I don't think I've actually listened to FFtL at all really! I'm always open to new **** tho- how is it?

TttW is probably my favorite post-hardcore album. At least now. There are others that are nostalgic for me but musically and thematically this one is outstanding. I would highly recommend listening to it. Though it's one of those where you have to be in a certain mood to listen, there are really only two hype songs on the album. The rest are downers lol. And I don't know much/anything about FFtL either, really. I've only listened to Throne and self-titled. I don't care for their stuff with the old vocalist.

    well I'm a sucker for most things post-hardcore so i'll d/l it
and give it a listen. i'll trust your judgment since you made a good call with ††† lol. i've been on a nostalgia trip lately and have been listening to older albums from like 05/06 so haven't really branched out and got anything new. i'd like to try and find bands that i've missed out on over the years but theres just so much :X

I've been going through something similar. I'm kinda stuck in 00-09 musically. I don't really listen to much after 2010/11 aside from a handful of things. I've also been remembering/realizing how much I like certain bands recently. And I was just telling a friend a while ago how ~04-07 has some of my favorite music lol. Do you have a last.fm? That's the probably the best tool for finding music similar to what you already like.

yeah man, those were definitely the times that hailed some of the best music. i wish i could live through that time period forever lol. i've noticed that i'm getting into older bands that have since disbanded like finch, armor for sleep, etc. i like that they won't have anything newer so i can just stick with all their old material and not compare it. what's your favourites from 04-07?
i've actually been thinking of making a last.fm for a while. i might just. it'd be cool to find new music and maybe add some folks from this site, since i'm generally anti-social and don't invest in crap like fb/twitter lol

I've literally told my friend "I wish I could go back and live from 2004-2007-8 over and over and never leave" lol. Yeah it can be sad when a band disbands but at the same time they created all of this great work so it's hard to be too upset, at least for me. OH MAN that's tough. When I think about what I liked from that era while I was living it I think about things like Infinity on High by FOB, The Black Parade by MCR, A Fever... by PatD, Move Along by AAR, and Phobia by BB, which are all some of my favorite albums to this day. I didn't get into post-hardcore and that type of music or whatever till a few years later, about 09. Ngl, I'm not all that into p-h and that area of music much anymore. There are nostalgic ones, sure, and there are some gems that I like anyway (like Throne and New Demons), but I'm really a 2000's alternative punk/rock/metal guy at heart since that's what I grew up listening to and it just kinda stuck with me. But some really stand-out post-hardcore and the like albums for me that come from that era are On Frail Wings... by Alesana, all of Chasing Victory's stuff since they only existed in that short time lol, Wires... by ASD, and if we extend the time a year or two, Where Myth... by Alesana, The Hot n' Heavy by DDG, and FFtL's self-titled. I'm still a big Alesana fan, and I do really like those two FFtl albums, but other than those and Digital Renegade and New Demons I'm not much into that music anymore. And you totally should make one. I'm so addicted to the stats and all that. and yeah i don't even have a fb either. I have twitter but just to follow bands and stuff, I don't tweet and I don't have anybody i know irl on there. hbu, what are some of your favorites from that time?

good stuff, i would definitely say panic's first album is one of my all time favs too. all american rejects are p awesome as well. do you feel you're just kinda grown out of the p-h thing? it feels to me like the genre is starting to die out. i think i got into it around 06 and before that it was usually pop punk bands lol. waitwaitwait omg i can't believe you like a skylit drive too?! literally never met anyone else who is into them. she watched the sky & wires... are just ****ing perfection. those would be among some of my favs from that time and even now. other than that i liked the used, mcr, alexisonfire, senses fail, eyes set to kill, love hate hero. i could go on but eh... so like p-h aside, what bands to you find yourself listening to nowadays? sorry if im being annoying or like just rambling but i could literally talk about music forever. even just hearing about what people have to say about it ughughugh

(My favorite album is Vices & Virtues by Panic and Kids in the Street by AAR is another top for me.) That's exactly what it is I think. It was a late middle-school/high school thing. I guess you would call it a phase. Once I graduated I started to rapidly grow apart from it, though there are some that I still love. Hell, Alesana is one of my favorite bands period, though they're something of an oddity in the genre. And I do think it's dying. I'm not an expert on the genre, but to me it seems like the majority of the current artists in the genre don't have the creativity needed to keep it alive, they're all rehashing stuff that's already been done. At the time I was listening to p-h ASD was one of my favorites. I like Wires, but I kinda don't care about any of their other albums. There are songs from later albums that I like but they're nowhere near as good as Wires imo. And I kinda like ASD for Jag, so I never really bothered to listen to She Watched the Sky lol. But yes, Wires is great. My favorite song on it remains to be I'm Not a Thief... though they're all really good so it's hard to pick. I could never get into The Used. I like a couple of their songs but idk their music just doesn't do much for me. And omg MCR. I've liked them since like 06 but the past two weeks I've becomes obsessed with them. To the point where they're challenging every notion I have of what my favorite bands, albums, musicians, songs, everything are. If you look at my last.fm profile it'll show that I have about 1000 MCR plays within the past two weeks. crazy. I've heard of the other ones you listed but never listened to them. Well, like I said, Alesana. Since they're technically p-h I would include them, but they're so different from other artists in the genre and I never associated them with others in my head. They're much more artsy than most in the genre. They do high concept albums and stuff like that. In fact, they just released an EP today and I bought it and have been listening to it for a while. It's a 10-year anniversary thing. I haven't really listened to much p-h recently (have been listening to other things) but ones that I frequently return to are ummm Broadway, though only Gentlemen's Brawl really, Illuminaudio by Chiodos, Chasing Victory, The Hot n' Heavy by Drop Dead Gorgeous, This Is Your Way Out by Emarosa, a couple songs off of Escape the Fate's first album, those two FFtL albums of course, Fei Comodo (I don't know if you've heard of them but you neeeed to look them up if you haven't), New Demons (I love this album), I used to listen to Digital Renegade a lot but don't really anymore, and that's about it (I know some of these aren't p-h but w/e in my head it's all the same). I'm SUPER picky about what I like in p-h. For example I'll only like one album by a band and not like things that, givem what I like, I should. no that's cool talking about music is fun

