As a developer, Square Enix is awful now. As a publisher, they're amazing.

After playing the game for while, I have to agree with you. Demon's Souls had a better atmosphere and the level design is leagues better. Demon's Souls had some amazing level design, and Dark Souls is just okay. The places you go to are great, but the actual design is mediocre for 90% of the game so far.
