Some people stereotype through their entire lives. My mother still stereotypes modern rock as "I wanna **** this girl" repeated over and over again, despite my attempts to change her opinion.

It all really boils down to when you believe the intelligence of a child begins (or when the soul enters the body, if you're religious - some cultures don't believe the soul is present for years, while others (ours) believe that the soul is present from conception).

I thought late-term abortion was illegal? Or was that only partial-birth abortion?

Either way, regardless of how I feel about other types of abortion, once the baby can live outside the womb, it's wrong to kill it. That said, vigilante justice was not the way to go in this case. Especially because it wasn't a total failure of the legal system (see the Vigilantism thread), but a select group of opposers, most of which denounced the shooting to begin with.

Well, stereotypes can, in certain situations, help people easily identify the things and situations around them. When humanity was still in its early stages (Australopithecus afarensis, etc), we probably stereotyped (edible, dangerous, inedible, poisonous, useful, useless, slow, fast, etc). Many animals do this in some form or another. It's in our genes to do so. However, nowadays, the genes are still there, but the need is gone. We still feel a need to categorize, but the true purpose is no longer relevant. The important thing about stereotyping, in my opinion, is to use it only when it truly applies. For instance, the stereotype that black people are taller than others is valid in certain contexts. Some African tribes could indeed reach 7-8 feet. So, in certain contexts, that stereotype can be used. But it's necessary to realize when they are and are not useful. Primitive societies - useful. High school - definitely not useful.

Finally. I've been waiting for something like this. I may actually see cheap fusion power in my lifetime, as long as these guys get the funding they need.

Yes, but (and this applies mostly to fast food) many times, if a certain amount of meat is not sold or consumed, they don't cut down on the amount slaughtered, they just A)throw it away or B)send it to some other use (dog food, maybe, or something similar? I don't really know). Now, personally, I would rather eat the meat than see it thrown away.

And it's not like these slaughtering processes are calibrated to cause the most pain possible before death. All the horror stories you hear are usually the worst of the worst. Most cow enclosures, for instance, are automatically cleaned daily, and the standard of life there is actually quite high, considering their destination. The only reason they aren't aloud to roam free before slaughter is because you would need an area the size of Texas (probably) to house them all without denuding the grass.

Besides, without the use of meat and hides from most food animals, they would probably be extinct by now, since the human race is not known for it's tendancy to keep useless natural things around (see: Mountaintop removal here in NC, rainforest destruction in the Amazon, the Dodo (slaughtered because they were an easy kill), etc). I think any animal, if it could be asked, would rather be farmed and eaten than extinct.

Sucks to be you. I'm 21, rising college senior, and STILL leaching from my folks. In fact, they're paying my entire senior year!

But that's only because I can't seem to keep a job. I just can't stay focused on the trivial, meaningless jobs open to college students. Too boring.

    ^This.

Also, like I said earlier, many (I would say close to 75%) of these kids bragging haven't actually done anything. They're just trying to make themselves sound cool by lying, especially in the earlier grades (8th, 9th). The ones who are telling the truth are just attention-whores.

I've heard a lot about this kind of idea - moving farms into cities. It makes a great deal of practical sense, especially as the height our buildings can go gets higher and higher. I mean, why waste miles and miles of habitable land farming food the old-fashioned way, when you can get better production out of one skyscraper? That would also clear a bunch of land for industry, which, in the Midwest, at least, has already begun to encroach on farmland. We could basically triple our food output from one farm with only one city block of space (or less), if done right. And I am really happy about that design, too. Modern architecture has gotten so damn boring lately. And it's frikken everywhere. A while ago, you could go overseas, even to more developed areas, and see all sorts of exotic architecture. Not anymore. Everywhere looks exactly the same.

I swear, if I had money to donate to something, it would be this. Without question. I mean, cancer research, space flight, etc, those are all great, but things like this could save humanity (if it ever gets that bad).

I was just going to do mine in the normal KH style, with only a saturation enhancement. I don't really plan out every step of my videos before I make them. I just let them evolve naturally.

Is it OK if I use the widescreen settings for Youtube? (640x360)
    Would that mess anything up?

A nova doesn't create a black hole. A supernova does. Other than that, they're pretty similar, and they both result in the extinction of just about all life (if any) in a system.

EDIT: Oh, and a supernova can be found in telescopes thousands of years after it happens.

It's not big enough to supernova, but it'll nova, all right. It'll expand to about the orbit of Mars, and might engulf it (it might stop just short, though). Either way, Earth will melt like a snowflake in a nuclear explosion.

It helps me. It really does. And I recommend a wooden sword, not a real one by any means. I should have specified that, actually. Besides the danger to others, even if you have a blunt metal sword, trust me, you will break some bones. Wooden swords are fun, though.

I believe the Maya calender ends in 2012. I do NOT, however, believe that the whole world ends because of a piece of stone running out of numbers. There is not such thing as seeing the future, or prophecy. It will not happen. The world will end several billion years from now, when the sun goes nova and engulfs the earth at the end of it's lifespan.

Count me tentatively in. I don't know what's up with my Vegas right now - if I have any other programs up, it crawls. So, yes, I'll do it if I like the song and if my Vegas works well enough.

    EDIT: Song ideas:
Maybe Breaking Benjamin: Had Enough, Dance with the Devil, Evil Angel,
Maybe Skillet: Savior, The Last Night, Falling in the Black, Rebirthing,
Maybe Three Days Grace: Over and Over, Pain, Get Out Alive...

Or maybe none of the above. It's your choice. I'm just throwing out ideas.

Most shrinks are hacks. I got over my rage problems when I started teaching myself how to use a sword. I would still be pretty defenseless if I needed to use one, but it helps with rage, and it helps with exercise, if you work hard enough. Whenever my mom makes me too mad, I just go outside and work it off on an imaginary opponent. Anger actually makes me better. Punching bags also work, along with loud angry music.
