      Well, basically, JK fell asleep in oen fo the train rides and came up with harry Potter, working on the first book and such and just went on from there, of course, she had every right to as to how HP was written and such and it is true, she did plan if not, most of it out.

      Of course, she didn't think HP would be a huge hit but the public clicked and she became perhaps one of the richest women in europe.

      well, that's why I liked reading stories where Harry grows a backbone, I didn't think about why DUmbledore never traiend harry personally and with thsoe fics, that did seem to be likely, plus if the Potters died, wouldn't they leave a will stating what was to be done?
