Is there a character death that upset you as much as(or more than) Zack's?

    Obligatory impressions question. ???

    Favorite genre of music?

If you could pick another way for Zack to die, how would it go?

The weather was warmer than what he was used to and the taverns...well the fact that none of the windows had been shattered already made this place better than those back home. Keeping to oneself had been dull and separating from the pack to just observe the humans had taught him a great deal. Mostly how they feared his kind, how the humans would celebrate any time one of his own was dead, and what a good brawl was like. Still, dealing with humans on his journey just did not hold his interest like a good hunt did and on his trek through the forests around Novigrad, a day after he had last transformed, he found the most curious tracks. They belonged to a werewolf. Of course, he could have assumed that they belonged to him had they not been smaller than his own. That and the fact that he was no idiot.

It was another month before he would find the identity of the werewolf residing in Novigrad. It was a story best left untold lest he tell this girl that he had been seeking her out for the past month and distantly following her movements for the week that followed. This blonde girl who entered the tavern seemed to be made of tougher stuff than those around her and he liked that much about her. Weak wolves die fast. Though she did have the strange habit of buying her food instead of hunting for it outside of the city. It was not as if humans never hunted so why would she put on the facade of the city girl? Well, not everyone could be perfect. He glanced down at drink he had just finished then redirected his attention back at the fellow werewolf. He had kept tabs on other loners throughout several towns but found it difficult to put into words what he wished to do. If he could just start with one it would be easy to go from there and extend the pack he wished to make...but he needed a strong second before he could move on.

Kord's fingers tapped against the table as he mulled over his thoughts, keeping his head down to avoid the passing gaze of the blonde.

Sleep did not come soon. In fact, it did not come at all and by the time Enok had slid out of bed most of the day had been wasted fighting off the itch in the back of his mind. The beds owned by the elf woman were of good enough quality but that was just not good enough for him to find peace in the night. The exhaustion never became physical, however, as the specter would never allow its host to fall victim to the failings of the flesh but his mental state was another story. There were days he found indistinguishable from the nightmares until the reality of cleaning a blood-soaked sword came to him. Earning a living was something outside of his grasp and the only way he could afford a room to sleep in was by looting the corpses of the bandits, murderers, and other victims of his sword. Money had little other use for him as he felt no need to eat and little need to wear armor. Each life he took renewed his strength and he had quickly found that there was little in the world capable of harming him. Steel blades did nothing but sting, fire only angered the specter and caused its form to show, and any injuries that did slow him down were gone by the next day.

Enok ran a hand through his hair and let out a long sigh.
"What do you expect me to do? We've been here for only two days and all you've given me is insomnia. Gonna need more to go off on than that." Of course, he was met with no response. The whispers only came when they were in the mood and in the mood they were not. Enok glanced over at the sword propped up beside his bed and decided now was not the time to be wearing it. His mark had not been found and such a large weapon only got in the way of becoming another face in the crowd. With a city as impressive as this one, however, he was surprised that the specter had not been tugging him in every direction given how many criminals he could guess made their roost here. At least the work he did, if one could call it that, was good work. Cleaning up the garbage that dared to call themselves human was a messy affair but at the very least it was the one thing he could take comfort from given his "condition".

Making his way out of the room, wearing the same clothes he entered and tried to sleep in, he went down to the bar to order a drink to calm his nerves. The itch in his mind and the subtle twitch of his sword-hand needed to stop and sometimes getting some alcohol in his blood was what it took to help him keep still. At the very least, the taste was something he couldn't complain about.

    You were named? Kord

    You have been alive for?
    25 years.

    You were born as a...
    Human.

    You chose to be...
    A hunter.

    You were gifted with...
    The Curse of Lycanthropy

    You fear...
Having a meaningless death and heights.

    You love...
Hunting and eating what I hunt.

You may have heard of them....
    Alyse.

    Who will you fight for?
    My kind.

    What is your history?
The only reason I know I was born human was due to the fact my father told me I had human parents. They were killed and I was turned before I had any memories of a human life. Being raised as an Ulfhedinn, Skellige's word for the werewolves belonging to the region, was a little less interesting than one would expect. I learned to fend for myself and hunt for my own food long before anyone would have any reason to call me a man. My adopted family was all I ever knew and we kept to ourselves lest we incur the wrath of the Witchers and face a bloody conflict the humans that would leave more of my people dead than they were willing to allow.

