Yes, it replaces the spell mantaining the address animation,for example, if you set firaga to be thunder and drive to wisdom, sora animation of firaga will still be sliding around and thunders will appear, also some weird stuff happens on final form

Did you install ccapi plugin on ps3? I think it works only on cobra mode, so you need a cobra custom firmware or rebug/debug. When you boot the ps3 there should be a notification about ccapi plugin beeing loaded.
