Recently there has been sooo many cases of kidnapping caused by Facebook.

I worry for my friends that are Facebook-addict. I don't know how to solve this...

So, what do you think? Seeing these hundreds of kidnapping cases, what will you do? Will you still use facebook? I believe even you hide your living place there are some guys that can track us... :(

i don't think it's that dangerous. i just think you have make sure to set the privacy settings correctly and just put in bogus information for your addresses if it is required (don't remember). and of course not to friend anyone you haven't met in real life, i'm not exactly sure why people friend strangers.

Agreed, I'll check my privacy settings to make sure.
And don't friend strangers. EVEN if the picture shows a hot girl :P
No but in all seriousness, just play it safe and don't friend anyone you haven't met in real life, like Evilman said.

In some cases, my friend said "why befriending people we have met in real life while we can meet them anytime?"... I was a bit worried and tried to give him advice but he's just accepting all friend requests he receive :s

The tracker guy is the problem >.>

Just don't agree to meet people who you don't know previously IRL. Don't organise meetings via your wall. Socialise on facebook but if youre going to talk with eople you already know in depth, do t on MSN or AIM etc.

Basically, if you are not mentally deficient you have nothing to worry about. It is the people who think it is perfectly safe to befriend the person with like 2 friends who has just created an account who they have never heard off. The people who they then go on to arrange to meet alone. I mean really, they deserve it.

To be honest I would kinda agree. If you're not intelligent to realise these things then ... well don't go on the internet. It sounds elitist but that's just how life is.

Its the same with anything and everything you know? Heck you could potentially get abducted just walking down a street to go to the shop but that doesn't mean you have to spend all your life indoors scared of the world outside.

As for the friending strangers thing; I don't really see a problem with that, heck every single member for example was a stranger before I began talking with them, now a small number have my mobile number, some even have my address and they have become really close friends. I think you shouldn't be completely against the idea of talking to strangers, just be sensible with it and don't do something stupid like give them all your personal details withing 5 hours of knowing them.

I agree with you guys.. As for the indoors thing, i think it depends on the nature of the person. A person like me is a kind of an indoor guy. Can't say I'm bad at outdoors thing either. My nature is supported by my parents, who won't let me go outside.

Anyway, I thought I've been going off topic. In conclusion I'm now starting to get away from facebook. I don't use it, though.

    Meh. It's all privacy settings...

Most kidnappings can happen if you keep your settings extremely public and show all of your pictures etc...

I'm super private...lol..You have to add me to see everything..

I think it's more of the morals of yourself and the preditor. If you really think meeting this person in real life will benefit the both of you mentally or relationship wise, then go on ahead.
But, if you've talked to this person before, you should at least tell if they are a threat to you in the context they write you in; (Example: Text language or perfect grammar, etc.)

As for never meeting them, why would you put your home address, phone number, everything on there, then add strangers? I mean, unless you are over the age of 18 in America, (I'm not sure in other countries.) you're defending yourself. Younger children or adults shouldn't even be on social websites, it says in the Terms of Service. Of course everyone just presses agree to get to the "Congrats, you've registered!"
I suppose it's all up to the user to post that sort of information. I have my mobile phone number and address on my Facebook, but I know all my friends personally or from online. As for Myspace, I still don't trust it; so I only have my area code as my town, and my state.

It all matters of your prefrences of what is tmi. Honestly.

If you get to comfertable with strangers online this can happen anywhere.
There are kids who give out where they live and go school and praticle post every single event of thier day on thier Twitter.
I don't have a facebook but just playing it safe and remembering that everyone online is a STRANGER can prevent a lot of these incidents.
