Van Helsing Renewed: The Ultimate Vampire Showdown

    Overview:
Welcome to the intensely anticipated vampire showdown of the century! This is kind of a re-camp of an old Van Helsing Roleplay that Garxena made back in 2008, but this time it’s a lot bigger and a lot more exciting!
The main focus of this thread will be characters from vampire-related shows (i.e. movies, books, animes, etc.) Everyone will be allowed ONE Original Character to keep the story going. We will start ASAP and continue until the battle we’ve got set up concludes. PM me or Garxena with any questions and we’ll be happy to help whoever is interested!

    Story:
From the journal of Gabriel Van Helsing, circa 1859:
“For the longest time there has been the constant battle between vampires and humans. If one takes into consideration all the other creatures of the underworld (werewolves, lycans, shape-shifters, and more) those unlike us are quite numerous. Every story, pieces of folklore, and legends have different rules for these beings, depending on their time period, race, and exact location. Yet now… they are all being called together to face their final, most powerful foe.â€

The Vatican has been researching vampires and all related beings for centuries, with Van Helsing, the infamous vampire-hunter, as their main tool in the process. Now, after all this time, the Holy Empire has found a tool that could end this battle once and for all. But, as we all know, churches are corrupt and have their own reasons for what they do. The real questions are:

    Is it worth the sacrifice?
What is really evil and therefore right or wrong?
What stance will you take and… what side will you end up on?

    Location and Time Period:
Transylvania and other parts of Europe. The thread starts in the late 1800’s.

    Rules:
    1. Follow the usual forum rules (including those SPECIFIC to the Extended RP Area.) That much is obvious since this thread will be posted there.

    2. Do not fight, god-mod, or harass anyone. I will destroy those that do not comply.

    3. Garxena is the co-founder of this Roleplay. If anyone has questions or anything else related to the thread, either of us can be asked at any time. Also, you don’t need to have read or seen the movies/books related to and/or used in this thread; I’ve made sufficient enough bios for every Canon character for people to know them well enough to Roleplay with them.

    4. Everyone is allowed ONE Original Character. This thread is not about OCs, but every Roleplayer can have one for the purpose of moving the thread along.

    5. Everyone must post on a part-time basis. This means you’ll need to post a decent paragraph (10 lines or more) 3-7+ times a week. If you cannot do this because of unforeseen circumstances, just let everyone know and we can work something out.

    6. Every post must have proper spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and complete ideas. It’s no use posting if others have a hard time understanding what you’re trying to say; it takes one out of character and the Roleplay itself, and I can’t have that happening.

    7. Please color-code your characters. I don’t mind what style you do this in (just spoken quotes in color, the entire paragraph, etc.) but make sure you stick to a chosen color so we can easily tell the difference between each post and multiple characters.

    8. If anyone cannot follow these rules in their full extent, you will be given one warning. If you do not listen, your characters will be destroyed and you will leave the Roleplay permanently. Fair enough, yes?

    Races:
    Vampires:
Vampires are ancient, immortal creatures that date back to Mesopotamian times. All stories tell different tales of their origins. They are usually nocturnal beings that live off of the blood of mortals, mostly humans. Most vampires choose to feed on people just to satisfy their hunger, not kill them. However, because of their immortality and the loneliness that can go along with it, vampires have evolved into very hateful, vindictive creatures that torture, mangle, and kill their prey without bias against man, woman, or child. They are, however, very beautiful beings; vampires have an aura about them that makes them very appealing to humans. They are always well-groomed, fit, and flawless in their appearance.
In order for a vampire to create another vampire, however, they cannot simply bite a human; if this was the case, at the rate vampires feed, almost every human being would be infected and no “food†would be left for these creatures after a short period of time. Therefore, there is a process that needs to be completed for a vampire to create a child: the vampire must bite the human and draw its blood into its own body. Then, when the human is weak, the vampire must make an incision on its own body (preferably the wrist) and feed its magical, tainted blood to the human. Once the human takes this vampiric blood into their injured body, they will undergo the transformation into a vampire. Only through this process can a vampire be created and brought into the world.

    Werewolves:
Werewolves are creatures whose folklore goes back to ancient Greece. They turn into wolf-like beings during the full moon each month. Usually being bit by another werewolf on any part of one’s body can turn a human being into one of these creatures, yet people have been able to also harvest their venom and inject it into others to turn them as well. They have superhuman strength, speed, and agility. They are weak to any weapons or items with silver in them.

