Tessa stared down at the girl that clung to Sherridan's legs. The man didn't strike her as the fatherly type....then again..... "You didn't mention you were a father. Why are you letting your daughter run around this place?" Tessa asked, instantly and conveniently forgetting that she could no more protect herself than a child could. Did that mean....LeNoir was her mother? Even in Tessa's mind, that didn't necessarily make sense. Were they married? Hard to say. But no harm in asking, right? "Does that mean you two are....married?" Tessa asked, gesturing between LeNoir and Sherridan. The girl didn't necessarily look like either of them, but Tessa didn't resemble her parents either. While some might have considered that to be strange. she herself didn't think of it at all. But if they were married, then why didn't the girl know who her mother was? This was just too confusing, and Tessa felt a headache coming on, forcing herself to once more voice her thoughts. "This is really confusing."
Tessa ran towards the monster and used her Martial Arts skill to try and inflict damage from a close range.

Bryce: Level 2"Fine by me. She went to one of the western towers." Bryce got to his feet, bracing himself as the goblin approached. He cut up and then to the side in a series of quick, short slashes that caused the goblin to stumble back, critically injured. He finished it with a thrust through the chest before forcing himself to run towards the tower that Tessa had disappeared in. Boudica ran at his side, Emma behind him as they navigated the foggy battleground. He heard shots ringing through the air, and grinned to himself, knowing that Tessa had found her nesting spot, as she called it, and was doing what she did best. Another Level 4 approached him, and Boudica unleashed an arrow with a yell, striking the creature in the face. It was a rather gruesome sight as the goblin carried on towards them, the shaft sticking out of his eye. Bryce tried to ignore it and cleaved the monster in two. A message popped up on his screen, informing him that he had reached another level. About dam[italics]n[/italics] time. As they reached the tower, he could hear the sounds of fighting. The shots still rang out above them, so Tessa must have Lancelot at her back. A small wave of jealousy washed over Bryce, but he pushed it away as Boudica turned and fired a second arrow into an oncoming goblin. "We have to get inside!" He yelled to Emma, making sure the goblin was far enough that she had time to make it inside the tower before entering it himself. He ran up the stairs two at a time, nearly crashing into the goblin that was keeping Lancelot busy. Not taking the time to question it, he grabbed the goblin and threw it down the stairs before following, hacking and slashing as it rolled until the HP bar reached zero and it vanished in a cloud of pixels. He turned back to see Boudica eyeing Lancelot, who merely readjusted his grip on his shield and stood at attention. "Tessa!" Tessa: Level 3Tessa heard her name and spun around, waving quickly to Bryce before turning back and aiming, finding another target. She decided to take one out that had been attacking a girl, critically injuring it before moving on, allowing the girl to collect the experience. After all, if they didn't help each other then they would never make it out of this game in one piece. She was glad to see her brother was unharmed, and assumed that it meant Emma was safe as well. Bryce knew what Tessa would do to him if he let their party member die. She firmly followed the age old saying, "Never leave a person behind." Tessa took out a Level 2 Artillery Goblin in an opposite tower before turning her attention to the boss. She managed to squeeze off one shot, barely doing any damage before a Level 4 entered her view. A handful of shots and he was a cloud of pixels. She took a moment to rub her shoulder, her muscles beginning to cramp from remaining in one position for so long. This was too good a spot to pass up, and so she massaged the sore spot before continuing, taking out another Level 2 and gaining another level herself. She could only hope that Emma was able to garner as much experience as they were, and that she had many more bullets. Trying to shoot with a pistol from this high off the ground wouldn't work nearly as well as her rifle. Taking another second, she swung her gaze back to the boss, trying to gauge how much HP was left. A handful of players were attacking him, and out of sheer need to help, she squeezed off another shot, the bullet hitting his armor. Whether or not it actually helped, she couldn't say.
