In the interviews, it has been said that there is a new system for in game play (although it stays true to the original kingdom hearts game and it succesor.) and a new system for leveling up. It has been said that this system could, in it self, be its own game. A more recent interview provides that the interviewer asked for a hint about this new system, the answer was : "Yasushi Kurosaw : …..The level up is like growing." Based on seeing current screens of terra, and his look in " Birth by Sleep" (Note: The KHII final mix video, not the game.) , I belive it is possible that the leveling system changes the charachters outward age and look. Terra looks much more matured in the final mix video, and it was stated that the video was something that took place at the end of the Birth by Sleep game. There are three possible out comes to my understanding: 1. From begining to end, this game takes place over the majority of the course of the ten years before the original game. 2. This could be what the result of leveling Terra up by certain aspects. 3. This is entirely coincidental and the designers decided to develop a differant outlook for Terra. I belive that its said that the key to the door to darkness are the seven princesses. In this exerpt you can see a short statment that will allow you to notice my point of view: "Maddy joins eight other Disney princess characters, who have generated $3 billion in global retail sales since 1999. Disney Princesses is the fastest-growing brand for the company’s Consumer Products division." Since this news has been released, im nearly positive that due to the extremly high production values of Kingdom hearts and other games from square, that Khlll most probably will be released about a year and a half or maybe two. Because of this the new princess maybe introduced in KHlll for a new plot twist, if not in KHllll. Althogh it is said Kairi is a princess, she has yet to make her debut as a publicly known princess, meaning there are in total "9" princesses. Again this allow for the increased depth of the plot line. (Kairi is already a protagonist that plays a high role in the game, but we can't include her in the disney princess line because of her semi-production by Square- Enix. But we can't rule her out based on the fact that the door to darkness is a Square creation. You can note the princesses shown in the original game as Sora enters the begining in the round arena that presents sora and his friends in KH2.