    Lycans:
Lycans are a second, more advanced generation of werewolves. Being injected with the “Lycan virus†turns one into these creatures; the main difference is that Lycans can keep their human intelligence and personalities while transformed. They display supernatural abilities of physical strength, speed, reflexes, endurance, and agility even when they are in human form. Lycans can enter a state of hibernation and survive without food for centuries. They possess enhanced senses of smell, hearing, and sight that are superior even to those of wolves.

    Dunpeals (Dhampir):
A hybrid creature with a vampire father and human mother. Rarely do they possess the powers of their fathers but live much longer than regular humans. If a Dunpeal’s father was a noble, old, powerful vampire, the odds of their child inheriting the father’s vampiric powers is much higher. The most famous Dunpeal known to history so far is Vampire Hunter D.

    Humans:
Regular, mortal human beings with no abilities and infected with no monster’s virus/poison.

    Canon Characters:
    Gabriel Van Helsing (Bushy Brow)
Van Helsing is a Dutch doctor with a wide range of interests and accomplishments, and the arch-enemy of Count Dracula. He is one of the most famous Vampire Hunters of all time, believed to be the reincarnation of the Archangel Gabriel, the Left Hand of God. He works for the Vatican in Rome, Italy, helping rid Europe of “evil†creatures for a long time. Van Helsing is very quiet and reserved, though his attitude when speaking can be harsh and demanding. He has few friends and trusts no one. Over the years he has seemed to have faith in God to a certain extent but does not actually belong to the Catholic faith.
His weapons range from automatic bows to guns and blades, depending on the situation and what the Vatican gives him. Anymore of his past, family, and friends are unknown.

    Vampire Hunter D
From the 1985 and 2000 anime named for himself, Vampire Hunter D is the half-breed child of a vampire father and human mother. Having the ability to access both worlds and life-styles, D is the ideal vampire hunter. He is known for his skill and grace, but is feared and despised for his mixed blood by normal humans, being born of both races but fully belonging to neither. He is able to live a “normal†life as a human despite his unearthly beauty and a powerful aura (and therefore has no human friends or family.)
D possesses surprising power and resourcefulness, having powerful superhuman strength and the ability to use certain types of magic. He tends to prefer his physical strength, though, fighting with a long sword.
D is the host for an odd spirit, Left Hand, a wise-cracking human face residing in his left palm, who can suck in massive amounts of matter through a wind void or vacuum tunnel. Left Hand enjoys needling the poker-faced D, but only appears as needed, rarely witnessed or heard by anyone other than D, yet aware of many of D's thoughts and actions. At all other times, D's left hand appears normal. Besides providing a contrast to D's reserved demeanor, Left Hand is incredibly useful, possessing many mysterious powers such as psychometry, inducing sleep, determining the medical condition of a victim, and the ability to size up the supernatural powers or prowess of an enemy, even beyond D's keen senses.
D rides a cybernetic horse with mechanical legs and other enhancements, making travel from mission to mission magically fast and efficient.

    Dracula (Webhead)
Originally from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel with the character’s name as title, Dracula is the “King of Vampires.†He has strength which, according to Van Helsing, is equivalent to that of 20 strong men. Being undead, he is immune to conventional means of attack. The only definite way to kill him is by decapitating him followed by impalement through the heart with a wooden stake, although it is also suggested that shooting him with a sacred bullet would suffice. Like all undead, he has the potential to live forever and never die, though he is not truly immortal as he can be killed by the traditional vampire methods (silver and/or wooden stakes, holy water, etc.). The Count does not have to seek victims regularly, and has the ability to remain inactive for centuries. Dracula can defy gravity to a certain extent, being able to climb upside down vertical surfaces in a reptilian manner. He has powerful hypnotic and telepathic abilities, and is also able to command nocturnal animals such as wolves and rats. Dracula can also manipulate the weather, usually creating mists to hide his presence, but also storms. He can travel onto "unhallowed" ground such as the graves of suicides and those of his victims.

