I agree with Jade, here!
They can, though I have no idea how long it takes or if the phone duration has to be this or that. But I imagine if 911 can do it, so can the police.
I imagine if you'd learned something in school you'd know of -at least- one example where people defended themselves against unbearable odds, simply because they had the resolve to -live-. If you look at the American revolution, where farmers attacked British soldiers, or any other revolution for that mater, you'd see that many common people were able to step up and fight. Sure, they had some form of weaponry, but they were also fighting soldiers in much greater number than themselves. This was 50+ people against 1. And what did they do? They cowered in a corner in their classrooms, or jumped from windows and broke limbs or severely injured themselves. This wasn't an open area, it wasn't a town square or a shopping mall. The students had a very distinct advantage over this guy. He could only enter a classroom through the door, so they could have waited beside the door and attacked him as he came through. Fact is, they did nothing. A few jumped out of windows, or tried to run down the hallway, which I guess is -something-, but others simply sat in their classrooms hoping that he wouldn't come inside and shoot them. I'm saying that this is a very sad example of the american people anymore. We used to be so brave and understanding of the desire to live and be free, but now we take it for granted so much that we forget we still have to work for it. Oh, and I honestly and truly believe that I would be able to do something, anything, if this happened at my school. Not because I've been trained in the military or because I've been through anything similar, but because I know in my mind what would be required, and I know in my heart that I want to -live-. It doesn't take military experience to have the will to live.
Hmmm... How, exactly, were these people even resembling kids? They were all in their lowers to mid 20's. When exactly does a person become an adult to you? And I didn't say they couldn't be scared, nor that they should have thought and planned out their moves. I'm saying their instincts -should- have kicked in. Why they didn't, I don't know. Maybe it's because, in our world, we dull our senses and we push out our instincts for more comfortable, easier acts and feelings. But I lied when I said they were all cowards. There was one person in the whole ordeal I respect, and that was a 70 year old war veteran that had blocked one of the doors so that the others could get out through a window. He ended up getting shot in the process, but everyone got out safely afterward. -That- is bravery, and instinct. Hell, that's compassion at its best. And yes, we all have a pretty good idea what happened. There -were- over a dozen witnesses who were able to speak of it. Look, you can all claim that I'm using video games as an influence, but you're just kidding yourselves. Throughout history, people, common people, have been able to take up arms almost immediately in order to defend their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Please don't mention video games anymore. I'm getting my ideas from history, not entertainment.

Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong
I believe that's called being Heartless.
You obviously don't understand the pure logic of the situation. The first classroom he went into, some 15 or so people got shot. Others in the classroom did not when he walked away to another classroom. The people in the other classroom would have had more than enough time to figure out what was going on. 15 people could have been saved if they had simply used their minds. If someone throws a punch at you, you're going to react. The same can be said about this situation. The pure and simple truth is that these people were cowards who felt they didn't need to react or be brace. They thought that if they just curled up into a ball, they'd survive.
They didn't deserve to die but their deaths were completely dishonorable to their lives. It is human instinct to survive and do whatever is necessary to accomplish that goal. Saying they couldn't have reacted is, quite honestly, bullsnot. They could have done anything, ANYTHING, to keep themselves alive. I don't care if it's charging him all at once, they should have at least died with their hands around his neck. And I don't care HOW good he is with a handgun, it's just that; a handgun. He had to have reloaded each gun at least once, plus they were not automatic weapons. A normal human being would have had plenty of time to react. The people who died were cowards, and they disgraced themselves. However, they didn't deserve to be killed. I don't believe that "the strong survive", but I still think it was a tragedy that they didn't even attempt to fight back.
