"I don't care what he told you to tell me," Edward began seriously, putting a hand against her cheek. "It doesn't matter; he can't hurt me, Hannah. Say what you will, I don't care, but I have knowledge he never will, and that's my advantage. I know you want to look after me and keep me safe, but please do that after I get rid of John... can you at least promise me that?"

"I won't," Edward smiled, and then stopped, putting a hand to his jaw. "It's fine... you can talk whenever you can. I'm not worried about John at all. He should be worried about me... and that hunter, as well, when the full moon comes around."

"I'm sure," Edward replied, not convinced. "About what, I wonder?"

"I tried to get rid of your John once and for all," Edward began, limping over to gingerly sit next to her. "Lestat stopped me, though... as you can see."

Edward grimaced again, looking at himself in the mirror. Half his forehad was swollen and purple, as was the opposite side of his jaw. The back of his head had a nasty bump on it, and his back didn't seem to want to stop bleeding slightly. When he heard Beatrice finish speaking, he stepped out of the bathroom, his hand on the wall to hold himself steady.

"Hi," he said weakly once more, trying to give Hannah a smile.

And what is that? Edward asked urgently, hearing Beatrice. You don't need to worry about his silly death threats. I know how to kill him, so he should be the one worried, remember? And you'll wake up soon, dear, he added. Tell Beatrice you want me to stay if you really do; she won't believe me.

Edward frowned, trying not to let his pain show through his thoughts. Well, you'll have to say it eventually, won't you? I'm beaten pretty badly, but I don't think Beatrice wants me taking the spare bed in here to rest... I'll go outside, I guess, but I can't go in Van Helsing's room.

Edward frowned. When can I talk to you, then? It's morning and we're leaving once the sun goes down again... as long as we're both up to moving by then...

"Thank you," Edward muttered to Beatrice, stepping into the bathroom and shutting the door. He tried to ignore the heavy smell of blood and grabbed the nearest towel, running it under the ice cold water. He winced as he ran it over his back and the back of his head, turning the white cloth pink before he'd even reached his face. The wounds had not begun to heal yet at all.

He put his hands on either side of the sink, breathing deeply. Hannah, he thought, trying his best to speak through whatever dream she was having. I don't know if you can really hear me or not, but please listen: tell me what John did... tell me why you lied to me, why you left... use your mind if you don't want Beatrice to know... while you're asleep you can hear me, but if you wake up, you're own your own.

"They're asleep," Edward pointed out. "I don't want to wake him and risk Van Helsing doing worse than Lestat."

Edward winced, feeling the back of his head. "I need to clean up," he sighed. "The bathroom inside... I'll only be a minute."

Edward laughed. "I tried," he replied. "I didn't even get to him... Lestat stopped me. Can I ask why you're guarding the door?"

Edward grimaced, pulling away from Lestat. "Get away from me, then," he snapped. He stepped away, back toward the town. "Stay away from me, and stay away from Hannah. I... I appreciate what you've done so far, but let us be for now."

He turned and headed slowly back toward the tavern, his back still bleeding. He held his forehead, the large bump on the back of his head tender as the one on his jaw. His vision was a little blurry, but he kept himself level, finally entereing the tavern and slowly going up the stairs. It took him a while to remember which way to turn, and he saw Beatrice in front of the door. He shook his head to clear the fog, ignoring the blood dripping between his fingers from the cut on his forehead.

"Hi," he said weakly, giving her a small smile.

Edward managed to stand, swaying and holding onto the tree for balance. "Why... should I trust you... when you beaten me half to death... twice now?"

Please, Lestat, Edward whispered, barely audible. He knew the vampire would be impressed by using his mind. If you won't let me kill him now, tell me what he did to her...

Edward growled, his head pounding, blood dripping down from cuts on his head, forehead, and mouth. "I can't wait till the full moon," he hissed. "Let me kill him... I trusted her, and..."

Edward ran as fast as he can once he exited the tavern, making sure he went around the back to avoid Hannah. He reached the woods quickly, his eyes immediately adjusting to the dark.

"John?" Edward snapped, standing and growling low in his throat. "You let her go? I..." He stopped, sighed, and ran a hand over his face and through his hair. "I will be back... don't to stop me."

Edward sat up when Beatrice entered. "Where did she go?" he asked immediately. "I could read her mind right now, but I'm giving her my trust and privacy. Tell me or I will look myself."
