Brothers Forever Chapter One The Past Is The Past A spiky haired brunette boy sat on his bed, looking at a picture. On the top of the golden frame there was silver printing which said, Sora and Roxas. On the bottom it said Brothers Forever. The picture was of two boys, a blonde and a brunette, who looked like a younger version of the older 16 year old sitting on the bed. “If we’re brothers forever why did you have to die, Roxas?” The brunette, Sora, asked thin air. Tears swelled in his blue eyes as sad memories filled his mind… Eleven Years Earlier Two young boys played happily on the shores of Destiny Islands one blonde and the other a brunette. Both had spiky hair, though the style was different. The brunette had longer spikes all over his head, while the blonde had smaller spikes with larger ones close to the front of his head. Both were wearing plain white T-shirts. The blond was wearing red shorts while the brunette was wearing navy blue. The two pairs of bright cerulean eyes were fixed on the sand castle they were building. “Hey Roxas,” Sora asked out of the blue looking at his play mate and brother, “I heard mommy and daddy yelling at each other last night. What do you think it was about?” Roxas thought for a second before replying, “A nymph probably stole something from the fridge again.” The two boys laughed at this thought, even though both knew it wasn’t entirely true, then continued the sand castle they were working on. Sora looked up at the sky, which was starting to turn dark blue. He nudged Roxas and pointed to the sky. Roxas nodded in response and the two boys got up. The twosome started for the Paopu Tree Island, hand and hand, unfortunately they would never get to their destination for their parents stopped them mid way. “Sora, Roxas. We need to talk to you.” Their mother stated calmly. The two’s hands dropped as they stared at their parents. The two adults put their hands on the twos backs and led them to the house. The two brothers looked at each other with confused looks on their faces. They sat at the wood table with their hands on their laps. The father of the two sat across from them while their mother paced back and fourth, trying to find the right words. “What’s wrong mommy?” Sora finally broke the silence looking at his mother who stopped pacing hearing his voice. The blonde woman sighed, knowing she’d have to tell them sooner or later. “We’re getting separated.” The father of the two blurted out. Both the boys knew what that meant. Their mom and dad would no longer live together, mean neither would the two friends. Their mother gave their father a angry glance. “N-no!” Roxas cried, tears starting to stream down his face. Sora managed to keep a straight expression, even though he was torn up inside. “Oh it’s okay baby!” The mother said, trying to be reassuring. It didn’t help. Roxas, being the younger of the two, didn’t want to hear this. “How can you say that?!” Sora screamed, he jumped out of his chair and ran to his room. Roxas soon followed him and the two parents were at a loss. Roxas found Sora sobbing on his pillow, he sat down on the bed. “It wasn’t the nymphs.” Sora sobbed lifting his head from the pillow and looked at his brother. Both knew why their parents had been having a lot of fights lately, why was beyond them. Now they knew. “YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO JUST BLURT IT OUT LIKE THAT! THEIR ONLY FIVE AND FOUR, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?” Their mother’s voice screeched loud and clear. This scared the boys. They knew that one of their parents legendary fights was about to start. “WELL WHAT ELSE WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?! SAY MOMMY AND DADDY AREN’T GOING TO LIVE TOGETHER ANYMORE!?” And so it began. The bickering could continue forever. In a event like this the boys would go over to a friends house just to get some sleep. “What are we going to do Sora?” Roxas asked looking at his big brother. Sora didn’t know, even though he was the older of the two, Roxas was more leader like. “I-I don’t know.” Sora stuttered. He sat up and the two brothers just sat as their mother and father exchanged words. Their father cursed, their mother cursed back. Both boys covered their ears, not wanting to hear anymore. Roxas was the first to move after covering their ears. The shouting still continued, and escalated at that. Roxas walked over to the bureau and took out two necklaces from the drawer. One was a silver chain necklace with a crown shaped charm on it, and the other was a silver string with a four pointed star charm on it. “What are those for?” Sora asked looking at his little brother. Roxas handed the crown shaped