i enjoyed v&v too. it was interesting to see how brendon would fare without ryan ross, since he seems to have been the backbone of the band song-writing wise for the first two albums. while i adore brendon, in my opinion he isn't the best lyricist. what drew me to panic! was how quirky and unusual the songs were, and how brendon sang them with a sort of endearing cockiness. they've changed a lot over the past 2 albums.
i see what you mean with the phase thing; it all seems totally intense and amazing when first getting into it, but the genre just doesn't have the staying power anymore, and we're basically listening to older p-h bands while the newer ones are just sort of...no.
yeah i just had a look at your lastfm, that is certainly dedication haha! though it looks like you're having a break from them for now lol (feeling kind of like a stalker because i don't have one yet). i noticed you listen to a lot of songs from three cheers for sweet revenge. that's like the only album i own by them and it's really freaking good!
honestly i hear so much about Alesana it's strange that i don't listen to them. like never even heard a song. they seem to be everywhere and i've had people try to get me into them over the years but i've just never looked them up. i'm much more open to things like that now so i guess i should see what they're all about. i'm sure i've seen you mention Fei Comodo in a thread here somewhere? like the singer has a side band called Hey Vanity or something? i've never heard them either. is there a particular album i should be looking out for? y'know i do the exact same with bands. i'll like them but i'll very much be a one album kind of guy, and the slightest little thing can put me off them. like i HATE when bands change vocalists. i very rarely am accepting of the outcome.

my favourite ASD songs are Drown the City, According to Columbus, Knights of the Round & This Isn't the End. been listening to Fireworks' new album, †††, Ghost Town (not sure if you know of them, i would say they're similar to I See Stars except...they're not? idk. like not as heavy but the vocalists are similar minus the unclean ones. they're pretty good tho)

Yes I agree with all of that. Ryan didn't have the voice Brendon did, but Brendon didn't have the writing skills that Ryan did. Their abilities complimented each other in wonderful ways. While v&v didn't have the strongest lyrics (though some of the songs do have really good lyrics) it made up for it in the music. Yeah that's a good way of putting it. My friends favorite band is Sleeping with Sirens and I could not care less about them.Yeah I wanted to shift to some other stuff for a while, don't want to get sick of their stuff. Yeah! Revenge is amazing. If you're going to give Alesana a try, start with their older stuff and work your way forward. It's interesting to see how they have changed. I probably have mentioned them around here. Yeah, Fei Comodo disbanded in 2012 and the singer and two other members started Hey Vanity. Fei Comodo's career is weird in that they were around for about 10 years but only ever put out two full-length albums, one of which is only like 6 full-length songs. My favorite work of theirs is the ep The Life They Lead. Their second album, Behind the Bright Lights, is good as well. The singers voice is such a defining part of the sound most of the time that changing that can be off-putting. Like if Alesana's vocalist changed I would be so done with them and same with PatD. Though a new vocalist can be great if you don't like the old one, like with FFtL for me.

Fireworks has a new album?! I must listen. I need to go back and listen to ††† more. Right after I got them I found some other stuff so I didn't listen to them for long. Yeah I think I've heard of them. I haven't listened to them though.

Couldn't have said it better myself tbh. Shame they couldn't move past their differences. Ryan and Jon's new band was trash though like wtf were they thinking with that. No wonder they split after a year.
Gotcha. So Alesana's earlier stuff first and I'll try out Fei's EP to see if I'm into it. I really need to find a new torrent site cos I'm still trying to find a decent d/l for Throne to the Wolves. Everything's coming up pretty LQ and I just can't listen to anything like that.
Yeah, and like, new vocalists who start singing the older member's songs? That pisses me off too. Especially if it's something personal or meant a lot to the particular person who wrote it. That's why I dropped Flyleaf when Lacey quit. I couldn't stand to listen to some random singing songs I love and could relate to.

Dude yesss! It released last week and I only noticed it on iTunes on Monday. I'm obsessed with it. They've grown a lot since Gospel and it may just surpass it as my favourite. I just want to put everything on hold so I can listen to it continuously.

I listened to their band and it was really bland. They were basically covering The Beatles; there was nothing original or interesting there at all. Throne to the Wolves has awkward production, so it may sound lq. I didn't like it initially but it's grown on me. Though looking around rly quick, I think I ddl'd Throne because all of the torrents were ****. But wherever you find it make sure that the first two songs aren't in 1 file.
Yeah that too. And oh man I haven't listened to Flyleaf in a long time. Except the song So Close. I love that song.
I listened through once and liked it for the most part. I'm going to have to listen more but my initial impression is the same as yours, I may end up liking it more than Gospel. The song that stood out the most and the one I've been listening to a lot today is One More Creature Dizzy with Love. It's probably my favorite Fireworks song now ha.
