Speaking on a metaphorical level, I have found myself in the enviable position of "Cousin Elizabeth Bennett," only this time, Mr. Collins has all the perks of modern social media.

At least through instant messaging, sarcasm is harder to catch.

    ...Well, according to... uh, me...

    1: He breathes fire.
2: He's got huge treasure hoardes that he guards with his life, having counted every piece by heart.
3: He's got amazingly hard dragon scales that keep him safe
Except for that one scaleless spot that the arrow finds...
4: He is brilliant and intelligent and ruthless, and is not easily duped.
5: His sense of smell is strong, and he can pick up a scent with no trouble at all.

You know, now that I think about it, these things aren't necessarily good for us. Actually, strike that. Uh, I mean, I'll strike that. ANYWAY. These things aren't good for Bilbo and Company. They are very good for us, as it will make for an excellent night at the theater.

So there's this guy who's been coming to my church over the past few weeks, who liked me almost immediately. I mean, like, really likes me. He's been complimenting me, even onto the point of this morning telling me that I'm the coolest girl he's ever met. I've known about it like the whole time he's been coming, he just likes me. Well, today he texted me saying that he wanted to ask me something, but gets really nervous around me, so he wants to talk on Wednesday. Then he texted my little sister and asked her to tell me that he likes me. The thing is, the feeling isn't mutual. I mean, he seems like a really nice guy, and I do want to befriend him, but I'm not attracted to him at all and I know that things just wouldn't work out between us.
And it's not even that I'm going by looks or anything, really, I've had crushes on guys before that had nothing at all to do with how they looked. But speaking on an emotional level, I feel nothing towards him except for maybe a comradeship. I think the biggest reason he likes me is he's never met someone who rocked geek so hard. Pretty much, the majority of his compliments have revolved around my being a geek and proud of it. He respects that I know who I am and am not afraid to show it.
But even in geekism being the one thing we have in common, we're not even into the same stuff. He's not a Trekkie, he doesn't follow Doctor Who, He likes Star Wars but I get the impression it's more of a "meh" thing with him. He can talk about comic book superheroes, but if he does have the same liking that I do (could never afford the comics but latched onto the movies and fanfic and google-power with a passion bordering on blind obsession) he's hidden it pretty well. He does like the Harry Potter books, though, so that's a thing. But then he said that his eyes would burn out if he had a little sister who watched My Little Pony. So, pretty much, he likes me for being who I am and feels he relates, but when it comes down to it, we have nothing in common. And yeah, I know that opposites attract, but there's gotta be something more than Harry Potter there or it just won't work.
So I don't intend to accept his potential offer to go out, but I have no idea how to say no. Nobody's ever asked me out before. This is all new. And I want to be honest with him, I don't want to cop out and say something like "I'm just not looking for a relationship right now." Especially as there are two other guys I know who I would go with if they asked me. So I want to be honest with this guy, but I want to be tactful and kind in my rejection. Please, help me out, and quickly. I'm not sure he'll wait 'till Wednesday.

Because I realized today that I've grown to just be annoyed by people. With exceptions, of course. Because I've got friends that are pretty cool (Including you guys ^.^) But then the people I know who don't fit the "pretty cool" classification are far more overbearing than others, and it seems like there are more of them in the world. Is this cynical? Maybe. Is it true? That's debatable. But is it fun to go through life inwardly rolling your eyes at everyone and biting your tongue to keep from insulting them, thus placing yourself on their level? No. So, please, restore my faith in humanity. Thanks.

Game front... Game front? I feel like that's the wrong phrase... Anyway, guess whose beloved Darth Vader goblet that was a Christmas present from a good good friend just broke into a million pieces. Yeah, kinda sad. But funnily enough, the ceramic smelled overbearingly of sulfur. Like, seriously, it was like walking through Yellowstone. So, I lost a dear item today. But what could do that? Anybody know?

    RIP Darth Vader ceramic goblet.

The phrase "Worth its weight in gold" applied to an object with no mass. I've just been thinking about it a lot lately. Two examples that come to mind being a line from the song "Notes" in Phantom of the Opera, and a line from the Phineas and Ferb: Across the Dimensions special, in the song about summer.

Line 1: "Bad news on Soprano scene. First Carlotta, now Christine. Still, somehow, the seats get sold. Gossip's worth it's weight in gold."

Gossip has no mass. Gossip is the spreading of rumors, be they true or untrue, through word of mouth. It doesn't weigh anything. Therefore, it's weight in gold amounts to nothing. Therefore, it is worthless.

Line 2: "Summer, every single moment is worth its weight in gold!"

