some coding later on to re-situate them elsewhere as it's mandatory to have the advertisements. In the end, I at least only put in a minimum of key tag words so that it's not nearly as bad as the other portal we had before with advertisements, which were even going over videos.

..well I figured out how to move them to the right, but now it's a big ugly thing. It was better to me with just the text. >.>

Sadly, that's what happens. At least I'm not doing what happened last time and we don't have ads over the videos. That was really annoying. I'm not sure whether to switch it back or not. Figure we can live with the smaller banners and text at the top than that ugly banner that kills the page on the right, and I'm not able to switch them to elsewhere. :/ I figure above with the text is less intrusive to the eye than that ugly whole right side banner.

If you can't change it to any other place, then change back as it was. It looks less ugly :P
Or, you could change this ad with another ad, less annoying to see if it's better. If it's possible.

Unfortunately, I can't change the ads themselves. The only control I had was to put what types of ads so I chose to put in KH and FF and SE and game stuff so that it would at least stay theme oriented and not be too intrusive. I switched it back until I can take time to play around with some coding later on.

Well, I must commend the efforts towards the User Portal. I'm glad to see it's functional once again. Good job to those who helped out. I may wait a little while before uploading any videos; assuming I make any more videos...

Hmm...I wonder if FireFox ad-blocker app works on the portal. I should get FF and see. Meh, ads are ads which I can deal with, as long as there not the ones that cover expand open.

The good news is that Repliku must've changed that crappy ad with that fat chick.

I don't mind those, but kids will go there looking for their KH and FF vids, and instead clicking on link that will redirect them to hot and probably malicious sites.

Sadly, those links may come up once in a while and there's little to nothing I can do about it. This problem also existed on the old user portal and I made the searches set to a certain parameter but yet that stuff may still happen. Please, if you guys see those sorts of links, don't click on them as quite a few have viruses and other such things. I don't want anyone to get infected with stuff. Especially avoid any with Russian lettering! I will see if I can find a way to eliminate those but I have my doubts anything is going to work above what I've already tried. Even activating censors won't eliminate ads of using the words so we're kind of stuck. Same old situation. :/

I did get a chuckle though out of sexy videos being also tagged with Christian videos. haha. >.>

Remember the rules for submissions, as a reminder.
- No fan art can be present unless you did the fan art or have exclusive permission to use it. If the fan art is not yours, please put that you have permission to use it in the description so we who scan them will know and not delete it on you. We don't want anyone getting upset out there at us for stealing artwork now. xD
- The video should stay PG-13 as which is the case for the rest of the site. No nudity or extreme profanity please. No extreme violence. Basically the rules for the site are the same rules for the User Portal.
- This also goes for comments/replies.

I believe we only allow Square related videos at the moment, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, KH, FF, Square Enix stuff are the rules for it as it's themed to the board here.
