I don't see it as logistics, I see it as order. As natural law - something we can see or study or measure. For instance, we can SEE evolution happening almost daily - in bacteria and viruses (see SARS virus, see AIDS, see the common cold mutating with every infection), in insects (fruit flies are heavily used in experiments of this nature), and to a smaller extent in nature - the Chimpanzees of Central Africa have developed a radical shift in thinking - they now shred the ends of sticks to almost double the amount of termites they can catch, thus in essence, creating tools. Of course, that's not to devalue your reasons for Atheism - truly, there is way too much suffering in the world for someone to be watching out for us. If there is a God, he's probably pissed at us to let such things happen.
I don't have to know you to know when you are trolling for sympathy and attention. I see it all the time. You think you're the first person to...
What did I ever do to you to deserve that message?
Yes. It does have to make sense, or my entire understanding of the universe and my entire education becomes meaningless - what is the point of learning something if a God can change it with the click of a finger. The Holocaust was logical - Hitler was insane. I'm not wasteing my life - I'm giving it the only meaning that matters. Answers.
No kidding. We are gonna kill the world long before any god does it, at the rate we're going.
The only "reasons" that applies to the universe are the laws of physics and psychology. We humans are responsible for everything we do, and there is NO ONE up there to shunt blame off to. The universe will unfold according to certain, immutable laws that govern the binding of atoms, the motion of planets and galaxies, and the operation of everything on this world. We humans have control of our minds, and we operate according to those laws. No higher force. And no, I don't care how cynical I sound.
There's a good reason for that... it IS bs. See above for my reasons.
My friend claims to be a practicing wiccan, but I think he's just attracted by the promises of magic. He's going through some weird times right now - he is getting back in touch with his (once) abusive parents, he is going through moving to a new house, and his foster mom doesn't trust him. I personally can tell you exactly why I am an Atheist - religion makes no logical sense to me. As I said in my Magic, Witchcraft and Religion class, "Religion is not logical". Religion, most of them if not all, makes claims about the origin of the world/the origin of man/life/morality/etc with no more explanation than "God (Gods/Goddess/etc) made it happen". I cannot conceive of a world wherein the only law that can be held true is an unknowable law of some far-off deity who may or may not be taking care of us (9/11, terrorists, plagues, disasters). I had a very emotional talk with my mom about his on the way home from college - I enjoy the challenge of discovery. If that is ever taken away from humanity (the Rapture/new earth of Christianity, where we will be able to do anything, basically), humanity will cease to exist. We lose everything we are.
The word *** is a word, an abbreviation of ******, and originally, before it attained it's homosexual meaning, meant a bundle of wood, usually to be burned. What matters is the connection the word implies. I interpret it as an adjective to describe something that is exceptionally stupid (as, no offense, homosexuality is, on a genetic standpoint - no offspring). Others may interpret it as homosexual, or a derogatory term for it. It's all relative.
Dreams are expressions of our subconscious minds, NOT prophesies. Probably you heard or subconsciously noticed your cat's pregnancy and that, combined with other elements - the old man (neighbor?), the murder (possibly from either a show/book/etc or a fragment of it that you saw or read) - all combined to form a dream that makes no logical sense in real life. Trust me. I've had TONS of weird dreams which were combined from different elements.
I had a similar recurring nightmare for a while. I would be running down a dark, foggy hallway with a bunch of other kids I knew but didn't recognize (as is common in dreams), with a dark figure chasing us. Once I realized that it meant nothing and ceased being spooked by it, it gradually went away. I would be having it every night, then once a week, once a month... etc. Eventually, it stopped coming. I did have a version of it a few months ago, but I was having a bunch of old dreams at the time for some reason, so... yeah.
It's NOT stupid, it's just following a pattern, a WORKING pattern, I might add, that is used in HUNDREDS of cities WORLDWIDE. There is nothing unsafe about it, and the small amount in it might just PREVENT some of the tooth decay from the tea, etc. ^Quoting myself for relevance.
Ouch, man, I feel for you. No matter who you are, if you're on this site, it's too damn early for your dad to die. I am not expecting my folks to die till I am at least 40. It's a damn shame that it had to happen now. Hope you can work through these feelings.
Ok, so there are documented cases. I guess they didn't attract much national/international attention. Still, no mention of fluoride poisoning.
All right then. I'm kinda bad at reading tone of voice and intent in text.
Well, fine, so it takes a lot less water than I thought to kill. Even so, it wasn't fluoride that killed her, it was a foolish, hare-brained diet. I have felt that solid feeling in my stomach mentioned in the article before, and when it happens, I, like most other normal, rational people, stop drinking.
Wow. I always knew most of the officials in the Catholic Church were insane, but... Wow. You know, it's kind of ironic... Back when there were all those priest/child molestations, the church basically gave them a slap on the hand (as far as I heard), and yet, with something totally unrelated to them, and in fact out of their jurisdiction, they excommunicate everyone related? As I said, insane.
It was really fun. Totally worth it.
Exactly! They put a stop to the unfair practice of merchanters drowning out other buyers to get something at an obscenely low price and then...
Seriously? Are you THAT paranoid? There is a quote by an early scientist: "Everything is poisonous, and yet there is nothing poisonous. Only the dose makes a thing poisonous". There is so little of the stuff in the water that even if you drank 10 gallons of it, you wouldn't die (unless, of course, 10 gallons of water makes you die even without the fluoride - water can kill you if an insane amount is ingested, but I have yet to hear of a single documented case of it). I drink more water than anyone I know - I am almost constantly drinking water, drinking flavored water, or chewing on ice - all with fluorine in it - and guess what? I'm not dead. Ill make it easy to understand: Fluoride... In... Water... Is... Not... Poisonous!
