Looking back I guess I should have said "monsters" instead of cards.
The basic idea behind it is the ability to take your opponent's battle phase and activate effects that could normally only be activated during your battle phase. Your opponent still does everything as normal, it's just that now you can activate effects that can only happen in your battle phase.

 

Oh okay, I get it now. I was checking to see if you meant it like that. Just needed to make sure. Approved.

Remember? I inherited Haou's darkness from you when you beat me in that duel, thus allowing me to use Haou's power for myself. Unlike your weak self, I can control and channel Haou into whatever I so choose. Combine that power with the Death Note, and I'm like a God!

Anyway, the only darkness you have is your own. It's very similar to Haou's darkness, but it's yours all the same. In fact, if I were to gain that darkness and add it to Haou's and my own, I could become the greatest Shinigami who ever lived! Now there would be that rather unfortunate problem of your light turning into a truly unstoppable force of evil due the lack of darkness to keep it in check, but that's only a minor side effect. So what do you say? Duel me for your darkness? I'll use my Love Hina deck.

And really, "happened to?" Couldn't you have said something awesome like "befallen?"
