Uh, I dunno about you, but if I end up watching/liking the show, I'm not calling myself a Brony. Nobody I know uses that to refer to themselves positively.

But that's not what we were talking about. We were talking about who was most romantic.

Yes, but Water/Fighting is a much less common type coverage combo than either of those with Rock or Ground, and Fire/Steel is also neutral to Stealth Rock.

Actually, that would be hit neutral by Dark and Ghost. Kind of a moot point though.

Nobody uses Gravity. Fire/Dark is weak to Stealth Rock and can be pounded by Earthquake outright.

Might have overdone it a bit, but it's an interesting read.

My hypothesis boils down to there being a single universe, and a single (or one extra in the case of IX) world where all the games take place; they're just in totally different time periods. It makes sense considering that the games share common deities, combat systems, and technology, which are conceivable carry-overs no matter how large the generation gap. Add to it the fact that such destructive forces are at work in each game, no less under the control of ordinary people, and it's easy to imagine that entire civilizations could be wiped out and replaced with the next generation, or one like it. This might account for different technological focus between the games, e.g. the similar-yet-different fantasy/sci-fi settings of Final Fantasies VII and VIII. As for the different religions and technical terms... Well, those change between generations in the real world. No reason to believe they couldn't do the same for FF. The only exception in this would be the Ivalice series, although that was quickly established as a fantasy world regardless. That is, a fantasy within a fantasy (potentially; or maybe just a totally different fantasy).

Is it bad that I want to see this eventually turn into a dystopian "rise of the robots" type of story? I think mainstream fiction is training me...

Stellar stuff though, I gotta say. I was reluctant to pick up Heavy Rain due to lukewarm reviews, but I guess I need to keep an eye on the developer regardless. Think they're missing a serious opportunity in not following up on this demo, though... But who knows, maybe a petition or two will convince them to line it up for future development.

Some characters have more to them than personality or image. People tend to forget that a large part of what separates games from other media is their interactivity, and the best developers have it first in their mind to deliver an enjoyable experience for the player. In the simpler days, it wasn't as feasible to craft a compelling narrative--or, at least, not in the same ways. The Super Mario series took off because it was a fun and addicting platformer, and it paved the way for whole genres to emerge in its wake using a few simple formulas.

Mario represents that in its entirety. He's synonymous with the brand, and he grows and transforms with the games in which he appears; from his more instrumental roles as the dude who jumps over pits, to the more involved appearances in Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and so on. Compare him to a sports icon, or more flatteringly to V from V for Vendetta, whose personality does shine through a tad, but who relies most of all on the idea he represents. For generations of people, Mario isn't just a plumber with a studly mustache; he's the very embodiment of fun and entertainment.

Dona's eyes snapped open. He didn't know when he had gone to sleep. He sat up, and then realization flooded in and then he was a shadow, skirting across the floor hearing his wife stir behind him, he began to piece it together and was out the door, fleeting through hallways and now everyone was asleep, save the shadow, deeper into the manor the shadow bulging upwards into the shape of a man, a smiling man, an excited man, knowing his ploy had worked, stalling them, turning them sluggish, pushing the clock ever forward, and him grinning, grinning until his lips cut through to his ears vicious toothy grinning she's getting impatient and the shadow became man or like man and brushed back its hair and chuckled hoarsely hungrily it will work this time he had to be the first one there first one to the cauldron first one to prepare the broth I'll set a new record first one to break her and the only one to eat her I will be free the dungeon calling him showing him the way the devils and wicked things bowing stepping back bowing to their king the faerie king so close to being crowned I WILL BE FREE

    IT IS TIME.

Right, so, overdue for an update bump.

Work is progressing smoothly! I've been knocking out a lot of the technical stuff so far, and in the next week I hope to start posting rules, info about stats/quests, and so on. Keep an eye on the OP; I'm going to be adding most of the info there as I go.

As for the other announcement... I haven't heard from Jojo in a while. Tomorrow, I'm issuing a week's notice; if he hasn't checked in by the 17th, turned in his house map, and assured me he'll be active enough to participate, then I'll have to replace him. Saxima has already agreed to replace, so we're getting her ready in the meantime so we can get this show on the road ASAP no matter what happens.
