    A short Summary

Sharon Creech (born July 29, 1945) is an American novelist of children's fiction. Her novel Walk Two Moons received the 1995 Newbery Medal; The Wanderer was a 2001 Newbery Honor book; and Ruby Holler received the 2002 Carnegie Medal. In 2007 Heartbeat (2004) was a finalist in the Junior Division (4th to 6th grades) of the Young Reader's Choice Awards, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Library Association.
    Life

Creech was born July 29, 1945, in South Euclid, Ohio. She has three brothers and one sister, upon whom she based the characters in Absolutely Normal Chaos. Every year her family would visit Quincy, Kentucky, the inspiration for the town of Bybanks, which appeared in Chasing Redbird, Bloomability, Walk Two Moons, and (by reference) The Wanderer. Her grandmother plays a part in Granny Torrelli Makes Soup. She received a BA from Hiram College and a MA from George Mason University. In 1979, she moved to England. In addition to being a writer, Creech has taught English and writing at high school and boarding school. She drew the setting of Bloomability from her experiences in Switzerland. She is married to Lyle Rigg, who was the headmaster of The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, with whom she has two children.
