If I'm not mistaken, what you're connecting to is not the server host, only what the actual site server uses as an IP. The term, if memory serves me right, is VPN. The server is located in Canada (iirc), while 209.236.228.180 is located in Lake Geneva, WI. It's all a safety precaution.

Actually, I doubt it in this case. Have you given yourself op? (Admin) If not, you have to either write in the console op yournick or /op yournick or the better option is to shut down the minecraft_server.jar application and edit the textfile called "ops" In the "ops" file, just add your Minecraft, and you're good to go.
