It wouldn't even BE a crisis if people didn't panic! People need to spend normally, companies need to hire normally, and banks need to lend normally. If ANY one of those parts starts something different, the whole system panics. If no one panics, nothing breaks down.

^Translation: "I wanna use pot whenever I want"

Not a constructive Discussion post. Try adding some support. Why do you want it legalized? How are you going to placate all the people (like me) who think this is the worst idea in the long sad history of bad ideas? Etc. We need content, not yes-men.

How many people actually obey the drunk driving laws? A surprisingly low percentage. Probably still the majority, but a lot less people than you think actually don't drive after drinking. They'll say "well, I've only has 1 drink, I'm good to drive". These same people, or people like them, will now be able to legally smoke. I smell disaster in that scenario. I, personally, would be scared out of my wits to be on the road with legalized marijuana, because I live in a college town, where, stereotype or not, drugs are more common.

And actually, 1/5 is a pretty high number. That's 20% of ALL reckless drivers. Another ~20% will be drunk, more will be illegally driving (revoked license or never had one), etc etc.

Pot tends to make people lose control - it makes you hallucinate. Try driving high. Go ahead. Try. I guarantee you you will wreck. The only question is, who will you kill when you do. All illegal drugs are many times more addictive than alcohol and tobacco. That's why they are illegal. If they weren't, death rates and injury rates would skyrocket.

Nah, I kinda agree with you about abortion - like that 9 year old who was abused and then excommunicated when she got an abortion - she would not have survived the twins she was carrying. In most cases, rape victims should have the right to abort. I really can't see any other cases where it would be allowed - all other unwanted pregnancies are a result of stupid sex (unsafe sex) or malfunctioning equipment.

Human beings wrote the Bible, too. And they translated it from Greek into half a hundred other languages. It doesn't necessarily mean they were telling the truth. Look at the Mormons - most other Christians hate them for editing the Bible, yet that's what happened every time a new book was added in the first century AD. There are DOZENS of typos in the bible that RADICALLY change the meanings of certain passages. For instance, it has been suggested that the original word for Mary was not Virgin (never had sex), but Maiden (young). If it was maiden, she could have had sex and kept the title - it was common in those days.

Also, it has been PROVEN that he Israelites did not walk across the Red Sea, but the Reed Sea, which was a swampy little marshland on the Mediterranean coast, and when the volcano that is now Santorini exploded, it created a tidal wave which would have emptied the Reed Sea, and them flooded it. A perfectly natural explanation, made supernatural through a typo.

    Dreams

That was just an example, a secondary point, not important. What I was trying to say, was that, I have had that happen to me, and what happened was, in my dream, I was walking down a sidewalk and tripped, or I stumbled on a curb, or any number of things depending on the dream I was having when it happened. It had nothing to do with my soul, and your mother is wrong. It is a perfectly natural reaction to an event in a dream. Nothing supernatural about it.

Thank you! Come on, God! Do a miracle!

Or better yet, Rainbow Monkey, show us some proof that what the Bible says is true! Something from another, contemporary source. One book is not proof. I can write in a holy book that the sky is green and claim to have visions from the serpent overlords of the universe, but that doesn't mean I'm telling the truth.

No, no, no, no, wrong. What that is, is the after effect of a dream that you usually can't remember, and your brain makes your body jerk in response to what was in the dream. I remember a fragment of one of those - I was walking down a sidewalk and tripped just as I woke up, so my brain started to make my body react to the trip - arms outstretched, eyes clench, etc. It stopped as soon as I woke up, making me jerk. No mystical magical explanations there. And yes, that explanation was magical. Think about this - anything unexplainable, by definition, is magic. Therefore, all religious thoughts about God and his "works" are magic thoughts. So... according to you in a different post, isn't Christianity guilty of magic? And therefore evil?

Yours is not the only religion. Yours is not even the only good religion. Hell, yours is not even the only popular religion. You have NO right to foist it off on all of us. I will continue to believe in my "sinful" Atheism, no matter what you say, because you have NO compelling evidence for it. Come on, God! Show me something! Awww, nothing? Wow, what a shock. And yet, every time scientists have the funding or inspiration to tackle a problem, we always solve it. The origin of Man, about 6 million years ago in Africa. The origin of the Solar System from a disc of swirling gas, about 4-5 billion years ago. The origin of the Universe, from the Big Bang, over 12 billion years ago. The "apocalypse" - the Sun going nova, about 4 billion years from now, engulfing the inner planets in a fiery inferno. Evolution (see above quote).

EVERYTHING science puts it's hand to, it solves. NOTHING (except for the historical facts - the Roman Empire, etc) in the Bible has been proven. Find the Ark of the Covanent! Find the Cross (not those fakes the Catholic Church has)! Find the tomb of Christ! Find the containers that held the transfigured wine! NONE OF IT HAPPENED!

See, I can preach my religion, too! How do you feel about it? About the same as I feel when I hear someone preaching to me! Learn to be tolerant! Live nad let live! I may not believe in magic and witchcraft, but I let others believe it if they want to. Hell, my best friend is a Wiccan! I could care less! Whenever he brings it up, I just nod and agree, and move on. It's really not worth getting into an argument about.

I swear, organized religions are so intolerant, it should be illegal. so, God tells you to teach your religion? Amendment 1 of the US Constitution! Freedom Of Religion - we are free to believe what we want, and NO ONE can force us to believe something else. If we don't want to hear it, you can't force it down our throats.

And witches. But, in any case, my point is that language evolves, it has evolved in the past, and now the word *** has evolved again to lose most of it's homo meaning, in certain contexts, and just mean "exceptionally stupid" or "exceptionally stupid people/person".

I say that everything that addictive should be banned - including things like alcohol and cigarettes. Heck, I wouldn't mind it if COFFEE got outlawed, but I KNOW that'll never happen. I just hate the smell. North Carolina has a bill before the government that'll ban all smoking in public places and most businesses, leaving it only allowed in homes and certain designated businesses - that was LONG overdue. Everywhere I go, I seem to see at least 20 cigarette butts on the ground per square foot. Those things don't degrade, people! Our society is out of control with regards to addictive substances. We don't need to legalize yet ANOTHER one.

Atheism is very much a religion, in the sense that a religion is a lifestyle choice. Atheism is a way of living that, for me at least, relies on science to answer the "unanswerable" questions, which, I might add, it does quite often.

My Atheistic (notice the capitalization) life choice is as valid and all-encompassing and makes more sense than any "religion" I've ever studied (and I have taken a World Religions course, covering most major religions, and a Magic, Witchcraft, and Religion course, covering many minor ones and the concept of religion).

Now, to answer the original question, I chose my religion, Atheism, because it offers the best chance to understand this universe in a way applicable to human beings. Atheism also suffers far less of the handicaps of organized religion - intolerance, scientific blindness, and over-rigid morals.

If you've had like... massive burns to most of your body, or *ahem*if your breasts are giving you back problems *ahem*, or similar, I can see you getting it, but for like facelifts/botox/etc to try to "turn back time" - very bad idea. It is still surgery, thngs can still go wrong, and it makes you look VERY shallow. If someone truly likes you (you in general, not specifically the OP), they don't need you to change yourself.
