Nice. Anyways, no, I don't believe that science brainwashes anyone because, in the majority of cases, scientists back up their "beliefs" with proof, evidence, and research, whereas religions back up their beliefs with a being that cannot be proven in any way whatsoever (barring looking back in time and observing religious legend taking place (seeing Jesus walk on water, etc) - an extremely unlikely event) just "making it happen" in a way that is also undetectable. Now, I do admit, science, as a whole, is just as corrupt and self-centered as most human institutions. There have been incidents of manipulation of data, wishful thinking, rampant speculation and rumor, cover-ups (ignoring crucial data, not Roswell), etc. But that's true for almost every religion, also. Besides, most people who know the whole bloody history of religion just cannot believe in any loving god who perpetuates that. I know I can't.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Pink_Unicorn There. Have an open mind. Both of these have the same amount of legitimacy as god, except god is more entrenched and brainwashed into people. :D
I agree. I really do. We just don't really know enough about it to make any sort of assumptions about it's life patterns. Hell, someone in Africa could have another one of these things (or parts of one) without any of us knowing!
Or just a wide habitation range. Either way, this was 47 million years ago. Nothing looked the same as it does now. Possibly this thing migrated to Africa later in search of the right climate, or something similar. EDIT: Found a map: That's 55 million years ago, actually, but it's not too far off, given the time scale of geology.
Don't forget this part! yes, I know it's a lot more complex than that. Believe me, I know. I just wanted to wrap it up into one sentence, just for fun.
I'm saying that, if these books were to be found, they could be scientifically analyzed, tested, and checked. Statistically, the more sources, or the larger the sample, that correspond with each other, the more accurate the result. Therefore, if we had like 20 eye-witness accounts (of anything), all saying the same thing, from unrelated people, we can be fairly certain that said thing happened in some way. The more accounts, the more certain we are. I, however, am still holding out for some kind of time viewing, to see it first-hand. Unfortunately, even that would probably be able to be biased.
I think I love you. Since animals used in our foods are being grown for slaughter anyways, and have no other useful benefit to the earth (that the average person can see), we had better keep eating them, since the track record of humanity shows that if something's not useful, it's pretty much extinct.
At least you're honest about it. I have to hide it in informative and quasi-useful posts, much like the following. Give me a few more books, in their original forms (the original books), written by contemporaries of Jesus (or any other major biblical event), describing in great detail his life, then we can talk evidence. Things like that cna be analyzed and measured and assessed. One book translated literally over 9000 times is not proof, and neither is anything else yet presented. I'm starting to ramble, aren't I?
Evolutionary biologists care. Someone is going to make a career out of this thing, and any others like it that may be found. You would not believe how compartmentalized much of Anthropology is. And despite the overwhelming evidence, many people still suffer under the delusion that some invisible cosmic being just... wished the universe into being in 6006 BC. (yay for overgeneralizations!)
Yea, I saw this through archaeology.org's news page. Pretty amazing find, IMO, if it's all it's made out to be. I mean, it sounds good, but there's a lot of research, excavations, testing, dating, etc. to be done before it'll be fully accepted as proof of anything. Still, an amazing find. Particularly the preservation. I mean, 47 million years, and the food and fur is still visible? Awesome. Indeed, if all pans out. I do also like the name, honoring Darwin on the 150th anniversary of the "Origin". Nice touch, there.
That's assuming any gods exist at all. That is also assuming that the bible is to be taken literally. Both pretty frikken huge assumptions. I mean, the bible obviously has translation errors, context errors, and sheer exaggerations (from popes who wanted Christianity to look better to "heathens"), so IMO it cannot be taken in any kind of literal sense. And to just assume that any gods exist at all without hard proof, without hard evidence, just isn't sensible, in my opinion.
I meant "eat a vegetarian diet", but shorter. It sounded good to me...
I didn't really see anything of any value to the discussion in his post. So fine, he's not a troll this time, he's just a spammer. Either way, I was asking Pezz not to respond, not responding to him directly. Didn't know I would catch this much flak for it. Sorry about that.
He's a troll. He doesn't need to have a point. All he needs is the cheap giggles he gets from you. It's sad, really.
We wouldn't have the teeth we do if we were meant naturally to not eat meat (awkward phrasing FTW). If it were adaptive to go veg, we would have the teeth of a cow (or something close). We do not. We have the teeth of omnivores. Therefore, according to natural evolution, we are meant to eat meat as well. Besides, meat is sooo tasty! Sure, I mean, culturally, if you really want to eat vegetarian, then fine. You're just missing out on meat.
Everyone kept citing them as the source for their KH clips, and I came for them at first. Then I had a question, and thought, "hey, doesn't KH-Vids have a forum? They'll probably know a lot about (I forget the question now)." After a few months absence, I've been here ever since.
Dailymotion just rejected 3 of my videos for copyright. They're worse than screwtube about that. I just deleted my account. They don't deserve me if they aren't willing to accommodate their users. I mean, that's just bad business. If I learned one thing from my mother's job (programmer for Wachovia/Wells Fargo), it's that a company has to work with their users! Otherwise, they will fail.
Aaah... Oh, geez, my eyes hurt just thinking about it...
[SARCASM]Yay for religious fundamentalism![/SARCASM] My mom used to tell me (when I still listened to her advice) that rock music consisted solely of crude lyrics and cursing. As I listen to this, I am listening to a playlist on my computer consisting of nothing but rock, and nothing bad has happened to me. Tolerance: 1, fanaticism: 0. Seriously, religious fundamentalists need to get the f*ck over themselves. Let people live their lives, and sh*t like this won't happen, and you can avoid ridicule from people like me.
My brother is a senior. His graduation is in June, and he has no idea what he wants to do.