Years went by and, despite the harsh weather and the battles with the humans attempting to spread into our territory, life was comfortable. I was comfortable. But that wasn't enough. I was not satisfied just being a part of a pack. I wanted something greater than that. I needed more. I set out in search for more of my kind seeking to make something I could call my own. Novigrad became my first stop where I gathered what information I could on werewolves who had not yet found their place amongst their own kind. Lone wolves die fast.

What are your weapons of choice?
A hatchet and a hunting bow.

    Who is your puppeteer?

    You were named? Enok Anzo

    You have been alive for?
130 years and the spirit residing inside me is eternal

    You were born as a...
    Sorcerer

    You chose to be...
    I never chose this.

    You were gifted with...
Necromancy. The ability to see spirits, summon them, exorcise them, and bind spirits to my own body. Summoning takes time and preparation and the spirits are not always cooperative, stronger spirits may even rebel against me upon being called onto this plane. I cannot exorcise spirits with the wave of a hand but my knowledge of exorcism rituals are more robust than any witcher or common mage. Binding spirits is an imprecise art and it would not be something I would be willing to try again. The more of them there are, the less of me is left. Being bonded with the Hym has given me insight into the evil deeds of others and durability beyond most mortal creatures.

    You fear...
The nightmares. Nothing else phases me anymore.

    You love...
Silence and sleep. I'll take 'em whenever I can.

You may have heard of them....
    Names aren't important to me.

    Who will you fight for?
    The dead and the wronged.

    What is your history?
A Hym is a spirit that preys on the wicked. It possesses and drives people to madness and eventually to death but when it came to me all I felt was its bloodthirst. Perhaps it was the magic in my blood that caused the creation of a symbiotic bond between myself and the Hym or perhaps it was the magic I had been exposed to by my parents but one way or the other, the Hym could not kill me. Instead, fueled by newfound rage that it had been tethered to a being of flesh and blood it used me as its weapon to snuff out those it deemed fit for death by its--my hands. My parents, being mages who practiced unholy magic, were the first of many who would stain my blade with blood.

Life since being bonded with the Hym had been a blur. I was pulled from town to town hunting by instinct and often left before the locals ever heard my name. Though time made me strong enough to control my own body resisting the Hym only brought pain and nightmares of death. The faces of the murdered burned into my mind as if it had been done by my hand and the only way to make them stop and acheive any sense of solace was to avenge them. I would have likely followed in my parents' footsteps had I not been forced onto another path. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise for my magical prowess had been nearly nonexistent. Or, perhaps one day the Hym will overwhelm the magic binding it and claim me. It matters not to me. I know my purpose.

What are your weapons of choice?
A steel greatsword and the Hym's magic.

    Who is your puppeteer?

Choma carried Atmos through the portal of light and was soon followed by Torrin as the portal closed behind them. His face was solemn as he looked at each and every one of the students before him. Unfortunately, not everyone had made it through. "The situation is worse than I feared." Choma said gravely. He closed his eyes for a moment and concentrated pulling all of his mental power to reach out to feel if the balance had been disturbed in this world. They had made the mistake in believing Eventide was a stable world and would not do so again. When he opened his eyes the look on face softened only slightly. It seemed, for now at least, this world was safe from falling. "We cannot continue like this. I believe every world is on the verge of being overrun by Heartless. This world may be safe from falling to the Darkness but there may already be signs of...infestation already present. We can buy time by clearing out worlds of Heartless but until we reach the bottom of this that is all we will be doing. Buying time."

Choma placed Atmos on the ground, propping her up against a rock as she began to stir into consciousness. Choma placed his hand on her shoulder as a green light enveloped her. Atmos's eyes opened but when she struggled to rise to her feet Choma kept her down. "No. You must rest. Magic can only do so much." Choma raised his keyblade and uttered the word "Cure" causing a soothing warm green light to bathe the party and heal them of all their wounds. All except for Torrin whose condition seemed to be unchanged.

"Don't worry about me. It'll heal on its own." The young man spoke taking a moment to lean against the same rock Atmos was resting on.