Ana smirked with satisfaction as the book hit its intended target, only to frown as he began to read from it. She had stolen a book about porn? That's what she had risked life and limb for? She mentally shrugged, though disappointment coursed through her veins, along with quickly fading anger. It had better be good porn, then. She was distracted from her thoughts by Aedion introducing himself in the most gentlemanly way. She blushed slightly, having never been treated so nicely by a male in her entire life. "Pleasure is mine." She murmured after frantically wracking her brain for the proper response. It must have been the current company rubbing off on her that she didn't think there was any motive behind the gesture. Or perhaps it was just Aedion himself, giving off the very transparent aura that this gesture was one of politeness and nothing more. For either thought, she didn't mind. It was wearying, trying to be so wary of her comrades, of the people around her all the time. And these people were going to be her comrades. "Hunter, you shouldn't let yourself get so jealous. It's not good for you." She smirked inwardly, deciding to test her opinion of him. "It'll make your hair fall out at a young age." Go for the vanity. She turned to Aedion. "My name is Teliana. But Ana will work just fine." She said, using her entire first name for the first time in months, perhaps years. It seemed to proper time to do it, or perhaps her mind had just been ready to accept that part of her again. She didn't want to delve too deeply into the psychology of it right now. It didn't occur to her that her last name was conspicuously missing. "Before we go on the mission, I have to go somewhere. Grab my weapon." She admitted, reaching out the snatch her book back from Hunter's hands. "I'll take that, if you're done spoiling the good parts for me." She informed him with a wicked glare. Just because she thought she had his measure didn't mean she had to play nice. Or by the the rules. And she didn't trust him. Definitely didn't.
OOC: I'll edit for Kara's The run the man had taken her on was entertaining, to say the least. "Carlos of Dahaka?" She murmured to herself as she followed him through the woman's house, nodding to the owner before darting out the door. He took a seat on a bench, clearly relieved as he made a crass joke about sex. Again. This man must be addicted. Veera thought with a smirk as she stood next to him, arms braced above her head as she scanned the area for potential enemies. She was barely winded, but the act was habit based, also raising her shirt up and giving anyone looking a nice view of her midriff. She lowered her arms before too long and sat down beside Carlos?, hiding herself from the view of a priest. Women were not supposed to wear men's clothing, and they most certainly weren't supposed to reveal skin. She had no problem killing a priest of that vile religion if she needed to, but she would rather avoid the commotion, especially with her new companion in tow. He didn't look or act like a religious fanatic, but she would hate to be walking by when he had an "epiphany" and decided to grab her unawares. She slumped down in her seat before glancing at him, her face now level with his shoulder in the most unladylike pose. She wouldn't mind if he had a different sort of "epiphany", but this was hardly the time or place. Besides, it looked like he had a rough night, and he might need time to recuperate. If he was an addict, he would be back in action before too long. She just hoped he wouldn't try to grab her in a public place. Veera didn't mind that sort of action, in the right time and place, but neither was she a whore. Taking as long as possible, she finally sat up when the priest disappeared, straightening her clothing. "Veera. Veera Dorson, from the House of Valefor." She had no problem giving out the information on the normal part of her identity. The other side of her didn't carry a name or a house. Her other half held a broadsword and a wicked good sense of where to hide before striking out of the shadows. If this man sensed that side, she would have to end his existence, sad enough for such a fine specimen. But if he didn't, they might get along famously. "Are you actually Carlos of Dahaka?" She asked next. Kara blinked, forcing her eyes open. Her mouth felt as though it had been stuffed full of cotton, which, after trying to move her tongue around, she discovered that ti had. Or at least some type of cloth. That was an instant reason to panic, and as she slowly awakened, she discovered more. Her hands had been bound behind her back, and she was lying on her side, legs curled up to her chest. Her ankles were also bound, tight enough that her toes had started to go numb. Her head was pounding and her throat dry, so she had obviously been drugged. She tried to remember the previous events leading up to how she had gotten here, but to no avail. Her mind simply wasn't ready to remember yet, it seemed. She rolled onto her back, eyes adjusting to the barely lit cave as she manuevered her arms over her rear end, straining before they managed to slide over her bound ankles and up her knees. At least having her hands in front lessened the ache in her shoulders. She scrutinized the bonds that held her limbs together as best she could. They appeared to be made of rope; the chafing of her skin definitely supported this, but it was also less bendable then rope, and more restricting. She tried to reach for her magic, hoping to burn them off, and found to her dismay that she was somehow blocked. Were the bonds magical? Shit. She was in deep trouble, and she couldn't even begin to remember how she had gotten into it in the first place. Looking around desperately for a clue, or even an escape route, her eyes happened on a motionless form. A second prisoner? She got onto her hands and knees and slowly, ridiculously slowly, scooted her way over to the body. "Hey." She tried to say, but it came out muffled, like a strange gurgling noise. Right, the gag. She reached up with her hands and managed to pull it out, before turning the stranger over gently and doing the same for him. At least, if he wasn't awake yet, he would be able to breath better. She licked her lips, then tried again. "Hey, are you awake?" Which really translated to; Are you alive?
