Comment: A while ago Forgotten Hymn asked me if I could still make cute and simple poems. To tell you the truth, I haven't really tried lately. But I did find some older poems which may fit that description more or less. While they might contain some imagery, there is no deep meaning to them at all. So yeah, kick back and enjoy (hopefully). 5 Heads Of The Chimaera Does she have beautiful eyes? Like shiny marbles, worthy of stealing? Then be quick, before they're ahead of you Before the difference between thief and loot fades out On second thought, don't covet them at all Does she have soft hair? The kind that travels all the way to no man's land? By the way, if you really think "reformation of the prison system" is gonna cut it, methinks you're naive as hell. It's worth a try though. Just don't expect it to perform miracles. To be honest he hit the nail on the head when I talked about "considering methods that are generally viewed as less humane". I've always laughed at the stupidity of the Americans (and other nations who use similar execution methods) prefering insanely expensive equipment because it looks less icky.

It's often best to split your work over a longer period and start studying early on than cramming it all in a few days. Even if your long-term memory isn't all that great, it'll probably placate your conscience. Use the last couple of days to repeat what you had studied earlier to be able to sleep without worries and take the examination with a head held high.

Which can be a good thing, or a bad thing. Keep in mind the nature of the people who are to be executed. Serial killers and rapists are the primary candidates. Compare the amount of people who still mourn for their deaths to the amount of people who are relieved that the threat is gone. May as well cancel eachother out. Also, compare to lifelong imprisonment. Sure, he's still alive. Sure, you can visit him (if he behaves at least), but he won't be home for Christmas. Whether you take him away partly or completely, the principle and the intentions are the same. No, an overly rational approach to society is not a perfect solution either ("All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"). Ideally there's a time and place for everything from keeping the gears of society in motion to recreation and social interaction. In this concept, however, there is no room for people who share so little affinity for either. Hence my stance on death penalty.
We have the right to lock people up and take their freedom though. What gives us that? What makes life any more sacred to you? I'll answer that for you: a gut feeling. Basing society's rules and regulations on these gut feelings, that is what I call barbaric.

Death penalty isn't a way to take revenge on criminals, it's to eliminate elements that are proven (cold hard facts needed) to be destructive and having little chance of improving. I won't go in-depth about what should be punished with death penalty and what shouldn't, but there are cases when it's commendable. From what I've read, many of you should learn that punishing the criminal is of inferior importance to the civilian's security. - Capital punishment annihilates chances of escape (personal experience; Belgian gangsters including our most hated child rapist have escaped from prison). - Capital punishment reduces the amount of occupied cells and keeps it at a lower level. Another important factor from Belgium's point of view: we've had to hire cells in The Netherlands to stuff our delinquents in (true story). Sadly, contrary to popular belief, death penalty is actually more expensive than keeping a prisoner alive until he dies of natural causes. If there were any way to cut back on the expenses that come with death penalty (yes, this includes considering methods that are generally viewed as "less humane") then I'm for it. Death penalty isn't outdated, it can be a step to a more rational future. Also, there is a big ****ing difference between acting upon the law (a consensual set of rules, or at least it should be) and your own views on right and wrong (which are completely personal). Thus, the "we wouldn't be any better" argument does not take the collective vs personal conscience difference into account, therefore it is invalid. To conclude I'd like to point out that capital punishment is perfectly compatible with other presented alternatives such as investigating and rooting out the causes of crime, the decrease of luxury in cells etc. There is no reason why these measures cannot be combined.
