    Chapter 9

    The World That Never Was, Memory Skyscraper

    The city was dark, as always. Neon lights flashed on the unreadable signs of the buildings, erected through the mysterious power surrounding the castle. Indeed, the whole city was a byproduct of the excess energy from the creation of the castle.

    Rubbing her eyes at the glare of the neon, Namine cleared her vision as she took stock of her surroundings. A tall skyscraper stood in front of her, apparently the most prominent building in the dim city. Neon lights decorated the entrance, while windows of tinted glass covered the upper levels of the tall building.

    ‘Memory Skyscraper,’ Roxas murmured quietly behind her, ‘the manifestation of the remains of all Nobodies despair and hopelessness.’

    Turning, Namine glanced at Roxas. Although a controlled look covered his face, the frustration in his eyes could not be concealed. She could even feel his worry, emitting from his mind and surrounding him like an impenetrable shroud.

    Reaching out, she touched his hand lightly.

    The shroud disappeared immediately.

    ‘C’mon. We’ll walk from here,’ Roxas said as he started walking, ‘It’s against the rules to teleport from the city. Saix fears we might be followed.’

    Thinking to himself furiously, he fought to squash his nagging worry about Axel and his rage as Saix. He was NOT going to mess up this day for Saix. It was not worth it. Yet, he felt for Axel, and his anger returned.

    A few awkward moments passed as the duo walked through the streets of the uninhabited metropolis. It would be a strange sight in the eyes of a stranger to these parts. Two mature, yet slightly stunted teenagers, one in white and the other in black, walking down the alleys of this dark city.

    Breaking the silence in an effort to sooth her partner’s feelings, Namine said, ‘Roxas. Axel will be fine. Always have been, always will be, alright?’

    Stopping in his tracks, Roxas looked at the young girl and the worry on her face.

    Her worry for him.

    ‘Hadn’t she worried enough?’ Roxas thought regretfully.

    His face was unreadable for a moment, and Namine feared that she had crossed some invisible line. Then, a mischievous smile lit up across his face. A genuine one this time.

    ‘You know what?’ Roxas grinned as he prepared for a teleport, ‘Let Saix say what he wants. Screw him and his rules.’

    Breaking out into a smile with relief, Namine hung onto the blond-haired youth.

    ‘I’m game,’ she said as the two stepped into the portal and left the lightless city behind.

    +++

    From the top of the Memory Skyscraper, one could observe every single alley and street in the dark city. And so was the case with Axel, as he perched precariously at the edge of the roof of the skyscraper. He had observed the pair, right up to the moment where they disappear into the Corridor to Darkness.

    Ignoring the cold breeze of the night, Axel lowered his body.

    Then, he jumped.

    From the top of the skyscraper, he leapt down to a nearby building and dashed forward. Upon reaching the edge, he jumped again onto another roof and landed without breaking a bone in his body. Moving effortlessly only like an assassin could, he raced forward, determined to keep the momentum.

    Suddenly, a Neoshadow leapt out from the roof. However, before it could wrap its claws around Axel ankles, a chakram had already ripped through its body. Continuing forward, Axel hardly paused in his tracks as he reclaimed his weapon. Making another athletic leap, he landed on to the smooth surface of the street - the street where Roxas and Namine had warped off seconds ago.

    Stepping forward, Axel found what he was looking for – a thin wisp of smoke from the remains of the portal used to transport the duo. Taking out what looked like a high tech spraying bottle from his cloak, he immediately gathered the smoke.

    Directing the mist into the bottle, he then closed the lid and pressed a green button. Within seconds, the device analyzed the contents of the gas - who it came from, when it was formed, and more importantly, where it was going to.

    Giving a small beep, the device indicated it was ready to be used. Holding the bottle straight, he gripped the bottle tightly as he opened the nozzle.

    At once, masses of smoke emerged and concentrated into the form of a portal. Giving a satisfied smile, Axel stepped forward and entered the portal.

    Twilight Town, Sandlot

    As she stepped out of the portal, Namine sensed a familiar feeling about the place. Then, taking a brief look around, she realized she was at the sandlot in Twilight Town. Turning, she watched Roxas emerge from the portal and looked at him questioningly.

    ‘Twilight Town?’ Namine inquired. ‘What is there here except the clock tower and sea salt ice-cream?’

    ‘Well, first you need a new sketch pad, right?’ Roxas explained patiently. ‘I don’t think the moggle in the castle sells that. Anyway, you’ll be surprised at what you can do here. I have something for you at the end,’ he added with a wink.

    Frowning slightly, Namine turned to hide her disappointment. True, she wasn’t expecting something like a candlelight dinner or something on their first date, but couldn’t he be more romantic?

    When Roxas looked Namine’s face, he sighed resignedly.