one to Sora and said, “I got this on for you when mom brought me out shopping. We can use these to remember each other!” ~*~ “Bye Sora.” Roxas said in a gloomy tone staring at his feet. Sora also stared at his feet with a depressed expression. “I’ll see you at you’re birthday!” Sora’s face lit up with the thought. Roxas’s birthday was coming up soon, but that only made the wait harder for Roxas. “Y-yeah.” Roxas said with a half hearted smile. Sora looked at the necklace Roxas had got for him. Both wore the necklaces proudly. It was awkward silence after that, while their mother and father worked ‘together’ to hoist Roxas and his mother’s bag into a ferry. “Come on Roxas, it’s almost time to go!” His mother beckoned. Roxas looked in her direction before looking back at his big brother. “I’ll miss you!” Sora cried giving his little brother a hug. Tears streamed down his face, and it was quite the sight for some passerby’s. “I’ll miss you too!” Roxas almost yelled, giving his brother a hug back. “Come on Roxas, we have to go!” His mother called, and the two let go of each other. Sora wiped some tears from his face and waved as his brother got on the ferry. It was the last time Sora saw his brother. ~*~ “Sora?” His father asked in a gentle tone opening the door. Sora looked up, he had been fiddling with his necklace. It had been a lonely few weeks with out his brother, not to mention quiet. There weren’t any other boys around Sora’s age on Destiny Islands, so he had a lot more time in on his hands. “Yeah dad?” His father sighed, Sora had gained a much more mature personality since Roxas left. His father guessed it was because Sora spent less time playing childishly on the beach… or doing anything. “I’m afraid we can’t go see Roxas tomorrow.” His father started. He didn’t dare look at Sora’s face. Sora eyes had grown wide, he missed his brother dearly and was very disappointed when he heard that. “What, Why?!” Sora yelled, tears began forming in his bright blue eyes. His father sighed again. “Because… Your brother is dead.” ~*~ Sora wiped a tear from his face, he was still staring at the picture. He placed the picture in its rightful place on his dresser. He got up and opened a drawer, there was nothing in it but the silver chain necklace his brother had got for him all those years ago. Sora hadn’t looked at it for years, but today was different for some reason. He lifted it out of the drawer and sat back on his bed. A knock on the door a few moments later interrupted Sora’s train of thought. “Hey Sora, can I come in?” Sora instantly recognized the voice instantly as Riku, his ‘room mate’. Riku sighed on the other side of the door and brushed some of his silvery white hair out of his face. He knew for a fact that bothering Sora was a very bad idea around this time of the year. Usually there would be a sign on Sora’s door saying “DO NOT DISTURB.” In bold letters, around this time of year it was, “DISTURB AND DIE.” But curiosity was probably about to kill the Riku, as no one was allowed in Sora’s room. If someone went in Sora would kill them, or try to. So must people respected his privacy and didn’t dare disturb the dangerous keybearer. Riku expected the hostile voice of Sora and him about to appear at the door way about to kill Riku. “Oh yeah, one minute I need to change.” Riku was dumbfounded and all most fell over when he heard that Sora wasn’t angry. Sora in the mean time slipped his white t-shirt off along with his blue short, this plain combination in memory of his brother, and put on his regular day cloths. Black baggy pants with bulgy red pockets with black strips in the shape of a X on them. A blue and red shirt with a black hooded over coat, silver plates on the shoulders protecting the wearer from any shoulder damage in battle. White rimed the sleeves and bottom of jacket along with the pockets on them. Sora also slipped the silver chained necklace over his head and let it hang from his neck. “What’s up?” Sora asked opening the door, to reveal his best friend wearing his normal attire, well most of it. He was wearing his normal sleeveless black zipper vest, which wasn’t zipped all the way revealing his belly button. His belt was black with squares of silver on it, it was holding up his purplish blue cargo pants. Lastly the cream ‘glove’ with out fingers and his white sneakers. “What do you mean ‘What’s up’? Everybody knows how you get all sulky this time of year! I should be the one asking what’s up!” Riku said as he burst through Sora’s door with Sora staring blankly at him. Riku, at the end of his little rant, noticed he was probably going to be the last person to ever to dare set foot in Sora’s room. He turned his head