Exactly the joke I've been making since this game was first announced. Daisoujou in a game with permadeath? Are you INSANE, people?

Still, thematically speaking, I'd be interested to see how the two worlds collide. SMT tends to mix past, present and future in its settings, whereas (as far as I know) Fire Emblem is strictly medieval fantasy. Will the FE characters feel out-of-date? Or will the demons fit right in alongside the dragons and... and dragons... Ok I haven't played that much Fire Emblem I just know there are a lot of dragons

Speaking as one of the harshest critics I know of 2D-3D conversion, why does everyone always say the 3D games look worse? They don't look worse; just different. It's a totally different aesthetic. As far as I can see from those gif comparisons, what YI3DS lacks in detail, it makes up for in depth of field; and it only trades sharpness for smoothness, neither of which are more than personal preference. That, and I am surprised to see that the 3DS version seems to retain the tight, precise movements of the original, a rarity in such conversions.

Taking the matter into your own hands was hasty. If you'd been able to convince him to confess whatever he'd done, that would be ideal. Sadly, that is not always possible. I would say at the very least you should've warned him that you couldn't keep it a secret, and that it was going to bite him in the end. But what's done is done, and you had the best of intentions. At any rate, his reaction was far worse. You held him accountable because you're his friend, not in spite of it, am I right? You wouldn't want your friend to fall into bad habits, or to hurt someone. Well, his response was to hurt you. That's unfair. It always stings to think you might be losing a friend, but you definitely shouldn't feel guilty. He has as much to apologize for, and more.

All that said, if he's still willing to talk to you and allow you to comfort him, don't call him lost yet. Give it time, let him cool down and find a good opportunity to talk to him. If you agree that you were hasty, then you can apologize for that, but if you still think he did wrong, then stand firm. Don't compromise just to keep a friend. Because that's a slippery slope, and it may lead to him becoming someone you don't want to be friends with anymore. Just try not to rush things; nobody's going anywhere in a hurry. Let it all come out as naturally and as calmly as you can manage.

Hardcore speculation rn, but maybe it's like when Zuko lost his firebending after joining the Avatar. Like... you can't make a dark corridor if the dark doesn't have a hold on you, or if you're afraid to, or something like that. Like maybe it's an emotional thing, and not just to do with your affinity. I'unno. Just throwin' it out there.

No, that's definitely what happened. But that's also kinda what I'm getting at. It doesn't make sense because Nomura changed his mind. It makes plenty of sense on paper: Seekernort was dumb and made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes. But no one ever said that outright in the story; they just said "Oh yeah no that's actually the DtD jk lol." And the way it was hyped up in the first game makes it more difficult to rationalize.

Digressing a fair bit, but this is why I like the way the plot was handled in KH3D. In Birth by Sleep, Master Xehanort literally goes, "Here's the one and only correct way to create a X-blade. Buuuut I like this way better." When he reappears in 3D, he openly admits that he acted rashly and lost sight of the correct way towards his goal. Putting that out in the open makes it much easier to understand: Plain and simple, he goofed. I wish they had at least tried to do that with any of the other mistakes made in trying to reach Kingdom Hearts, but... c'est la vie. Again, they wouldn't have been mistakes to Nomura, he just kept changing his damn mind.
I still consider that representation of it in KHI to be a candidate, because door to darkness it may have been, but we've also been told repeatedly that the true light is hiding somewhere in the deepest darkness. So it could be both at once.

This is getting hard to watch

The bottom line is it was an awkward joke and everyone's taking it way too literally

Nomura's been fumbling the ball since the first game, and his strategy of only thinking a few games ahead is a pretty clear indicator of why that is. When you're writing a series, you write the whole thing at once, period. If you don't, the pieces don't fit; overarching themes are juggled or outright tossed aside, disproportionate numbers of characters from any one installment may get more of the spotlight than they really should, and the plot becomes hard to handle. That said, if you asked me 3D picked the ball back up and ran it straight to the goal. It responded to all those themes, characters, and dangling plot threads in a way that made them look as if they're all telling the same story. 'Bout time, too; KHIII needed something solid to back it up. II definitely was not that something solid, Days and BbS were good but also prequels, Coded is hardly worth the mention, and all the others were just ports.

Ok, nice. I can dig it. Although the fact that some of those are labeled as Days Keyblades makes me chuckle. Yup, whenever Roxas was in a tight spot, he'd fall back on good old Star Seeker.

...I mean, Mickey could use it in Days, yeah, but he was a frigging bonus character.

Looks like some of those are good for trophies? Unless the guy got something random at the same time. Hopefully it's the latter, especially if you're relying on RNG for your drops. Don't make me grind it out in Re:CoM, of all things...

If anything, I'm inclined not to believe it's shaped like a heart, despite the name. It was originally the source of all light, right? Maybe it has no form to speak of at all. Just a big ball of shiny out there in the abyss.

Meh. Honestly, it could be anything we've seen thus far and been told that is Kingdom Hearts. I'm sure Nomura's idea of what it looks like has changed dramatically over the years. Otherwise he wouldn't keep switching it up. I still think it looked best as a big white door in a void.

I wanna see a built-to-scale Darkside figure. ...Although I guess that'd be a statue at that point.

I dunno. They're cute, but "fully pose-able" has always been a strict prerequisite of mine. Could just be me.

We three need to battle intermittently on our journey, to see whose is the best starter. I propose after 1st gym, after 3rd gym, after 7th gym, and after E4.

In fact, we need to set everyone up in trios. We can use this thread as a hub! Nova shut up that's a dumb idea

Chespin's cute and all but it kinda looks like a Normal type cosplaying a Grass type. Although, really I'm just getting a fire type because my roomie's getting the frog (I'm not trying to harsh his vibe, it's just been a while since we've had different clear picks for starters) and there's no WAY it'll be slash-fighting again.

    ...R-right

Nah man, thas that retro feel. You can't mess with that.

It looks nice. I mean, it kinda looks like it has a gauge on the back of its head, but otherwise it's all right. Somebody mentioned it kind of cheapens the classic Mewtwo to have a more powerful forme all of a sudden, and I think I'm in that camp; I always admired the original Mewtwo for hanging tough through every generation's metagame. I hope this one isn't a straight stat improvement, or at least has a more limiting moveset, or... something.

Did we already discuss who's getting which starter? Because I'm totally getting Fennekin.