Again, moments have no mass, moments are simply events in time, they are just another way of measuring time. They don't weigh anything at all! How can something that weighs nothing be compared to an object of monetary worth such as gold?

Of course, they could be trying to say that it's priceless, but that's not what comes to mind when I read the phrase. I feel like whatever their intent, they just kinda missed the point on this one.

Rant over. What are some phrases that bug you guys?

Always thought you'd make a pretty good pirate? Never really thought about it, but think you would now? Simply have nothing better to do? Then this contest is for you!

Hosted by the Intergalactic Ninja Vampire Space Pirates, this event will be split into three parts and scored by a panel of five judges; Cap'n Marushi (me) and my trusty 1st Officer Loxare will be judging all three events, while INVSP members Beucefilous, Midnight Star and HoT will each judge one event. And, taking time from their busy schedules to join us and also judging all three events will be our two guest judges; Jayn and Llave!

    The Contest

The three parts of the contest will be scored by the judges using a point system.

    1. Questionnaire

Entrants will fill out answers to ten questions of varying difficulty, all about pirates and the like. Points will be awarded for creativity and for pirateness.

    2. Creative Entry

Entrants will submit some form of creative entry involving themselves as a pirate. It can be a photo, a drawing, a video, a song, a short story, a poem... Pretty much, just be creative. And a pirate. Points will be awarded for creativity, pirateness, and to a lesser extent, technicality.

    3. Roleplay

This part of the contest will indubitably last the longest. A roleplay will be opened in the RP Arena, and the entrants will work together to raid the treasure of a planet, overcoming obstacles and enemies played by members of the INVSP. Depending on how many entrants we have, we will either put you all in the same crew or we will randomly split the entrants into two or more crews. Each crew will elect a Captain and a 1st Officer to lead them. Points will be awarded for teamwork, creativity, pirateness, and to a far lesser extent, roleplaying ability. If there is more than one crew, extra points will be awarded to the first crew to raid the planet. The overall points for each crew will be divided among the members of that crew and added to their final scores.

    THE WINNER!!!

The winner of the contest will be announced the Pirate of the Year, and will be given a grand prize of...

Nothing. Yeah, see, I'm not the best event planner in the world... We've been talking about this contest for months, and as far as a prize goes, the only thing we can offer you is first consideration for guest judge next year. You don't even get a sig. Maybe next year we'll be able to offer something.

    When is it?

The 1st part of the contest will begin on November 14th, when we will post the questionnaire and a deadline. The submission for the Creative Entry will begin on the 24th with a deadline of the 30th. As it is a matter of creativity, entrants can begin working on their Creative Entry as soon as they wish. Guidelines will be posted below. As for the roleplay part of the contest, it will begin sometime after the 24th, and it will not have a set deadline.

    How do I sign up?

It's very simple. All you have to do is post in this thread that you want to enter, and I will add you to the list. If, for any reason, you must drop out, send me a VM and I'll remove you from the contest.

Rules and guidelines for the Creative Entries:

Please don't make your video more than around five minutes long. Please keep it clean; not too much profanity, no romance above PG13, follow KHV rules regarding content and the like.
Please don't have your image bigger than 800x500 pixels. Please keep it tasteful and fun, and follow the KHV rules regarding content.
As a guideline, please don't have your story shorter than 500 words or longer than 10,000. If you do not follow this guideline, you will not be disqualified and it won't necessarily hurt your score, but the word limits make it easier for us to read. Again, keep the content fairly clean, not too much profanity, no romance above PG13, you know the drill. Fanfic is allowed; your character can be in Pirates of the Caribbean if you so desire. But bear in mind that you're also being judged on creativity, so while that doesn't necessarily mean that your story will get a lesser score, you might have a better chance with an original piece of work. I guess it all depends on how original the plot itself is. If one story is based on an entrant meeting Jack Sparrow and the plot is more creative than a completely original story, the first will get more points than the second.
Please keep your lyrics fairly clean in content. There are no guidelines as to length, but bear in mind that the easier something is to read, the better your chances of a higher score. If you write a song, you may record it and submit a link to the song, and if you want to record yourself reading your poem aloud, you may also send a link of your recital. If you take either of these options, please include a copy of the lyrics with your link, so we can read the words as we listen.
If you are so inclined and have much time upon thine hands, thou mayest make one presentation including two or more of the above creative entries. For example, you could write and record a song, and animate a music video for it.
If I have missed something and you would like to do a Creative Entry aside from one of the options above, VM me about it and I will give you a set of guidelines for that medium, and then I will edit this post with the guidelines for the new medium.