    Lestat de Lioncourt (Snow Princess)
This legendary vampire is the narrator and main character of the majority of the novels in Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series. Lestat was born on November 7, 1760, as the seventh son of the marquis d’Auvergne in France. Because of his boldness, enthusiasm, and defiance, Lestat's seniors refer to him affectionately as "the Brat Prince", a title of which he is very fond. He is very full of himself, aware of his overwhelming sexual prowess as a vampire and uses it to his advantage. Lestat is bisexual, being attracted to whoever most interests him at the time.
He is very vain and concerned with fashion, and will pause mid-narrative to remind the reader what he is wearing. He enjoys performing on stage, which he does as both a mortal actor in Paris, France and a vampire in his rock band called The Vampire Lestat, that he forms with a group of humans in the 1980s. Lestat is very fond of music: he sings, plays the piano, and the violin. Although he is illiterate as a mortal man, he learns to read and loves literature as a vampire. Lestat likes to play with his food; long seductions, midnight lures, sexual encounters, and mind games are just a few of the ways he manipulates humans before devouring them.
As a vampire, Lestat's abilities include telepathy, superhuman strength, and resilience. After receiving blood from several ancient vampires, Lestat's strength increases dramatically, and allows him to fly, perform feats of telekinesis and pyrokinesis, and survive exposure to the sun. Ultimately, he is a vampire of his own; he has no allegiance to the “vampire world†or the “human world,†however. Whatever makes him happy and entertained is what he settles with.

Louis de Pointe de Lac (Snow Princess)
Also from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series, Louis was born in France on October 4, 1766. He is, in short, very self-destructive, cynical, desperate, and longed for the release of death, but lacked the courage to commit suicide. Louis catches the attention of the vampire Lestat, who offers him the death-like state of vampirism as an alternative to his morbid request for death. Louis accepts and becomes Lestat’s companion, teacher, and “lover.†Despite the cruelty of his master toward his prey, Louis rarely ever eats humans, satisfying his thirst with animals and other creatures. He is Lestat’s second and last child.
After a long series of events, living with Lestat for over 100 years, Louis finds himself on his own, living a life of solitude, trying his best to stay hidden in the shadows of his immortal life.

    Hanabusa Aidou (Garxena)
Originally from the anime Vampire Knight, Aido is the heir of his family, one of the highest lineage of vampiric aristocratic families. Aido possesses the ability to freeze matter. He is very outgoing and charismatic, often flirting with girls. He is also careless about keeping the fact that he is a vampire secret, asking girls what their blood type is. He cares very deeply for his friends and his fiercely loyal.

    Akatsuki Kain (Garxena)
Also originally from Vampire Knight, Kain is Aido’s cousin. Kain possesses the ability to control fire. He is a calm person who rarely loses his cool and is incredibly perceptive to others’ feelings. His association with Aido frequently sees him getting into trouble, despite not being directly responsible. Kain is also loyal and protective, the type who would never betray his friends.

    Selene
From the movie Underworld, Selene is a vampire who is known as a Death Dealer, fighting Lycans who killed her family when she was young. Her weapons include modern equipment like pistols and semi-automatic guns. Selene’s vampiric powers include superhuman strength, long-distance jumping, healing abilities, resistance to sunlight, and swimming without need of oxygen.

    Violet
Originally from the movie Ultraviolet, Violet is a woman who was genetically altered to the point of being given vampire-like, superhuman abilities. She was given advanced speed, incredible stamina, and acute intelligence. In the part of the world she comes from, her kind are considered “diseased†and the government have been trying to wipe them out for a long time, causing civil unrest and almost all-out war.

    Character name: Anne Lyon
    Gender: Female
    Race: Vampire
    Age: Turned at 22
Immortal Age (mortal age plus years as an immortal, if applicable): 27
Background: Anne was a young woman born in a small town in Italy. She and her father lived alone above the printing press shop that he owned, making the few books that were published at the time, mostly the Bible. Not many people could read yet, so their business was slow. Once Anne was older, she took to going out and drinking, exploring the beautifully luring night streets of Italy with men and women she didn’t know well. She wanted adventure, a more exciting life than a boring, poorly business-focused father and a dead mother.
Her prayers were answered by an unholy, godless creature; a handsome, charismatic, mysterious man named Henry who had recently moved to Italy from England. Anne knew right away, when they met at a bar one evening, that this man was very different: his appearance was too perfect, his voice too well tuned for her ear, his personality almost a shoe-in, handmade connection to hers. She couldn’t, however, stop herself from wanting to spend every minute with him; he really seemed to be her other half. Henry revealed to her, not long after meeting Anne, that he was a vampire, turned by an old, cynical immortal that soon let himself burn in the sun afterward, leaving Henry with nothing but questions. This was over one hundred years ago. He learned what he could over the last century, searching for someone to spend eternity with since he was, naturally, lonely.
Already in love with each other, Henry turned Anne with little to no pain, and they began to share their immortal lives together. However, with the way her lifestyle changed with her new lover, suspicions arose and Vampire Hunters were called and notified of hers and Henry’s location (the Vatican being so close to her home in Italy.) During a scrabble between the Hunters and the vampires in her small hometown, Anne and Henry were separated. Anne was lost and afraid, not having her companion, maker, and lover at her side like it was supposed to be. Ever since that day, Anne has been searching for her soul mate, not knowing if he was captured and killed or just in hiding… waiting for her.

