Yeah, it's originally his running speed and weak jump that placed him in Low Tier, but with pros like Aniki and HDL representing on the international scene, I swear Link is far better than where he is in the tier currently. I personally don't play Link since projectile play isn't really my style to begin with, but I've had my fair share of tough Link opponents and find myself using Marth to counter a lot of the better ones out there.
You'd be amazed how fast Link can be if you move across the stage with empty SHFFLs and L-cancel every move you do. My friend Kevin is the Link, he lost this match because he was an idiot, but I'm noting his speed in this video, nothing else. Notice he will never dash across the stage; always hops to where he needs to go. In this video, Link misses only one L-cancel, I believe, at (-3:33), but everywhere else is stellar.
Nah: a) That was slowed down in AR. b) That was a stand-alone Link that wasn't being controlled by anyone. That wouldn't be possible if the Link was DI'ing properly, which I can assure you every good player will be doing. No good player would find themselves victim to that. c) That video's old :3 If that was a big issue, FD would've been banned ages ago, but it's still the most commonly played map in tourneys to date. As well, once again, that's Infinite Waveshine. I'm talking about Waveshine. They're crucially different. Waveshine is a single technique, Infinite waveshine is doing that same technique over and over again.
Nah, sorry if I came on a little strong; wasn't my intention. Two questions though, to slightly change topic: Who do you main in Melee? And please to enlighten me as to know you know how to beat Fox players. :3 Don't get me wrong, I've had my Fox ass-handed to me by many many different characters (local pro Luigis, Jigglypuffs, Captain Falcons, Peaches, etc), any Top-to-Middle tier character, I've mostly likely have gotten raped by at least once (exception: gotten raped by a few Links and a Kirby last March at a smashfest downtown <.<). Fox isn't invincible, just those guys were too skilled and had incredible mind games. =\
Eh? Not sure what kind of tourneys you play at, but waveshining is completely legal at all international tourneys and many of the tourneys around my area, both city and nationwide. Such international tourneys includes MLG and Jack Garden, and many more. As well, I think you're referring to infinite waveshine, which *would* be banned if it were possible on neutral maps, but fortunately enough, all international tourneys like MLG have banned stages where infinite waveshining is possible (i.e. Flat Zone, Yoshi's Island (Pipe), Icicle Mountain, etc). If you notice, all tourney-legal stages are picked to make infinite waveshining impossible to do. As a Fox player, I have to say: - 'Waveshining' is not cheap. The fact that it's one of the most difficult techniques to execute flawlessly at will merits the reason why it's a dangerous move and why many Fox/Falco players use it. If a move had to be 'cheap', it would have to a) easy to do b) easy to repeat, and c) inflict a lot of damage in a short period of time. The waveshine does none of these things: one, it's hard to do, even harder to master, and requires lots of practice before it can be applied effectively. - Infinite Waveshining is not possible to do on all characters. There are only a select few characters that can be waveshined infinitely, and some of those can pull out of it if they DI properly (Marth is one of these characters). - I mentioned "Infinite Waveshine" before, but 99% of the time it isn't used by players in tourneys. You mostly see infinite waveshines performed in friendlies because infinite waveshine (although very stylish and fancy) is completely pointless and not worth doing in real tourney matches. Once again, I think you're referring to "Infinite waveshine" because the waveshine has many many many applications that are commonplace among advanced Fox/Falco players: a) Waveshine --> Grab --> Up-throw --> U-air (Popular combo done on characters weak on the vertical recovery) b) Waveshine --> Upsmash (short but effective combo on vertically weak chars) c) Shine-turn around: shine-turn --> reverse wavedash (very quick way to edgehog if you're near the ledge) And many.. many more. As for Falco, *all* pro Falcos use/need the waveshine for pillaring (I pillar with jump-canceled shines instead, but that's because my Falco game is ghey). Bombsoldier from Japan and PCChris from the US are one of the top Falco players in the world, and *both* use waveshines religiously in their gameplay, and have done so over the past few years at MLG. Waveshine is not a banned technique, it's actually one of the stepping stones of becoming better Fox/Falco players. And if by chance you meant to refer to Infinite waveshine, don't worry about it being cheap--it's not even possible to do on tourney-legal stages.
