To answer your question of why, He was set to all ready leave the show after being tapped as a consultant for President Obama. He was one of my favorite's on the show, but the fact that he didn't have any episodes 'dedicated' to furthering his story made him seem like a secondary character. By dedicated I mean like 13's huge stories, Taub's battle with cheating on his wife and money issues.
