Well the Kindle Fire isn't just for reading things. Now I don't have one, but I do have an iPad 2 which is somewhat of the same thing. A tablet is pretty cool since it allows you to do a few others things.
About the reading thing, I also prefer having it on paper. But if it's something I can't find on paper then I'll download it on my tablet.
I'd say give it a go before going all "BACK IN MY DAY WE USE TO READ STORIES AND BOOKS ON PAPER, AND NOT ON TABLET COMPUTERS".
