You're right, all great empires follow a simple pattern. Small and peaceful beginnings produce an influential ruler who leads the empire on a wave of prosperity in science, philosophy, art, war, and politics. Soon after the ruler's death, the thrown is taken by incompetent and lowly rulers who ride along the coattails of the former ruler's glory, and the empire falls into ruin. This may happen with America. Except America isn't an empire, and today we live in something called the Age of Nationalism or age of Globalism, an age in which the whole world seems small, we're a planet, not a group of countries. In my opinion, competition and conquest between empires caused many to be great and many to fail, but there's no reason for that anymore in today's society, and if it were abolished completely and there were no countries, with one centralized world government, we might actually have an endless golden age. I'm very intriqued by this thread because I found myself asking this question a little over a year ago.
I agree, life would be better if drugs and such substances never existed. But they do, and we need to try and make the best out of a situation that has turned pretty bad.
Again, there's more people that die from alcoholism and cigarettes then any form of substance abuse. People die all the time, and if people who take drugs end up killing people, then they should be punished. But if they take drugs and nothing happens, then it should be fine. And I'd like to point out that you're only thinking of the drug underworld, where people are murdered in the name of money and substance, which would not exist if drugs were legal, such transactions would be wide out in the open and therefore there'd be no reason for such violence. I'm not saying I can be 100% sure that violence won't still happen, but if drugs were not viewed as something terrible, then those who's lives are fueled by drugs and drugs deals, wouldn't need to carry out terrible acts to get a fix or their money. Hell, stores might even open up selling drugs, like liquor stores or pharmacies. Imagine if marijuana and crack cocaine were sold and regulated by the government, legally. Would it be as bad?
They should, however, have the rights to be idiots. And when they fall due to their own stupidity, it's up to those still standing to pick them up.
There's more deaths a year from alcoholism then cocaine, marijuana, and LSD combined. Prohibiton was ended because people revolted that it was taking away their personal rights. Drugs aren't any different.
Drug dealers often end up in their positions due to circumstance and situation. The only reason that most black people in the "hood" do drugs or sell them is because it's socially accepted in their area, and drug dealing is often the only thing they can do to make a lot of money quickly to take care of expenses and make sure they themselves don't die. I'll be the first to admit that drugs can ruin lives, I have druggy friends, but legalizing them will allow people to take a step back, and try to fix the people who have been destroyed by drugs, instead of throwing them in jail for a stupid mistake. The whole point of freedom is allowing someone to do what they please, allowing people to make mistakes, to go down the wrong path if they want to. You can't stop people from doing drugs, it's impossible, but you can change the view of drugs, and turn it from something deplorable and disgusting into something that needs to be taken care of peacefully, not by force. The people that kill and die for drugs are the ones who need help, we should be helping them. The whole point I'm trying to get across here is that drugs are a fine thing, that people have turned into a bad thing. And it's not just the people who use them as a part of their daily routine, it's the people in charge who look down on the poor and the hungry and condemn them for something as stupid as substance abuse. And just to clarify, I made that list as a way to show all the freedoms we have and all the control we have over our bodies, if we have these freedoms, why not the freedom to take drugs?
Sorry, but bad political reputation does not exist for Christians. Christians rule most of the western world. According to a few members of the US government, Atheists shouldn't even be considered citizens of America. I'm sorry to be an ass but christians should never act like victims, or like they're the minority, they're not. If there's any Martyrs out there, it's the Jews, the Atheists, and more recently the Muslims, who have gained an extremely bad reputation recently due to the media coverage and biggot statements made by government officials and newscasters. I'm sorry, but just don't act like a victim, because you as a Christian never will be.

I might do it once or twice, however I haven't done it before. In my opinion we only live once, I'm willing to try it, but I won't be doing it routinely. Quite frankly I find it a little strange that people are so against it when as long as you take it in MODERATION, it's fine. There's really nothing to be afraid of if you have self control. Really, we all have the right to do whatever we want with our bodies, I think that should follow the trend with drugs. Either legalize them, or make pregnancy, alcohol, cigarettes, hairstyles, fashion choices, piercings, surgery, sex, masochism, tattooing, shaving, eating, breathing, movement, and photographs of yourself illegal as well. People should have the right to do what they want, and instead of treating addicts and dealers like criminals, we should be treating them like the sick individuals they are, they need help that we can give to them instead of punishing them for being reckless with their bodies.