Tessa shielded her eyes from the blinding light, but didn't have long to look around before the roar of the enemy turned her attention towards a colossal creature. She immediately reached for her Psammokinesis, but quickly ran into a road block; there was no sand in the wintery wonderland. Stumped for a moment, Tessa pulled her leather gloves on tighter, clenching her fist before instinctively slamming it into the ground, callling her Geokinesis into play. It was her most damaging attack, and until she knew more about the enemy, it would be best for her to just try to damage it as much as possible. OOC: Can't really post much else. Short is short.
"I want you to know this is somehow your fault." She was too busy trying to steer the craft away from the asteroid when Glen announced his plan to drive straight through. For the love of fuc-her train of thought was jolted by the vibrating of the gummy ship as it did indeed drive straight through the space rock. She was sure there was a joke in this situation, but she was too rattled to make it. There was no way her insurance would pay for all this damage, she realized as she looked out the front window at the scuffed nose of the ship. Wait....do I even have insurance? Normally this would have induced a panic fueled search to find papers, call up an agent, and get an appraisal scheduled. Today, she had just been through too much to give a shit. "You crazy son of a bitch." she said weakly, failing to release she was still leaning in Glen's lap, her hands clenching the wheel with trembling fingers. "Sapphire failed to mention I'd be performing a vasectomy today." And just like that, she found her sense of humor again.
Tessa nodded eagerly, her hands digging into the hem of her shirt. This time, it wasn't in anxiety, but in excitement. After such a long journey she was finally getting the answers she wanted. She finally had people that accepted her. "Anything that you have that can help, I would really appreciate." She danced from one foot to another, looking to Alessia, then Zephyr. "I don't want to cause any more trouble." It hadn't yet entered her mind that she didn't have a place to sleep, or needed to eat. Until the excitement of reaching her goal faded and she came back down from Cloud Nine, she could continue to ignore the basic necessities her body required. She smiled again, swinging her arms from side to side in a gentle manner. I'm not alone anymore. It was the only other thought that reverberated through her brain.
