You're thinking of dialysis, i think. Where the liver stops working?

And I feel for you with your cousin. My brother was born perfectly normal, but at age 3 (after he had already started to talk, somewhat), he was given all the shots (that he was supposed to have gotten spread out) all at once - and they had mercury in them. Usually, it wouldn't have been enough to matter, but with the concentration of shots, he developed severe autism not long afterwards, stopped talking, and withdrew completely. Now, he is 14, and after years and about 20,000 dollars, he is functioning at an academic 8th-grade level (normal), and about a 5th-grade social level. He is almost fully recovered, but for a long time, my brother (second-born) and I lived almost without a mother as she was tending to my baby brother for years. The original doctor we took him to told us to keep him (my autistic brother) happy and secure, and that he'll never talk again. I am strongly advocating that he walk up to her and tell her why she was wrong.

Mickey, just let him know that, throughout the history of militaries, the US military included, there has been so much gayness it's laughable! Most of the military forces around the world before 1900 have had almost 50% of soldiers, from officers to conscripts, taking sexual "ease" wherever they could, mostly on fellow (all male) soldiers or (regrettably) on civilians of newly-captured cities. In fact a huge number of British and American officers from these time periods regularly had affairs with their assistants.

And videogamecrazyman, to be blunt, your dad is an abusive SOB, and your mom is probably an enabler. If you weren't around (were never born), he would have abused here. No one acts like that to just one specific person. Usually it's a target of opportunity.

Just... don't take "one last smoke". It'll turn into another and another. I helped a friend quit, though he wasn't as bad as you :D, and he said that advice helped him the most.

Do you live in the US? If so, if you ever feel like it, most government buildings are designated as safe places for (mostly) abused family members can go to for help - hospitals, courthouses, police and fire stations, etc. As the saying goes "god helps those that help themselves". I don't know the origin of that phrase, but taken in this context, it would seem to apply. Besides, from what you've said, it sounds like your father is not the type to hunt you down if you run away. It may be for the best

If your not in the US, then I have no idea and my advice about running away probably doesn't apply.

The best way I can think of is to request the help of everyone you know to watch you at all times and, if you cannot MAKE yourself stop, make them do something to remind you. For instance, a friend sees you light up, and they should then remind you of your goal, and if you say screw it, then they forcibly take the cigarette from you and grind the box under their shoe. If your parents don't help, then try to stay out with friends as long as possible and hope to god (so to speak) you have the willpower to resist it at home. But, in your situation, the withdrawal is probably going to be hell. Just focus on the goal - living to be 100:D/not getting cancer.

No, she's technically not, because how do you control something with near-human intelligence? Chimps are nearly intelligent! They do not deserve to be trussed up in diapers and paraded around as a pet! they need to be left alone in their natural habitat!

I call Avatar an Anime simply because it's easier to describe it that way than to describe it as "an American show that is drawn in an anime style and has some of the same features of an anime, but has been toned down slightly for kids". I don't really give a f*ck if it's not, that is how I will describe it. Besides, so few people even know the difference, you would have to spend 10 minutes educating them on the differences before you even got to an explanation, at which point they would say "so... it's an anime?" or "so... it's an american anime?"

And I expect any minute now some butthurt politically correct person is gonna jumo on you for your use of the word "***", so... inb4PC

I totally agree. If anyone finds a way to prove the existence of God OR the existence of the Big Bang and evolution (both of which would seem to completely blow the Christian bible out of the water), I will hail them as the greatest thinker of all time. Until such time, I will continue to defend my belief system and explain it for the edification of anyone who cares to listen, even if they choose not to believe it, and I would expect nothing less from all the Christians on this site and in the world, in fact, as long as our belief-spouting is non-intrusive.

And CtR, occasionally, a strong faith in God CAN blind you to scientific evidence - hence the term "blind faith". Just look at all the Christians who refuse to even give evolution a fair hearing in their schools, just because it goes against a literal interpretation of the Bible, when most of the scientific evidence points to it. I remember my days in a Christian school (worst years of my life - somehow Christian kids are worse than Public School kids.), when it was taught to me in my science book that there were 2 views, except one was called a fact (creationism) and the other was a false theory that has been disproven (evolution). It claimed that evolution's prime concept was not that species change (the reality), but that humans randomly evolved from rocks (way to simplistic of a view). It then proceeded to mock the theory of evolution and praise creationism for the rest of the chapter. Not a fair hearing under anyone's standards.