    She didn’t get it.

    Putting a hand on her head, Roxas dug his knuckles into her hair. Just as Namine was about to protest, he gave her hair a BIG ruffle.

    Almost immediately, she gave a loud squeal and pushed him back HARD.

    As he hit the ground, Namine blushed as she desperately tried to tidy her now messed up hair. Turning on Roxas, she started berating him furiously.

    ‘What in the name of Kingdom Hearts was that for, Roxas!!!?’ she yelled.

    Calmly getting up and cleaning the dirt on his cloak, Roxas smiled as he explained.

    ‘Just now, you were worried for me, right? Now, when I see your face like that, I feel as if you’re still sad. So I thought I would make you feel better by doing that.’

    ‘Well you’ve got a funny way of making people feel good,’ Namine replied as she made a face at him.

    Laughing, Roxas took her hand into his as he led her away from the Sandlot.

    ‘C’mon. Let’s start our day,’ he said as the two sprinted into the heart of Twilight Town.

    Following reluctantly, Namine was slightly mortified at Roxas’ little trick. But somehow, he was right. She did feel better after her little ordeal. Gaining more confidence in him, she raced ahead with more enthusiasm.

    ‘Race you!!!’ Namine shouted as he broke away from a surprised Roxas.

    ‘It WAS Roxas after all,’ Namine thought as she smiled. ‘What could go wrong today?’

    She had no idea how wrong she was.

    +++

    Twilight Town, Clock Tower

    From the top of the clock tower, Axel surveyed the two. Part one of his mission was complete and now it was time for part two. Taking out the note he received this morning, he studied it again for the umpteenth time.

    ‘Axel. You have been given a special today of great importance. This mission will determine Namine’s status in the Organization - whether she is a key, or just a worthless pawn to our plans. Roxas will be guarding her today and his unnatural feelings for the girl may complicate things. Your mission is as follows:-

    1.) Follow Namine and Roxas out from The World That Never Was and find out what world they are going to.
    2.) Follow them in whichever world they go to until the right moment.
    3.) When the time comes, threaten Namine’s life. If what we believe will happen occurs, then you will understand. If she does not display any unusual abilities, you are free to terminate her.

    The success of the Organization rests on you. Good luck.’

    At the bottom of the note, was the Superior’s signature. And after that, there was a small note.

    ‘Note: You are given full authority to use brute force in order to subdue Roxas, should the need arise.’

    It was an order that could not be refused.

    Axel didn’t plan on failing.

    +++

    Twilight Town, Clock Tower

    By the end of the day, Namine was exhausted.

    Even though they had only been going around Twilight Town, she felt as if she had been running in a marathon. They went to a shop to get her a new sketchpad (Roxas insisted that he pay), played a few rounds of grandstand (Her arms still hurt from swinging the bat around), explored the Old Mansion (With a little help from Roxas’ keyblade) and even took a short stroll around one place that even Roxas had not been to – the beach of Twilight Town.

    Leaning back on the face of the clock tower, Namine recalled the conversation they had there.

    +++

    FLASHBACK BEGINS

    Twilight Town, The Beach

    As Roxas skirted to the sandy shores, Namine lagged behind, panting with each step she took.

    ‘Roxas! Wait for me!’ she gasped as he tried to keep up with the blond-haired youth’s steps.

    Stopping, Roxas looked at Namine guiltily as she collapsed on the white sand in pure tiredness. His eagerness to reach this place had completely covered out his exhaustion, but now that it came back to him, he too sat down beside her to rest his feet.

    Finally recovering from her lethargy, Namine glanced around. The beach was covered with pure white sand, and pine trees grew all around it. The trees provided a shade from the sun, as well as some privacy for couples.

    ‘Such as ourselves, I guess.’ Namine thought as her face went red, which had nothing to do with the hot weather.

    ‘When you walk away, you don’t hear me say, please……Oh baby, don’t go! Simple and clean…..’

    Startled, she stared at Roxas, who was the source of the humming. He lay on his back, the sand getting into his spiky hair as a peaceful look stretched out onto his face.

    ‘You know, I always wanted to see the ocean.’ Roxas said quietly. ‘I felt……connected to it somehow.’

    Seeing him so relaxed, Namine also eased up as she sat comfortably on the white shore beside him, the pair stared at the endless blue mass of the ocean.

    ‘Namine?’ Roxas asked suddenly.

    ‘Hmm?’

    ‘What are you?’

    Hearing the odd question, Namine looked at Roxas again. His face held a questioning look.

    ‘When I fought with Xaldin, he said that you were…… Nobody. Is that with a capital ‘N’?’

    Staring at the ground sadly, Namine contemplated her existence. She never really thought about it before. Was she….. one of them?

    ‘I don’t know, Roxas. How does anyone know?’