"I see...well thank you for helping us. In times like these, we could use all the friends we can get." Choma glanced over at the students before speaking to him once more. "If you would be willing to lend us a hand again, I would appreciate it. I need to leave for some time and I want someone to stay behind and look after Master Atmos while I'm away."

"What? Me? Uh...sure. I'm too busted up to get around much anyway."

Choma smiled faintly and nodded at Torrin before returning his attention towards the students and speaking up once more. "We will only be fighting a losing battle unless I can enlist more help from the other masters. I haven't heard from them in some time but there must be some others out there. If they learn about what has been happening they will have no choice but to aid us. I am sorry to be leaving you all at a time like this but I saw how you handled yourselves out there. There is great strength within all of you. Search this world for Heartless and take them out." He paused for a moment remembering a lesson that he would need to teach them all before leaving in order to help them on their quest.

"The road ahead is dangerous. But you will not be going alone. Before I leave you all, there are two more lessons I will impart on you all. One of them had been meant to be taught to you by Atmos but..." He trailed off and shook his head. He had already spent too long here. There was work to be done.

The party has learned the magic spell Cure and the ability Guard! See the OOC Thread for details on Magic and Abilities.
The party has also gained 1 Level! Post in the OOC Thread for your choice of level bonus.

So this game is finally getting a PS4/XB1 release this fall. No details yet if there's any difference between this and the PC version but there probably won't be. Hopefully with yet another re-release of the game Capcom is gearing up for a sequel to this. I mean, the fifth anniversary for Dragon's Dogma is already here.

    Goodbye UX

So I just uninstalled KHUX and I've got my own thoughts on it that have been brewing for a while.

    But first! Some fun stuff.

So, when I first installed KHUX, my first thought was "cool! I can custom make my own KH character or have my avatar cosplay as existing characters!" the shiny character art on medals was a nice bonus too. The thing is, it was quickly apparent that the story content was almost nonexistent and the only way to "get good" was to throw money at the game. Even being smart and saving jewels (the game's currency for buying medals) for powerful medals was not enough because, in a week or two, those medals would become obsolete.

I don't have a lot left to say that cstar didn't cover in her own thread. The gameplay never really evolved since day 1. It's still all about swiping at some medals. The core strategy for being good hasn't changed either. Bring some buffing medals, something to restore gauges, and your heaviest hitting medals, and that's it. That's all the strategy you need. Hell, when I showed the game to my girlfriend the first thing she said was "you're just...throwing girls [referring to Illustrated Kairi medals] at them?" And honestly? She was right. The game's addicting but the gameplay itself was never really fun to begin with. Lux grinding to get to the top of the leaderboards just means sitting down for an hour on a weekend swiping at a screen and that's time that could better be spent playing something fun or doing something productive.

Maybe if there was a condensed version of the game that only contained the story and not all the useless filler quests it might have been more interesting but UX just wasn't designed like that which is a shame. A game about the Keyblade War could have been great but instead we got stuck with a shallow mobile game.

I'll still be looking forward to more story that comes from this because dammit I like the Kingdom Hearts universe as a whole but other than that? I've wasted enough time(and money!) on UX.

But hey, at least I got the Master of Masters pin to show for my misuse of time. Uh...something that I'll be getting later today depending on when the leaderboards are posted. Anyway, this little rant is over.

On the other side of the portal was a massive cavern with a ceiling at least one hundred feet above and the walls hundreds of feet apart. There seemed to be no end to the cavern. Tracks left behind by tires and some kind of large treaded vehicle could be seen on the ground. The cavern was lit by a dim blue glow coming from the rocks in the area. If one looked to the distance they would see ruins of buildings half buried under dirt. A faint scent of salt lingered in the air.

Torrin ignored the girl's question as there was no time to answer and he wouldn't want to make that kind of explanation. "We need to get out out of here. Now." Torrin reached down to scoop up Nini and place the cat back into Mika's bag and out of harm's way. Others had already made it out to the other side of the portal but two students had remained either out of a foolish sense of heroism or...no, that was probably it. He glanced up at the massive shadowy hand overhead cursing over his lack of power to do anything to stop it. Had he been at full power perhaps with the other Masters they could have pushed the darkness back, even if it would have been temporary. But now was not the time for what if's. "That other girl," Torrin pointed towards Illiana. "Drag her to the portal if you have to but get her out of here. This world is lost to the darkness but it can be stopped if we make it out of here in one piece."