slightly to face Sora, to his amazement Sora didn’t look angry at all. Sora walked over to his bed and sat down with a heavy sigh. “I miss my brother.” He stated simply. “I didn’t know you had a brother.” Riku said sitting beside Sora on his bed. Sora sighed again and reached for the picture of him and his brother all those years ago and showed it to Riku. “This is why I never let anyone in my room. I didn’t want anyone to know.” Sora said while Riku inspected the picture. “Why the change of heart?” Riku asked a little curious of why he wasn’t about to die for disturbing Sora. “Dunno. I guess it just felt like it was time somebody else knew.” Sora replied thoughtfully with a shrug. Riku handed the picture back to Sora so he could put it in its respectful place. “Why didn’t you tell me, I’ve never even seen him around.” Riku inquired. A depressed look crossed Sora’s face and he sighed. “That’s because he died.” “Oh.” Was all Riku could say. He decided it was probably best not to further the subject anymore. “He died a little before you moved here Riku. Sometime later I asked my dad how he died. It turns out he was murdered by the Organization. My mom didn’t want a funeral for some unknown reason.” Sora said looking down. Riku felt awkward, apparently his not furthering the subject further was not working. “Come on, let’s get some training done before sun down.” Riku said jumping up. Both he and Sora enjoyed their daily fights, even if there was a chance one of them could injure the other. Sora looked up at Riku. “I guess the past is the past.” Sora said with a large smile on his face. Sora slipped on his black sneakers and walked out of his room. Riku rushed into his room and put on his sleeveless over jacket on, which was creamy white with blue and then yellow stripes at the bottom. He quickly ran back while Sora waited casually by the door. The apartment Riku and Sora shared was fairly clean, mostly thanks to Riku’s older sister Tara, decorated with a mix of blues reds and black. Sora’s room was probably the only part of the apartment that has any white in it. Riku’s room door was black, of course. “Sora, you know you can’t forget your past, right?” Riku asked suddenly as Sora reached for the door. He looked down and Riku couldn’t see his eyes anymore. “Yeah, but I can’t move on if I dwell on it either.” Sora replied, his hand on the gold door knob. Sora turned the door knob after a short period of silence, in which Riku was wishing he never disturbed Sora in the first place, and both went out the door. Sora was smiling and Riku was… being Riku. “Ooh Sora, Riku!” The two stopped dead in their tracks hearing the high pitched girl voice. Both slowly turned around with a looking as if the world was about to explode. A girl who looked roughly fourteen years old was waving her arms at them. She had pink hair with purple streaks in it that went down to her waist. She was wearing a pink halter top with a pink skirt decorated with white and purple flowers. Around her waist was a purple fanny pack with black zippers and belt fastener. Lastly she was wearing lavender sandals with a white flower on the strap. She had bright light purple eyes, and Sora and Riku weren’t happy about seeing them “Oh, Mimi…” Sora said with a fake smile on his face. Riku on the other hand just frowned and crossed his arms. “And to what displeasure do we owe this unpleasant visit?” Riku asked with a snort. Sora did his best not to laugh because he didn’t want Mimi to get hurt. “I was told to give Sora a message you idiot.” Mimi snapped with her nose a small centimeter from his nose. She leaned back and unzipped her fanny pack then took out a folded piece of paper and handed it to Sora. “What’s this?” Sora asked taking the note and inspecting it. “How should I know! I was only told to deliver it!” Mimi said shrugging. She leaned over and pecked Sora and the cheek, waved and ran in the other direction. Sora was stunned, he knew Mimi had a crush on him but what gave her the right to do that. “Kiss of death?” Riku asked looking at his stunned friend. Sora had a very blank expression on his face, with his wide blue eyes. Riku rolled his eyes and snapped his fingers in front of Sora’s face. Sora was instantly snapped out of his ‘trance’ and looked at Riku. “Huh? Oh yeah… Riku, am I going to die?” “Knowing her, you might. But then again Mimi does have a major crush on you, so I don’t think she’d let you die.” Riku inquired with a finger under his chin. Sora chuckled and looked at the note the Mimi had given him. Slowly he started unfolding it as Riku watched. ~*~ CLIFF HANGER And End of Chapter One. I have up to chapter three written and posted on Fanfiction.net.
