No, you're right, the banning of fads like threads about a single forum member has nothing to do with the use of curses. It's the acting up of forum members that gets things banned. Which usually involves actions such as spamming and the usage of unnecessary obscenity. As for the common culture remark, the word damn is a word used for emphasis, okay? Hell is, too. Even bastardizations of swears like "Bee-yotch". (The word "bastardizations" has nothing to do with the swear word, by the way.) But the use of four-letter-words that defame women and really have no positive connotations at all? No. No one wants to hear them in polite conversation, okay? Whatever. I've put my opinion out there. I'm not your mother.

It doesn't have to be big, just not well known. Put a word you'd use to make yourself sound smart, even if you aren't. For example: defenestration. Noun. The act of throwing oneself out the window. Or perhaps: inenarrable. Adjective. To such a degree that there is no name for it. Syn: indescribable, ineffable. Have fun.