He left Mika's side and began to make his way towards Take intent on stopping the boy from continuing in his struggle so that he could live to fight another day. When Torrin caught up to the boy he grabbed Take by the arm. "It's time to stop. We've lost the battle." His voiced raised over the sound of the storm. "If you don't leave now you'll only have succeeded in getting yourself killed. No one will be saved because you destroyed a few more Heartless. Go."

"Ugh." Alder shook his head upon hearing Cerdic's voice. "Don't use that voice. The whiny-ness of it combined with your particular brand of filth is the stuff of nightmares." Alder grumbled. "I can see why I refused to make you. You're broken. That pathetic keyblade of yours isn't even in the same league as mine." At the very least, Alder intended on making Ria angry since physically struggling seemed useless right now. "What did we do? Use the Extractor to create you? If so, you're nothing but excess darkness. Garbage no one wanted and you'll be forgotten in the end."

Not nearly enough AP to reduce damage potential. Unless you're silly and equipping abilities like Treasure Magnet. And if you're still having AP troubles you can just boost your AP permanently with items or temporarily with accessories(in KH2 at least). Honestly, AP management has never been an issue in Kingdom Hearts considering how many bad abilities there are relative to great ones.

That's why I phrased it as "shouldn't both be abilities that keep you from having more offensive options" because it isn't true for Kingdom Hearts. Equipping Dodge Roll or Quick Run or Aerial Dodge or etc doesn't keep you from having more offensive options. Even in KH2 where the square button is used for attacks you can have every square ability equipped without any side-effects(unless you're panicking and accidentally find yourself quick running instead of guarding or dodge rolling). With Lightning Returns, if you want to be able to dodge or block you have to give up a slot that could be used for offensive or curative abilities in order to do so.

With the number of Heartless reduced, the Keyblade Wielders were capable of catching the movements of the Heartless and avoid most of the attacks coming their way. However, the battle had not been won yet. A Shadow leapt a Glyde and swiped at him. A Soldier Heartless zoomed across the battlefield with a whirling kick striking Mika from the side.

Glyde was hit for 4 Damage (16/20 HP)
Mika was hit for 9 Damage (11/20 HP)

Lightning began strike at the ground below, blasting apart several trees in the park as the winds only continued to grow in strength making it difficult for anyone, even the Heartless to stay upright. Two sparks of light came from the sky like shooting stars before crashing into the ground in the center of the battlefield.

Atmos was hit for 139 Damage (31/170 HP)
Choma was hit for 165 Damage (50/215 HP)

From what one could see, pieces of armor were breaking off of both of them. Choma had caught Atmos mid-descent and had taken the brunt of the impact but as the last pieces of their armor faded away it was apparent that neither were in fighting shape any longer. The vortex above began to widen as more Heartless began to craw out from the now widening fissures in hordes.

    530 Heartless remain. (427 Shadows, 83 Soldiers.)

A massive fist of darkness emerged from the vortex above, the body it belonged to still remaining beyond the portal, and smashed into the ground sending a shock wave outwards further damaging those in the area. Windows shattered, the light coming from streetlamps disappeared as their bulbs broke. Screams from the area could be heard as the Heartless began spread beyond the park.

Atmos was hit for 1 Damage (30/170 HP)
Choma was hit for 1 Damage (49/215 HP)
Illiana was hit for 1 Damage (15/20 HP)
Tinarah was hit for 3 Damage (17/20 HP)
Chrono was hit for 2 Damage (16/20 HP)
Mika was hit for 2 Damage (9/20 HP)
Take was hit for 1 Damage (15/20 HP)
Glyde was hit for 1 Damage (15/20 HP)
Torrin was hit for 1 Damage (21/155 HP)

Choma watched in horror as the numbers turned against them. Even at their best, both he and Atmos had failed to stop the beast from beyond. He had never seen a creature so strong and to continue fighting it with what little strength remained in their bodies would have been a certain death. He looked down at Atmos who was clearly unable to walk in her current condition and fought against the pain in his body to pick her up off the ground. "Relax, we will make it out of this in one piece." But what of the people of this world? Choma's eyes gazed at the massive arm lingering above unable to comprehend how such darkness could manifest into a single entity.

