Aiyaaa... The English language is the great-great-great-great-great-grandchild of Germanic and Latin. Rules from both of these ancient languages naturally mix together and confuse things for modern speakers such as us. America was not only made up of British settlers, but also French, Spanish, and Dutch settlers way back when. Different regions of America have different dialects because of those different languages further mixing in the pool of American English. This notion stays true as even more immigrants from a bigger span of countries settle and crowd in one region of space in this country. Thus, we aren't "butchering" the English language, we are merely making a new language that borrows from all these different languages and cultures. It is "alive" because we are constantly growing, considering the fact that technically our language is one of the youngest in the world. Aaaaand that was my two cents. On topic, I'm still wondering why I'm here on this site since a certain sequel of a certain game hasn't been in production yet, even though certain hints and certain spin-offs point toward that direction.