Mmmm. Well, I was citing them as the ones that you hear the most about. If I mentioned some wierd little faith no one's ever heard about, like the one based on the "Matrix" movies, people would say "WTF" and ignore my post.

Well, congratulations! I pretty much jumped for joy when I found out I was accepted into AppState. I didn't apply as a freshman (2 years at Community College to get my associate's degree first), but I can tell you this: The internet will eat your free time alive if you let it. Also, to save money (if you need to), go to every free food event you can. Especially if you are on an on-campus meal plan.

And yes, unless you truly love teaching high school, I would not reccomend it. When I was there, some of the kids did... terrible things to the teacher. Mentally. There were times when the teacher of whatever class got so fed up they just went home for the day.

Never heard of him. But it seems to me that the last thing this country needs is another radio talk show spewing whatever party line the host follows that day. The electorate needs to be informed, yes, but they need to do it themselves, from all angles, not from one talk show, because no matter how much they claim to be unbiased, trust me, if they are liberal, they will worship the ground Obama walks on, and smash the Bush administration into the dust, and if they are conservative, it will be the opposite. I have seen it happen MANY times.

I agree. When religious people (specifically Mormons) start going DOOR TO DOOR, interrupting people's personal lives, to "spread the good word", I say it has gone too far. If any of them ever come to my door, I'll just slam it in their faces, because they have no right to do that. A man's (or woman's) house is his castle in this sense - his place of peace (or hers, if you want to look at it that way). WE should not have our lives interrupted by religion if we don't want it. It's different if they put it on tv, because you can choose not to watch. You can't choose the people that walk up to you on the street or ring your doorbell.

On an interesting note, it seems that the smaller and less significant the religion (cults, etc), the more they seem to advertise, specifically by word of mouth. I don't know, I could be wrong, but that's just what I see.

While I personally can't resort to violence, since my greatest weapon is to sit on someone (300 lbs and EXTREMELY out of shape), I do believe that people do have a right and responsibility to defend themselves and others who are too weak. However, always, ALWAYS, try to talk or mediate first. Violence is a final refuge. Not, as the saying goes, of the incompetent or the stupid, but of ANYONE. Fighting should always be a last resort, so my advice to anyone who may need to is to first brush up on your diplomatic skills, THEN your fighting skills.

    Quoted for relevancy:

I do not consider myself extreme, but I do find fault with organized religion's continued assertions that certain natural laws and facts are false (evolution, for one. The age of the universe, and countless other examples) without any kind of supporting evidence except a book written before the advent of scientific thought.

In spite of this, I will not go out and find Christian, Buddhist, what have you, meetings and loudly state the reasons why they are wrong, and most times, I will not even talk to someone about what I believe, because, IMO, religion and politics are the fastest way to destroy civility between people. I talk on here, of course, mostly (tbh) because there is no risk of physical harm from anyone on here, and no risk of lawsuits either, but aside from that, because it is entertaining in my free time to debate about things. I refer you to my earlier quote:

You Christians (or whatever religion) put your views on a public forum - expect them to be debated, picked apart, and reassembled for you.Same goes for any Atheists. You will notice I have not started a single thread in the Discussion forum, mostly because I have no desire to instigate conflict. If it starts, I would love to be in the middle of it, however.

And what is an AMV? Especially on WMM? Throwing some clips that someone else ripped off of someone else's game and using someone else's music to make videos that (and I have seen some of these) take about 15 minutes of your time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-OWSe6WbMw lol my second video - 15 minutes of editing time for 20 seconds of video). And even the best AMV ever is still none of your own effects, clips, programs, music (usually), etc. Hate to admit it, but the only thing we AMVers can claim is the arrangement of clips. That's why we are susceptible to copyright claims.

But that's OK, because we still have fun doing it. While slideshows are not generally the most skillful thing, they do take at least some technical knowledge to do well. Lighten up.

Rapists can't literally rip you part. It's virtually useless to attack an enraged ape. Once the adrenaline starts pumping in them, they get so strong, it's virtually impossible to kill them without shotguns. Regrettable as it is, she did the right thing.

Exactly. it's not as if she exhibited any REALLY racist sentiment... like (don't kill me, just an example) blacks belong in cotton fields, or some such. She DIDN'T say that or anything similar, she just made a stupid kid joke, which, no matter how unfairly famous she may be, she should still deserve to do. She deserves to live as a normal (what age is she? Teenager? preteen?) kid.
