Axel is a pyro freak, so he can die of fire,but his body parts can be protected by the flames.
But Luxord played a much bigger role in Final Mix+ Xaldin also. They still left out Demyx and Axel had way too much cutscene time.So it is only fair that each member has equally major roles,excluding Saix,Axel,Xemnas and Roxas.