I'll agree with Mewtwo being one of the worst, but Yoshi has far more potential than people give him/her/it credit for. Many Japanese Yoshi pros, namely Fumi, has been known to take out some of the pro Marths (both NA and JP) at MLG every year. Maybe not Ken, but many. Also bear in mind that Fumi has acomplished this even after considering Marth is top seed in the High Tier group, and Yoshi dwindling as top in the bottom tier. Safe to say Bowser is far worse than Yoshi--in almost ANY matchup. IMO, Yoshi > [Bowser/Pichu/Zelda] --- And just to say the record straight, you're only considered a 'pro' if you compete in tournaments at *minimum*, the city level and gross back at least 20% of your entrance fees at the end of the year. Lots of people try to say "you can be pro if you just join", but I've seen far too many unskilled players enter tourneys that were out of their league--now don't get wrong, I highly respect anyone who enters a tourney, but being a 'pro' just isn't simply joining tourneys, you have to rank in them too. If you just feel you're really good and thus think you're 'pro', and call yourself one, think again. Smash Bros has a really solid foundation on worldwide competition, so at the very least, you can call yourself a local pro after you rank in your city tourneys, which I'm sure many of you who haven't done so--will be very surprised about when you see just how many better players there are out there. And these are just locals. And about the 'think you're really good part', here's the rule of thumb: If you don't know what a wavedash or an L-cancel is: You are not a pro. You have a crap load of learning to do. Wavedash and L-cancel are the bread and butter of competitive smash. Learn it, live it, love it.
Yoshi fails somehow, from this. lol.
Not really, I saw at least one major difference from Melee; your statement is unsupported other than the fact that the 'move' itself is the same. What about knockback trajectory? Perfect example is with the clones from Melee: Link's running A would knock an enemy up and above Link, young Link's running A (which was exactly the same aesthetically) knocks an enemy up and away from him. Mario's down-tilt knocks an enemy directly up, whereas Dr. Mario's down-tilt knocks an enemy up and has a horizontal trajectory of the opposite direction that Dr. Mario's facing. My point? The moves may be the same, but how the attack hits an enemy and the specific knockback effect it has may be different--and thus the entire feel and combo-ability of the character may change altogether. So although Link's moves appear to be the same, it's not for certain that they will function and perform the same way they did in Melee. There's already one major change that perhaps you have failed to notice: The Gale Boomerang. In Melee, the boomerang would knock an enemy away from Link and the distance they would fly would be directly proportional to the % of the opponent at the time. The Gale Boomerang in Brawl pulls the enemy toward Link this time, not away. As well, since this move 'pulls' an enemy, I would think the damage an enemy receives may be negligible. This completely changes Link's boomerang in the sense that now the boomerang is more capable of being followed up with another attack (SHFFL'ed FAir sounds good). I have a feeling they realized the limited nature of the boomerang in Melee and decided to change it up to make it more useful. However, the only drawback now is that the boomerang can no longer be effectively used as an edgeguard if its knockback is the same no matter how you initiate it.
So I hear u liek mudkipz..
Shortage of Wiis for Brawl's release. Kinda makes you wonder what the lesson learned needs to be.
I suppose, although all of those titles--except for Mario Kart Wii--were announced publicly before the Wii was even launched. It was never Sakurai's intention to reinvent smash bros, you should know that. Brawl was founded on the desire to make Smash Bros a full-fledged online game. As well, considering that Sakurai originally intended Brawl to be played with the GC controllers--and the fact that he repeatedly said in his announcements that he wanted the feel of smash to be pretty much the same, that won't be the case if he changes the movesets of every single character in the roster. Why change the formula when it's working so well? When that happens, just keep adding onto it--which is exactly what Sakurai did when Brawl was proposed to aim for online gameplay, as well as the addition of new items and the final smash.
Xaldin, why are you posting my gameplay vids without my permission? .. lulz.
It was a demo I had to make back in high school, something musical theatre in nature--so I just picked a Disney clip. =\
Why do I hate the both of you? D:
But that's just utter failure. Any smash fan should've known that Brawl would be great (or expect it to be great). I blame the gamer who waited until now before thinking of getting a Wii for Brawl--given they could afford it back then. I understand that some people just can't afford a Wii right now (for whatever reason), but for those of you who *now* want the Wii because of recent Brawl information over the past few months: shame on you. I didn't need to have that much information said to me, I just got winded of the first few screenshots and a formal announcement and it's like "I'm sold, I'm getting a Wii".
I don't know why people are 'regretting buying PS3s and 360s' and 'wishing they bought a Wii now'. We've been winded about Smash Bros Brawl since before the Wii was released. It's not like this title just "came out of nowhere".
YAYYY I GOT IT RIGHT! XP I'm actually quite interested myself in that character. Pure Lulz.
