Yea, I heard about the faking of the "killed for god" story in one of my classes. It was apparently, among other things, a way for the mother to find some meaning in a meaningless death. That first kid sounds like your typical megalomaniac - "I'm better than all of you and one day, you will either bow to me or die". I never could understand how bullying could drive someone to mass-murder.
This is really the scientific definition of religion - an attempt to explain currently unexplainable phenomena, which would explain why all the major religions are thousands of years old - they all started before the age of science. I mean, if Jesus had lived (and I do believe there was a teacher named Jesus (or Iesu (Latin), or the Hebrew translation) in today's world, would he have gotten very far with his message? If people can already revive the dead (defibrillators, CPR), would raising a newly dead person be hailed a "miracle"? Many of his miracles would be called magicians parlor tricks. Now, if someone honestly believes that their religion is true, and it makes them a better person because of it, more power to them. If their religion tells them to go to war with "heretics" (crusades, jihads, other holy wars), then their religion is wrong, IMO.
You know, maybe restoration of their hearts is what the rest of OrgXIII wanted, but I think Xemnas, like his counterparts, wanted more. I think it's entirely likely that, once he had what he wanted, he would not stop. Besides, the methods they used to obtain what they wanted can't exactly be called "good", either.
IF virus writers USE macs, wouldn't that be another point against them? I mean, I wouldn't want to be associated with a law-breaking element of society... :D In any case, I would only use a Mac often if I could also use a PC when I needed to/wanted to.
Hehe. I swear, my Spanish teacher a few years ago hated my guts. Maybe she had good reason - we were in a computer classroom (lots of computers on the desks), and I would mess around on one while she was teaching, lol. In any case, I barely got a C in that class, more from the difficulty of the subject than from my messing around.
Well, I'm not really a fan of plays (too low-budget/too few effects for me), but if I had to choose, I would say movie, because in a movie, not only can they do more and cut it better, but if you need to go to the bathroom, or get some food, or something like that, you can pause it. You can watch it whenever you want, over and over again, without buying additional tickets. You can skip a part you don't like. Plus, a bonus for me, you don't have to sit in a crowded theater filled with hundreds of people, any one of which can start doing something (talking on cell phone, flash pictures, etc) that can ruin the play, or distract the actors, or annoy you.
This. If you believe in something strongly enough, you can make your own hair fall out. It's not exactly proof to me. Also, and this is just my opinion and doesn't apply to all churches, sometimes the pastor/prayer leader/whatever you may have will plant someone in the crowd, especially in larger churches, that isn't really sick, but faking it, so when he is prayed over, he is "healed". This would have the effect of strengthening the belief of everyone there, and making the placebo effect that much stronger. Again, this is just my opinion, and my theory, please don't flame me for it.
PCs. Yes, they have viruses, but you gotta ask yourself - WHY are there no viruses for Macs? I am of the opinion that it's just not worth the trouble to try to shut down Macs. Not worth the time it would take to write the virus, simply because, for instance with the ones that control your comp, there has never been a Mac worth controlling. Yes, I have used both, and I VASTLY prefer PCs. I can use a Mac if I need to, but I would rather not. Besides, look at most of the major games made nowadays - yes some of them have Mac versions, but I have yet to see any mac versions for the vast majority of them. Plus my Sony Vegas wouldn't work on a Mac.
Yea, well, Muffin Man tried ti use it as a way to embarrass me, and I want to show him and everyone else that I don't even care. And I do...
True, but you don't want to let yourself REALLY go, or there will be medical consequences, such as the ones I mentioned above - joint and back problems, diabetes, etc. Trust me - you don't want to end up like that one person I saw in Discovery - he (i think it was a he) weighed like 700 lbs, and couldn't leave his room, or even his bed. He was being treated constantly for bed sores, had hosts of other medical problems, had to be cared for, bathed, changed, etc by family members, and if he ever did manage to stand up, they said his spine would collapse under the weight.
Give me some of your motivation. Please. I have tried no fewer than 5 times since Sophomore year in high school to lose weight, and every time I give up. Give me your resolve.
It's not your fault, it's the media's. They are the ones who popularized the term "obese", AND they were the ones who started using it out of it's medical context - there is a certain proportion of fat-to-muscle and weight-to-height that defines obesity, but the media are now using it to define anyone 15 lbs over what THEY deem "pretty".
I'm one of them. I get out of breath often, and have weird aches sometimes, but I weight 310 lbs, and I feel fine. I can do pretty much anything anyone else can, besides play sports, lol (but then, I don't want to).
First of all, there are certain health benefits to being healthy (whoda thunk it?), such as not getting out of breath as easily (I sometimes gasp for breath after walking cross-campus), less heart problems as you age, lower chance of diabetes, fewer back problems/leg problems/lung problems, and some other effects I don't remember. But that's just being healthy - a relatively normal weight for your height, and not eating pure junk. The media has taken it to heights unheard of a few decades ago. Now, in order to be "healthy", you seem to have to be anorexic and bulimic, as well as on a starvation diet coupled with thousands of dollars of plastic surgery. And even THEN, you will want your picture touched up with airbrushing to make your skin look better. All that is, by definition, UNhealthy. Starvation diets do absolutely nothing - the less you eat, the more your body turns into fat for the hungry times. Plastic surgery is fraught with hazards and complications. Bulimia can burn your throat with the stomach acid (dilute hydrochloric acid - one of the strongest in the world) that comes up in your barf sessions, and anorexia has it's own hazards which I forget at the moment. Small wonder these celebrities tend to die young. That's the media at work. Your friends see these scarecrow models and, being the impressionable youths that they probably are, take the media's word that these women are "beautiful". Most of these models will die before the age of 40 if they don't change.
Kids are going to do that anyways. Kids will always push boundaries, with EVERYTHING. All banning swearing in schools is going to do is give kids a lot more stress and a lot more depression, because, lets face it, if you don't come from a strict or religious home, you are going to swear (most likely), and once you do, you are going to get detention or something, and that's going to make you feel stressed and make you feel bad. That's not something schoolkids need, on top of all the inane drama that goes on between kids anyways.
I would LOVE to cash one in, especially anything over $5 million. Let's see... I would get a new computer (the highest-end gaming one I could find), get every game I've always wanted to get but couldn't afford, take an easier college load so I can stay longer (dorm life is SWEET) with less stress... Yea, I'd have fun with it. Unfortunately, my sense of honor would probably require me to at least make an effort to return it to it's owner. All I would end up doing, though, is standing up and shouting "DID ANYONE LOSE A LOTTO TICKET???", and when no one responds, well, I keep it.
Oh, I know Youtube is dying, but I have not been finding anywhere that has NEARLY the versatility that Youtube had, and in large part, still has. Besides, I'm really not looking forward to having to re-build my fan base on a whole new website. If you know of a place like Youtube, feel free to shout it out (yes, I already have videos here, and I hate Imeem, the only other place I know of).
There's also a difference between disrespect and goofing off/emphasizing words and phrases. Swearing does not have to be directed at anyone in particular.
Because students aren't always talking to teachers - what about in the hallways with friends, or at lunch, etc? Or even in the classrooms before class? Besides, if they limit swearing, what becomes of Free Speech?
It happened to me. I cussed out a football player. Not the smartest thing Ive ever done.
