A little late in acknowledging the start of the games, but I'm here now.
    The first challenge is to;
"As a team to find ONE song on Youtube that you all agree on as a team embodies massive amounts of sadness. In other words, find a sad song and post it here. This song must be in English, have English subtitles, or have no singer at all. You can only submit one song and the song must be in it's original language. No adaptions."

Anyone know of any melancholic music?

We're really coming coming close to the deadline, so I hope this isn't too late. I have two song suggestions:

    1. Sing for the Moment by Luka Megurine

    2. On Rainy Days by Beast

    Any thoughts on them?

    Anyways, here's mine;
    Wise Up by Aimee Mann

Please vote and agree on a song family members.

Friendly reminder that today is the deadline. (Looks like you already know that, haha.) Good luck!

PS: Two people competing is fine.

Hey people! I wanted to run an idea past you guys...

As much as I love KHVC, I feel the need for some challenge, or some competition of some sort
The writers have PoTS and PaNS, the GFX artists have SOTW, so why don't the musicians have their own little competition? There will be a theme, people send in their entries, and then theres a vote. Just like all the other comps.
I get that KHVC is more of a community thing, where no one should really feel pressured to sing better than others, but I think it would be good for those who want a little more of a challenge or contest to have this option.
I would call it: KHV Idol! We could have judges and everything and make it a huge deal, or we could just make it like a monthly competition or something haha

Well, its an idea I'm throwing out there, feel free to post your thought on it; support or decline if you wish *hides in corner*

I've been working on said singing competition since those were posted, lawwl, so needless to say I like the idea of it. I talked to Misty and some other staff about it as well, who have supported it and agreed that it could work.

My hesitation with such a competition is kind of the same thing (and why it's taken me so long to get it right) that I had said back then. There are very few singers on KHV who are actually confident in their singing. With KHVC there's a lot of interest because it doesn't matter. With a competition, it's a bit different because you're actually ...Well, trying to be good, which then limits us to those singers who feel like they are good enough to actually compete and not have their souls crushes or confidence destroyed.

Then you limit that to the amount of singers who are actually known to be 'good singers', which gives you like ... a few left. What I mean by known are the people who other members swoon over and view as an actual 'singer', not the members who ARE good singers. Which makes polls and voting bias (similar to the KHV Awards), which would result in -- since there's not a good number of confident singers to begin with -- a circle competition of either the same person winning over and over or one or two people winning over and over.

Then, another thing is that there's a difference in microphone qualities and mixing capabilities. If you have an okay-singer with great, clear microphone quality and a fabulous singer with muffled, hissing, static-y singing then the okay-singer is most likely to win.

Which brings us back around to mixing capabilities. If you have someone really great at mixing and making it sound professional and put together, they're more likely to win or move ahead in comparison to someone who doesn't know how to mix very well and is off sync and the music isn't blending and it 'sounds' awful, no matter how good them are.

WHICH brings up another something. You could solve half of that problem by having one person mix all of them, like what I do for KHVC, DR, and KN. But that's a lot of work to do all by yourself, and then you could require them to do it themselves, but that cuts down the anticipated participants by like half.

Soo - the main thing with a competition like this, I think, is trying to figure out how to make it fair, easily accessible, and versatile. Not so much about being /the best/ (or the most popular via poll) but something else that encourages challenge along with unity and fairness.

These aren't reasons not to do it, but rather how to improve the idea before initiating something like it. Which is why I've done five months of planning.

All-in-all I believe a competition like this would go over well enough and is a good idea, girly.

@Jayn: You really have thought about this a lot, haven't you? :p

Issue 1: The Confidence Thing: There are usually a lot of KHVC participants, and I boil that down to the fact that its in a group. People feel more confident in the chorus than say...solo. However in saying that, Karaoke Nights go crazy with people wanting to participate (I nearly killed Feenie a few hours ago). So there are enough people who are willing to sing solo and let the rest of KHV hear them. This comp would therefore be kind of like a step up from that, for those who are willing to compete as well. :) There are ways of making this comp fun, but I have to figure those out haha.

Issue 2: The Limitation of 'known' good singers: Honestly, this is what ends up happening with SOTW, and PoTS and PaNS anyway. There is a bit of bias in any voting, and a lot of the time the same few people win, because the same few people enter. There is the option of making the entries anonymous, so that people solely vote on the quality of the song, rather than who has posted it. That way, those who are 'known' to be better singers don't always get the votes, and it lets those who arent so well known as good singers to get some votes :)

Issue 3: The Mixing: Okay, so there is the problem of people mixing their own songs, but there are a few ways to tackle it.
1: Its honestly not that hard to mix your own songs, especially if you sing with the instrumental. I could make some tutorials on how to do it in different programs (I, for one, use GarageBand, so its a pain in the ass) but if you record with the instrumental, and make sure the instrumental doesn't pick up on the voice recording, it should be okay.
2: The other alternative is to get one person to do it, or for that one person to do it for those who can't do it themselves. For example, I'm fine mixing my songs, but if somebody else needs mixing, then I would do it for them, and send it to them so they approve of it. Then they can enter it themselves.

Issue 4: The Mic: Everyone who participates in the chorus has a decent working mic, so that's kinda not that much of an issue.

...Did I cover everything? haha. The point I'm trying to make is that all of these issues can be fixed, and there are enough people who are confident in their capabilities for this to be an active comp. I dunno, these are my ideas on how to tackle these issues :)

I would post the link to download the album here, but that might be a bad idea.

In any case, I was handed this album last night, and it drove me insane. Hospice, by The Antlers. It's ten songs long, and I'm only going to post the last one here because even though the whole album shred me to pathetic pieces, this one hacked out my heart with a plastic spoon.

Musical Talents/Interests: Singing (duh) is a big one. I also play the viola and am teaching myself piano and ocarina. Kind of. Musical theatre is also another interest. I've tried my hand at writing song lyrics a time or two, and while the end result isn't bad, it takes me a while before I finish/am happy, and then I can't write actual music.
    Gender: Male
    Theme Song: Maybe this? I'unno.
Personality: ...Um. I like to think I'm a nice person. I try not to stress too much about things (which can be a problem at times, when I don't take something seriously enough), and I'm usually pretty happy. Unless I'm in a bad mood, during which I can get moody and not talk, except to be horrible to anyone who tries to talk to me. Barring that, I'm pretty energetic when talking with friends, and try to be honest and sincere. And occasionally extremely sarcastic and sassy.

    Picture?: How's this?

    *Favorite Color: Blue!
Favorite Genre of Music: Most, actually; I can never pick a favorite. I'm not huge on rap or metal/screamo, though.

*Do you have a microphone?: Yes, on my MP3 player (and my phone, apparently...). I'm also borrowing an actual one from a friend at the time.
Anything else you'd like to share?: I love all of you.

Theme Song:This isn't the original version, but this one fits me more