As their small party of three approached the Goblin encampment, Tessa sighed with relief. After such a stressful start, perhaps now they could just kill some monsters, level up, and get moving through this game. She looked down at the ring that glinted on her finger, turning it to catch the sunlight as they walked into the town. In the near area she could hear the sounds of battle. Probably other players leveling up. Hopefully this wouldn't be a huge competition. She hated fighting for the right to level up. The mist that sprouted in front of them stopped her cold, her hand going out to grab Bryce's shoulder. They stilled, listening, and watching. The skin prickled on the back of her neck, and the hair on her arm stood on end. In any other situation she would have appreciated the realistic tone to the VRMMO, but not today, not now. Right now she was concerned by the dark shadowy figures she could see emerging from the gloom. Mashtyr, Goblin King. Her heart nearly stopped as she read the name above the creature's head. No, no no! We're not ready! This is way too soon! Nevertheless, he stepped forward. She could see other players moving around him to attack, no doubt with their summons by their side. They would not be able to help with this foe. Not directly, at least. Dropping to her knees, Bryce towered above her as she quickly balanced her rifle on her knee and looked through the scope. On the towers, she could just barely see the forms of other, lower level enemies. They were shooting down at the players below. She took aim and shot, cursing as the bullet connected with less force then she had hoped. The goblin's HP dropped down to little more then halfway as she quickly ejected the empty cartridge from the magazine and inhaled, taking aim again. The second shot connected with it's head, inducing a critical hit, and the goblin disappeared in a cloud of pixels. She felt a little rush as she gained EXP, and turned to Bryce. "Go for the ones in the towers! They're only level 2! She shouted as she stood. "Lancelot, I need you!" The golden haired knight appeared, bowing to her with his hand on the handle of his sword, shield strapped to his back. "My Lady." He answered her, rising from the bow with a smile that could charm the pants off the straightest player. Tessa did her best to ignore his charm and pointed to the tower just recently vacated by her first goblin victim. "I need to get up there. Can you help me?" She slung her rifle over her shoulder and pulled her pistol out of the holster at her hip, carefully checking to make sure the safety was off as she pointed it at the ground, holding the smaller weapon with both hands. "Of course. I will defend you with my life." He turned, drawing his sword with a slight hissing sound, and pulling the shield from his back, strapping it onto his left arm with elegant ease. Tess glanced back at Bryce. "You two, stay together." She directed towards Bryce and Emma, her face contorted in a slight frown. "Don't take on the boss, and don't take on any of the level fours. I don't want to come back to you scattered into a million pixels." She waved and took off, running after Lancelot as she kept a wary eye on the enemies. Perhaps because of her lower level, they didn't pay too much attention to her. She wasn't as much of a threat as the level fives and sixes that were around her. Somehow, they made it to the tower unscathed, and Tessa bolted up the stairs two at a time, Lancelot only a few seconds in front of her. There was a second goblin at the top, snarling as it jumped at her. Lancelot blocked the monster with his shield as she dropped to her knees, shooting underneath his armpit through the small space created by his shield and hitting the creature in the chest. A slash from Lancelot's sword and a head shot, and she had defeated her second goblin. A message popped up in the corner of her screen that she had reached level two. Finally. With a grim smile, she took the goblin's position at the tower, holstering her pistol and pulling her sniper rifle in front of her, balancing it on the wall as she looked through the scope. She would have to take her time with the level fours, but with patience, they would go down. She could still help, even if she wasn't directly on the battlefield. She found her target, took aim, and fired. The bullet didn't do much damage, but it knocked the goblin back long enough that the player could escape a critical hit. She squeezed the trigger again, the recoil hitting her shoulder with a familiar jutting movement. "Lancelot, watch my back. And yell if you can't handle whatever comes up that stairs." She would risk a few broken legs over being killed. No sooner had Tessa left then Bryce was locking blades with a level four. This is bad bad bad bad. The goblin sneered at him, confident in its ability to overtake him. I don't think so. "Boudica!" He shouted as his muscles struggled to keep the enemy sword from slicing his skin, "Help!" An arrow slicing through the air over his shoulder was his reply as Boudica took aim. A second soon joined its fellow, the feathered shafts sprouting from the Goblin's chest plate. It screeched at Bryce and unlocked their blades, swiping desperately as it clutched the arrows, trying to pull them out. Bryce pressed the attack, cutting through the strange colored skin and releasing the flow of blood from its body. Half afraid that the cries of his victim would call its fellows to help, he pushed on, Boudica supporting him with her arrows and Celtic curses. On any other occasion, he would have found the dirty phrases spoken in her Irish brogue to be amusing. With sweat, blood, and a dozen more curses, the goblin went down. Bryce felt the familiar rush of the first time of receiving EXP, and fell to his knees, unashamed of his exhaustion. Boudica stood next to him, another arrow knocked as she looked over her summoner. He wondered vaguely if Emma was still with him, somewhere behind him. If she was, he would need her help. They needed to make it to a safe corner, where their backs would be covered and Tessa could cover them. If she wasn't still there, Tessa was going to murder him. But only if the goblins didn't get to him first. A heavy sigh escaped his lips as another goblin, a second level four, spotted them and screeched, running towards them with his weapon raised. "Emma?" He asked grudgingly. If she wasn't there, no harm in saying words that no one else would hear. "Emma, I need your help with this one." Boudica raised her bow, sighting the arrow towards the enemy. As the last words fell from his lips, she let the feathered missile fly, hitting the goblin in the shoulder, slowing it down for a second and giving Bryce time to get to his feet, giving Emma time to come to his aide if she still remained.