Above all, have fun with this! That's why we're putting this whole thing together. :)

    Signing off, Cap'n Marushi

    SPOILERS AHEAD
Despite the many flaws of the two movies, I really liked them. The biggest hang up for me, though, the thing I can't get over, is future generations. Or, dare I say it, the Next Generations.

First movie, Vulcan is destroyed, and only a small amount of Vulcans survive to colonize a new planet. So what are the odds of Tuvoc being born? Without Tuvoc, the entire series of Voyager is thrown. Although really (getting a bit into Into Darkness here), with the amount of mass death in the two movies, what with the destruction of the Kelvin, the destruction of the entire Star Fleet fleet sans Enterprise, the destruction of the archives, the mass destruction when Khan pilots the ship into San Fransisco and knocks down a few buildings not to mention pedestrians... What are the odds the same people who pilot Enterprise D and Voyager will even be born? I checked up on Picard, I think he'd be safe, what with his being born in France 47 years after Into Darkness and everything. But what about some of the other characters, characters like Tom Paris, who came from a Star Fleet family? What about Will Riker, who also came from a Star Fleet family? Not only was his father an Admiral, but we know from watching Voyager's episode "Death Wish" that Riker's family was settled in the U.S., as his ancestor, Colonel Thaddeus Riker, was rescued by a member of the Q Continuum, when the Q carried him from the front lines of the American Civil War to safety upon being wounded. So who's to say that Riker's family, with their military history, would have survived both onslaughts against the Federation?
What about other characters, too? What of Harry Kim? What of Captain Janeway? What of Geordi LaForge, and Reginald Barclay? What about Dr. Crusher and Wesley? And, to other extents, what about the characters whose lives were affected by these characters? If, for example, Voyager had to do without Tuvoc and Paris, who both played vital roles in not only the journey home, but in the actual events that transpired in their jump. If not for them, would Voyager have even survived? And if Voyager had, by some miracle, done so, would they have been able to team up with the Maquis without Tuvoc there to help? And if they hadn't been able to team up with the Maquis, where would that leave Neelix and Kess?
Or imagine Next Gen without Riker. I can't pull any huge fate-altering examples off the top of my head, but just imagine it! Riker has saved just as many lives, with his actions, as any other Star Trek character. Especially as First Officer for a ship such as the Enterprise. He plays a vital role in Earth History (history being, in this case, relative), if he were to never exist, what horrific outcomes might take place?

So that's my biggest hang up with these films, not having seen much of TOS and only having extensively watched Next Gen and Voyager. These movies really screwed up the future generations of the series.

And we just put Peter Pan in our old VCR. The opening song just came on.
We used to watch this movie almost twice a week, I know it almost by heart.
There's just something about Peter Pan that makes my heart happy. It's like a little piece of childhood wrapped up in an old plastic VHS case. Because, at heart, no one ever wants to grow up.

I also never realized they were supposed to be British. Don't know exactly how it escaped my notice, but it did. XD

    Ahoy!

It be annual Talk Like A Pirate Day today, mateys! I'd plumb forgotten all about it til I woke up today and saw the event on me calender. I was already wearing a pirate t-shirt, I love pirates so much. But shan't be long now and I'll go all out with me old costume what's been gettin' better each year as I collect more pieces. Hopefully I'll be able to commandeer a vessel and sail to the city, where (participating) Krispy Kreme stores be handin' out a free dozen donuts to customers dressed like a pirate! It be the golden treasure o' the day, and I shall hunt it down!

and one of our older friends came over and sat down, and she was watching with us. Then she was laughing that one Pony had a Chicken for a Cutie Mark, and my sis was like "All the ponies have Cutie Marks." and our friend was like "Oh, I know. I used to watch My Little Pony when I was a kid. But they never had other animals as their Cutie Marks. They all had things like, Hearts, and stars, and, Horseshoes."
And I just burst out laughing, and I was like "Clovers and blue moons? Hourglasses, rainbows, and tasty red balloons!?"

Yeah, I was laughing for a really long time after that.

I was half-paying attention to the opening credits while everyone else was getting dinner before the movie, and I saw a familiar name: Yensid. And I was like "WHAT did you guys see that?! That guy's name was Yensid!" And my sis was like "What, no way! Go back, I think you're kidding." And I rewound the DVD and I pressed play and I was like "There, look, see, it says 'Based on a story by Retlaw Yensid'- wait... Retlaw Yensid... WALTER DISNEY!?!" And then I was like Are you serious, Disney? You had to put your name on there backwards? Why not just claim it? It was already a Disney movie... Why even stick it in there?

So, big news in my house tonight. Retlaw Yensid wrote movies.
