It would be great if there was a cheat like the IV checker, but with EV's. You would do it the same way, but when you check their stats, it shows how many EV's they have in each stat, instead thier IV's.

Don't trust the manga with the story of the game. I've heard many times that the manga isn't canon, meaning it doesn't completely follow the true story. It's true that XH (Xehanort's Heartless) did create heartless with that symbol, but that doesn't mean everyone just turns into a shadow. Like that one dude in Traverse town at the begining. He turned into a Soldier. I think Sora just turned into a shadow, since they can't do much. It wouldn't make much sense if you played as say, a Stealth Sneak or a Defender or one of the stronger heartless. I don't really think it has much to do with the story, as it does with the actual gameplay. They make you into a Shadow so you can't do anything and you want to continue and be Sora again. If it was something that could do something, you might not want to continue the story for a long while.