You're right, it didn't happen in the United States. But it happened on this planet, which -everyone- shares, and to humans, of which we ALL are. I often get the feeling Americans are so isolated they don't really care if anyone else dies, as long as it's not on American soil... :\
No offense, but 32 people dying in the U.S. isn't as tragic as things that are going on in the rest of the world. Not to sound insensitive, but I try to think on a more global scale. March 27, 2007 Tal Afar bombings and massacre in Iraq - 152 killed 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings in India - 207 killed 7 July 2005 London bombings in England - 52 killed February 28, 2005 Al Hillah bombing in Iraq - 127 killed September 4, 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis in Russia - 344 killed August 24, 2004 Russian aircraft bombings in Russia- 89 killed 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings in Spain - 191 killed March 2, 2004 Ashura massacre in Iraq - 170 killed October 12, 2002 Bali bombing in Indonesia - 202 killed I think people have forgotten what the word tragic truly means. "Mamoru Takuma (November 23, 1963–September 14, 2004) stabbed 8 first- and second-grade students to death and wounded 15 others in the Osaka school massacre of 2001." THIS is tragic, to me. Killing grown adults who don't even fight for their own lives doesn't compare to massacring children who haven't even hit puberty.
I doubt anyone will take your word for it unless you give examples...
I believe that humans are not meant to know. We can never prove or disprove the question, it would be impossible.
Without unhappiness there would be no happiness, for if you did not feel unhappiness you would never know what happiness truly felt like, and vice versa. The first step in creating life is not pain, it is happiness. When a mother learns she will conceive, she cries tears of utter joy and hugs her lover 'till there's no tomarrow. Even the act of creating offspring brings great happiness. The birth itself gives a few hours of pain but decades of joy. In death, there is no pain. Death is the release from pain and therefore is not painful. It brings forth an eternity of serenity, away from pain or unhappiness. As such, death is not pain, it is serenity. Life itself is the medium between pain and pleasure, happiness and sorrow. We experience both and we make the best of each. With pain comes pleasure, with pleasure comes pain, the cycle is constant and real.
A product of our world. Let me remind you all that he wasn't as evil as many other people in the world are. He could have done -so- much worse, and he could have only done it for fun. I sincerely believe he felt that this world had turned to dust, and that everyone was cruel and unforgiving. He was right. Maybe his actions and choices were wrong, but his ideals were right. He was acting on his beliefs and feelings. He wasn't crazy. Also, why is it that when someone murders 32 people, the media jumps in and covers it for days and days, straight, and yet before the U.S. went into Iraq, Saddam murdered hundreds of thousands of people a year, and the American people feel they SHOULDN'T have done anything about it? (Serious question.)
"but threatening and not showing up is dumb" You prefer he actually did it?.... Also, the reason Virginia Tech was so bad was BECAUSE they disregarded the first incident. If they had gone on lock down in the first place, the event might have been much more isolated.
Pssh. We might as well renew old threads rather than make more. =P Bleach is better, by far. For one, it is a more mature anime and the story is much deeper than in Naruto. The characters, for the most part, are much more interesting to me, plus the battles are at least 3x better than those in Naruto. Plus, the main character in Bleach is WAY less annoying than Naruto. I HATE Naruto as a character. xD
This is not a contest, so I refuse to answer any more of your posts. I came here to discuss, not to compete. Have a nice day.
Ask and ye shall receive. ;P I am Christian and I do believe in God, and I would say my faith is very strong in that. I detest death and murder and I feel that the world is full of sin and immorality. Having said that, I do play video games. Very violent video games, on occasion. (Call of Duty 2, anyone?) And I even play games like Baldur's Gate I and II that are purely about a made-up realm of wizards, demons and magic, having their own set of gods and goddesses completely detatched from the real world. I enjoy these games but I do not take them to heart. I do not imagine myself in these games, killing people at random. I do, however, feel that there can be good reason to kill and that sometimes it is necessary to serve a greater good. This ideal is often present in RPG's. In a way, my games reinforce my faith and determination to follow God. This also has something to do with my beliefs, though. While my religion disallows murder it says to protect and love one's cousins(other humans). I understand this to mean that murder is evil, but sometimes it simply must be done. The practice of black magic is banned to Christians and the bible commands a witch's death. Many people see Christianity as a purely non-violent and peaceful religion. That is a great misunderstanding. The religion is about courage and purity of heart, doing one's best to sin as little as possible. But God knows that some things must be done, and thus we are allowed to ask forgiveness. .... Wow, I drew that out. Sorry if I rambled. xD
Hell yeah. Just think... " -alchemist snaps fingers, everyone within a 30ft radius suffocates- " effin' A....