Personality: Anne is very impulsive, acting on what makes her happy at an exact moment, not thinking about the consequences. With an inadequate childhood and lack of real discipline, Anne is an extreme romantic who thinks that being in love is all one needs in life. With her impulsive nature comes a hot temper that can flare up with her vampiric powers, making her a deadly if inexperienced enemy.

    Running Shadows: Rebellion in Numenor

    Story:

Our tale takes place in a vast, far-away land, on a mass of land covered in different countries that are as different as night and day. The most prosperous and magical country reigns over all the others, controlling trade, taxes, magical restrictions, and even free will.

One land will finally rise up against the oppressive government and try to become free, searching for help from neighboring countries in the process. But with the immeasurably strong power against them, the would-be freed peoples of the land will have to fight to the death for their freedom.

    Descriptions of the Countries:

    Numenor
The country of Numenor lies in the northwest corner of its world, one of the poorest and smallest areas of the land. It's only points of strength are its impenetrable fortress of a castle and its Dragon-hunting grounds, where great warriors and generals are born for their tiny, unused army. Numenor trades well, but has no magical power within its inhabitants.

    Armania
The country of Armania is located north of a range of mountains above Numenor, cutting them off from the main land of its world. Assassins, mercenaries, and skilled bowmen come from this country, most of which only venture down into the mainland for money and ill-gained fame. This land keeps to themselves, but with pending rebellion and war they may be forced to choose sides and get involved or watch the world burn.

    Layoman
The country of Layoman lies east of Armania, also slightly out of the way of the rest of the mainland. This country is known far and wide for its horses; their breeding lines, speed, and durability are traded to all countries for profit beyond imagining. Layoman has become rich due to its The Black and Silver Trade Route that connects them to Numenor, and then to the rest of the countries.

    Rondor
The country of Rondor is located south of Layoman, in the midwest of its world. This is the home of the dwarves of this land, a hilly region where all the homes and their dwellers live underneath the earth. These people's talents are mining the rich minerals and jewels of the earth. They are also known for their magical mind-reading skills and their scrying abilities.

    Earoling
Just south of Rondor is the land of Earoling, the home of the Elves of this world. They are the most magical creatures of their world, known for their immortality and many other skills. Their land is surrounded by magical barriers that exist to keep out all except for the traders that are connected to them.

    Landroval
In the farthest southwest corner of the world lies Landroval, home of the divisionist Elves; long ago they separated from Landroval to uphold their own, much darker and less moral ideals. They practice dark magic, consuming the souls of human beings to increase their strength. Their main ally, and the ruling country of this world is mentioned below:

    Moraning
Covering most of the desert land of the southwest and east areas of its world is the country of Moraning. This country is the land that has been ruling over all others for decades now because of its extreme wealth, magical power, trading skills, and large population. Necromancers and Summoners are the main magical beings born from this place; their skill of speaking to, commanding, and raising the dead for their own benefit with the use of dark magic has made the feared by all others. Deadly, ill-magicked creatures come from this land as well, an ugly biproduct of all the dark magic done in this land.

The Copperhead Pass and its Forest
In the center of the world lies the Copperhead Pass, a deserted, desolate land that is not traveled on often because of the sand demons that dwell underneath the surface of the dry earth. In the center of the Pass is an enchanted forest that none exit or enter; any travelers or traders who go by it are always called into it by the spirits or demons that live inside and are never seen again. No one knows how this forest stays alive with no water source, but all assume that magic, probably dark magic, keeps it alive and keeps all away at a safe distance to keep their lives.