Veera brushed the comment about a having a male appendage aside. It wasn't the first time someone had asked, and it wouldn't be the last. Though it usually did happen late at night, in the sketchiest of taverns. Instead she ate the rest of her food in small, quick bites while the man disappeared back from whence he came. She barely held back a smile as the man crashed back onto the street from one of the windows of a well known brothel. He must have had a really bad night in there. Funny, I don't remember the women being all that bad. After he called at her to follow, she rolled her eyes but did as he asked. She pretended he asked, instead of commanded. It was more polite. As they wove their way through the crowds to his desired and as of yet unknown location, she couldn't help but reflect that the gods had, in a way, given her what she desired. Entertainment.
Bryce was busy healing Tessa while his older sister watched Emma's fight. He felt her wince when the girl was injured, and breathe a sigh of relief when she escaped danger. Was she so attached to this girl already? He sighed as he finished healing and turned on his own injuries, leaving only the very minor. As Emma approached, finally having defeated her summon, Bryce had to admit he was impressed. She definitely had fortitude, and determination. Perhaps she would be a worthy member to the party after all. He set to work healing her injuries, taking it upon himself as the unnamed medic to make sure everyone was back to one hundred percent, or close enough. That didn't need permission, right? After he was finished, he waited, more then a little tired but still itching for a fight. And he wanted to see what Boudica could do. "We did alright." Tessa answered Emma with a smile, a sharp eye glancing over the other girl to make sure there were no injuries untouched. Only when she nodded did Bryce stand. "Come on guys, let's go get some experience." He said, leading the way towards the goblin camp.
Files, hm? While some of the others seemed unsettled, Tessa merely shrugged. So what? She had never tried to hide her past, any of it, from anyone. No, it wasn't great dinner conversation and no, she didn't tell someone on the first date, but it was hardly a secret. She followed the boy inside the tower shivering slightly at the temperature change. Whereas it had been damp and humid outside, in here it was cold and dry. The air had a funny sense to it, and she rubbed her arms together, trying to put herself at ease. All the while, her mind screamed at her, "Be on your guard."
Ana blinked. "Who doesn't know how to stab someone?" But he had agreed to help, and that was all that mattered. So her mind turned to the next matter, that of the sword. Before the bead incident, she would have thought perhaps the reason she had been sent to help Glen was because of her pure heart. Now she wasn't so sure that was the case. No one could ever unsee the sights she had seen with those beads. "Well...sounds like we have a challenge on our hands." She muttered. Great, just when she thought she could have gone back and gotten some R and R. But looming ahead was a matter of importance, one so great she felt it couldn't be ignored. "Um...um Glen." That was his name right? "Glen, uh..." "This is hopeless." He was muttering as she pointed ahead with one hand, the other gripping the seat tightly. "Glen!" She shrieked, making a grab for the controls. Ahead of them was the biggest asteroid yet, shaped like a part of anatomy that Ana was not yet familiar with. We are so dead. Tessa frowned, but shrugged. "Do we even know who decided to call the Hero a Hero? Maybe he didn't choose the name." She clasped her hands and twisted her body back and forth gently, letting her arms swing. Or maybe he really is an awful person and your parents lied. No. No that couldn't possibly be true, and she refused to believe it. Her parents loved her, they wouldn't do anything like that. The smile dropped from her face as she frowned, suddenly bothered by the thoughts get mind produced. "Sherridan, maybe we should go meet that group of people over there." She murmured, the happiness bleeding from her like blood from a warrior on the battlefield. Although Tessa had yet to see war, so how she knew to compare herself to this was a secret lost to the universe.
