"No, no," Edward insisted. "Not like that... it's just different. I don't feel as secure or controlled... I've never wanted to hurt anyone before when I'm like that. But this last month I did. I'll be fine. I don't want you to feel bad."
"I'll be fine," Edward assured her. "Each moon as been the same for me since I was six, but ever since I met you, they've been different. It's not a bad thing, " he added quickly. "It's just harder for me to know what to expect."
"That's fine," Edward said, trying to smile. "I have no problem with you going out with them... I can get used to it. But me every four weeks is different, you must realize that."
"Alright, I won't," Edward sighed, a little hurt, moving away from her slightly. The carriage was rocking and bumping around on the road now, and he smack the roof of the carriage with his fist. "Wake up, you idiot!" Edward yelled. "Don't kill us yet!"
"I don't know," Edward sighed, putting his arm around her shoulder. "It depends how bad it gets... I want to try to stay close."
"That's fine," Edward replied. "I can wait. You know," he began, wanting to voice something that was on his mind. "The full moon is coming around again... in less than a week now."
"That's too bad," Edward said, frowning slightly.
"I think I am, too," Edward smiled. "What are you going to do about it?"
"I'll go easy on you," Edward replied innocently. "I promise."
"Oh, please do," Edward said softly, running his hands through her hair and kissing her through a smile. "I don't mind."
Edward smiled, wrapping his arms tightly around her. "That's better," he laughed. "I told you laughing was a better idea."
Edward laughed himself. "I don't know," he chuckled, grabbing her suddenly around the waist, tickling her. "This should make you laugh!"
"I don't think so," Edward smiled. "Although you could laugh a little more. You're even more beautiful when you laugh and I don't think that's often enough."
"Now you're the one being funny," Edward sighed. "I'm here and I love you. I have always loved you. I will always love you. As long as you want me, I'll be here."
"Alright, love, I understand," Edward replied, his smile fading. "Don't worry, though. Once I get rid of John, you won't have to worry about him to doing something like that again."
Edward couldn't swallow his smile. "I was trying to joke," he said quietly, kissing her cheek. "To make you laugh, silly."
Edward chuckled under his breath. "That's something I wouldn't mind," he muttered with a smile.
"Really?" Edward asked, still not convinced. "I think you're just trying to be brave and get me to leave you alone."
"Alright," Edward said reluctantly. "If you think there's nothing I can do... Lestat won't listen to me right now anyway."
"What can I do to help?" Edward asked again. "I know he's bothering you."