The Keyblade Master diverted his attention towards the townspeople he could see making an attempt to flee in the dark of the night then looked on towards his students who were now fighting a losing battle. "Forgive me. But the fate of worlds is at stake. If we perish now, there may be nothing left stopping the spread of this darkness." Even as he tried to rationalize his choice the guilt weighed heavy on his heart. Over his years he had lost many friends to the darkness as they each had given their all protecting the denizens of light but to allow these children to meet that fate for nothing to sate some sense of self-righteousness or pride would be a tragedy that would be meaningless. But one thing remained certain. He would save these children.

Torrin did his best to keep out of harm's way as he waited to recover enough strength to fight back and aid the others but his focus was broken when, out of the corner of his eye a redheaded girl was struck by a powerful blow from a Soldier. His eyes widened as shock overtook him. "Mika!" He called out to her ignoring the pain to make his way over, using his keyblade as a crutch until the ground shook violently. Both of the Masters had fallen and with them came the fist of an immense dark being. If it wasn't for the fact that he was already using his keyblade to balance himself, he would have fallen to the ground from the force of the shock wave. He looked at the young girl who had helped him earlier and her companion, not wishing to see either of them harmed as the tide of battle turned against them. There was nowhere to flee and, as it was, he wasn't certain if he had the power in him to portal them to safety. "You two!" He shouted towards Chrono and Tinarah. "Don't waste your time fighting! There's too many of them!" He hated the idea of facing yet another loss in a countless string of them but staying alive was what mattered.

Torrin kept moving, morbidly thanking his luck that the Heartless were now focused on other prey. He made his way over towards Mika, regret over another failure now coming to mind. "Come on, girl. I know it hurts but there's no time to stand around and lick your wounds." He spoke with a faint sense of humor in his tone.

A portal of light, created by Master Choma lit the dark and torn up park. The Master shouted at the others for them to come to him and escape.

Alder watched as Mora ran away, feeling nothing but guilt that they were the ones who put her in that situation to begin with. None of this was her fault and she was doing the best she could under the situation. Alder winced as Chrono was put through put there just wasn't anything he could do about their situation except...remember. Another wave of guilt came along with these new memories as what he feared turned out to be true. Everything revolving around the Extractor was not just Aevum's doing. It was his as well. With who he believed himself to be the memories felt out of character. Alder looked at Ria and for all the hate he felt towards that thing there was something more. Some positive attachment towards Ria that remained despite knowing all too well that Ria had hurt so many people. No...that was the same kind of feeling he had upon flinching upon seeing Chrono's pain. Wasn't it? Whatever he was feeling, it conflicted with what he knew and what he was seeing. "Dammit." He muttered to himself before looking back up to watch Ria. "What are you?"

As much as he struggled it seemed like he was getting nowhere anytime soon and, true to Mora's words, he felt his strength fading. He could no longer push against the restraints as hard as he was able to in the beginning but even as he realized the attempt may be futile Ria's sudden appearance only served to anger him further. "Not...going to...let you get away with this!" Alder growled, his eyes fixed on Ria with an intense fire in them. From what Chrono said Alder was not sure what was meant by wanting back what Ria took from him. "Killing Xen and Chloe wasn't enough?" Alder's struggle ceased once more as he tried to give himself some rest, panting as he tried to recover from the exertion he had put himself through, while he thought of a better plan. Unfortunately, talking was all he had left other than waiting around waiting for sleep to claim him. "Mora, let's say for a moment that Ria's telling the truth. What would your people say about working with someone who's caused so much pain? Would you ever be able to look them in the eye again?"

Alder sighed and shook his head with equal frustration that Chrono held. Probably more. Probably less. He wasn't the one who had an incomplete memory and didn't even remember his own name properly. "Fine. I don't see much point in thinking you're lying now that the truth is out." Some of the anger present in Alder's voice dropped but even if his anger towards Chrono over thinking he had been lied to faded there was still the matter of them being trapped. "We'll stick to calling you Chrono for now until this is all sorted out but did your name jog any new memories that could help us out here or what?" Alder looked back over at Mora. "Look, Mora, you have every right to hate us for bringing this on your people but we can help you. Ria's done nothing but hurt people and kill and has shown no signs of wanting to do anything other than to keep doing it. Your family will just end up as playthings for that monster once we're out of the way!"