Ana glowered, her face flushing with embarrassment. "You've got the legs for it?" She repeated, her hand going to her weapon strap before she realized she had left her scythe at home. Like an idiot. Instead her hand found the book, still somehow attached to her waist. Hoping to catch Hunter off guard, she grabbed the book by the spine and hurled it towards the man in a moment of immature frustration. In retrospect, he seemed more bark then bite, and anything was better then being teamed up with Lance. She would reach this realization in a few seconds. Until then, she watched as the book soared through the air, towards Hunter's face. Kala didn't register the injuries as she leapt up into a tree, escaping those damaging claws. She used the propulsion to bounce off the bough and back at the monster, slashing through one of those deadly arms before rolling across the ground. Landing in a crouched position, she quickly checked the state of her injuries before turning her focus back on the monster. They were hardly life threatening, the gashes, but the pain would be an annoying reminder of her clumsiness when it finally penetrated the adrenaline and blood lust. Gripping her sword tightly, she darted forward and underneath, slashing at the legs before racing for cover, hoping to avoid grievous injury from any retaliation attacks.
Tessa shuffled her feet, keeping her head down. The newcomer meant well, he was only giving advice. Conrad began to talk with him, both arguing their points of view. It was a little overwhelming, and as Tessa looked from one to the other, she hoped Alessia or Zephyr would stop the conflict She hated conflict. Regardless, the conversation ended, and Conrad bid them goodnight before striding away. She watched him go for a moment, her whispered farewell barely leaving her lips before she turned to Zephyr. He was so soft spoken he could easily be lost in the mix. Kind of like herself. "You'd really be able to help me?" She asked, excitement coloring her voice. Tessa looked from Alessia to Zephyr and back again before offering a small smile to Jack. "You don't have to leave. I mean. I thought I was in the wrong place, but now I think I'm right where I belong." She smiled in thanks to Alessia before turning to Zephyr. "Do you know Sky Magic too?"
Why do people ride Ponytas?
Tessa smiled widely before moving in to hug LeNoir. Finally, another girl! It would be great to have a female to talk to, and perhaps this woman would be on her side too. Sherridan didn't seem very trusting, and while that didn't hurt Tessa's feelings, it did cause her to pout just a little. She thought she was more persuasive then that. Anyway, the woman with the hat seemed really friendly, and Tessa liked the smell of her. Odd thing to like about someone, their smell. But that was the only name that Tessa could give the scent that wafted towards her, speaking of tricks and whispers. And naive, innocent Tessa found herself drawn to that which she did not know. Perhaps it was true, that opposites attracted. She was distracted by the newcomers by the powerful pricking on the back of her neck. "There's someone else here." She announced, turning to scan the area with narrowed eyes. While she didn't mind a good game of hide and seek, this presence felt just a little...threatening. But not towards her. Oh, she hoped it wouldn't come to a fight. While she could try to step in front of Sherridan to stop him, he was much bigger then she was, and if the woman, LeNoir, didn't think peace keeping was the right course, then Tessa could have one tough task on her hands. "Should we go see who's watching us? Or should we go to see what's happening?" Where once excitement had filled her at the thought of meeting the Hero, she was now tempered with dread. Sherridan was good, she could sense it, and he seemed to think that the Hero was in league with people that were bad. Maybe LeNoir would know. Tessa adored this strange person already, and for some reason, thought she could trust the stranger's opinion. "LeNoir, what do you think of the Hero? Do you think he's good?"