    Thinking for a moment, Roxas said, ‘Well, Saix said that Nobodies can’t sense emotions. We’re empty vessels, without heart. So we’re not supposed to feel anything.’

    ‘But I can feel, can’t I?’ Namine answered. ‘I got scared when I was threatened by Xaldin, and I was sad when he destroyed my room. That means I’m not one, right?’

    ‘Well, probably not then.’ Roxas said as he grinned. ‘You wouldn’t want to be like me.’

    Then, a sudden thought struck Namine. Roxas was a Nobody. He couldn’t feel worried, he couldn’t get angry, and he couldn’t love.

    But he did.

    ‘Roxas, are you sure you’re a Nobody?’ she asked.

    Realizing the gravity of her statement, Roxas looked away. Wasn’t he, a Nobody, unable to feel. Was he not capable of worrying, rage, sadness?

    Love?

    Suddenly, a bush of hair brush onto him. Startled, he looked down and saw Namine’s head lying on his chest. Looking upwards, she smiled gently at him.

    ‘I don’t mind anyway.’ She said softly as she closed her eyes.

    Smiling softly, the two lay on the beach and enjoyed their intimate moment.

    +++

    FLASHBACK ENDS

    And now they were here, just the two of them on the clock tower, enjoying their ice-creams. When he finished, Roxas took a small package from his cloak. Smiling, he handed it to Namine without a word.

    Curious, she finished her ice-cream quickly. Eagerly, she unwrapped the parcel.

    Inside, lying on the velvet-covered box, was a star charm.

    Taking it into her hands, she observed the charm quietly. It was in the simple shape of a bright yellow star, with a thin steel chain attached to it.

    ‘Corny right? I know,’ Roxas said shyly. ‘I didn’t know what you like, so I wasn’t sure-’

    Before he could continue further, Namine stopped him. Flinging her arms around her, she gave him a big hug. Smiling openly, she allowed small tears of happiness to drop from her eyes.

    ‘It’s perfect, Roxas,’ she whispered.

    The sunset had never looked so brilliant as Roxas returned Namine’s hug, a big smile also on his face.

    ‘It really had been a perfect day after all.’ Roxas thought.

    It was the wrong thought.

    Out of nowhere, two Dusks swooped out and snatched Namine from his arms and between them, carried her precariously ten feet above the ground below.

    +++

    Before Namine’s scream left her mouth, Roxas’ battle instincts had automatically clicked in. But he was too late. The two Dusks had already carried her too far from his reach, and he could reach them without himself or Namine plummeting onto the hard floor below.
    A Magnet spell would work, but he needed to cast it two times in a row – one to draw the Dusks in and one to save Namine – something he couldn’t do.

    +++

    In the air, Namine tried to calm down as the Dusks carried her away from Roxas. Being suspended ten feet from the ground with a high risk of being dropped, it wasn’t easy. She was already too far away from Roxas to formulate a plan with him. Despite that, she managed to control her fear enough to determine two things.

    One was that nobody could break the Dusks’ grip but herself, with magic obviously.

    And two was that she had to trust that Roxas would understand what she was about to do.

    ‘Well,’ Namine thought, ‘easy enough.’

    Shooting Roxas a desperate look, she incinerated the Nobodies with a single Flare spell.

    +++

    Catching Namine’s eye and seeing her blast the Dusks out of the sky, Roxas immediately made his move. Focusing all his concentration on his keyblade, he casted the spell.

    ‘MAGNET!’

    As a medium sized purple orb appeared, even Roxas felt himself being drawn to it. But his surprise at the strength of his spell was quickly replaced with despair.

    Namine was out of the spell’s range!

    Acting completely in desperation and instinct, Roxas leapt off the edge of the clock tower and grabbed the orb. Willing for the strength to come, he dragged the orb from its original position closer to the falling Namine.

    The strain was incredible, as was the pain, but somehow he managed to get the orb’s range close enough to Namine, so that she was drawn in towards him.

    But at that second, the tension between the caster and the spell was too great, and the magic dissipated completely. Holding Namine tightly, Roxas lashed his arms out in one last effort to grip onto the edges of the clock tower, but he knew he was too far.

    Yet, he was caught.

    As a pair of strong hand hauled him and Namine to safety, a familiar voice rang out.

    ‘How’re you doing, Roxas?’

    It was Axel.

    Hey people! Sorry it took so long for this one to come out (Two full weeks!). This year is my public examination year, so the chapters won’t come so frequently. Hopefully this was worth the long wait!

    Chapter 8

    It was the boy and the girl again.

    The girl was unconscious, yet not a scratch was on her frail body. The boy was cradling her in his arms, his expression taunt with worry. Shaking her limp body, he cried out her name.

    ‘Kairi!!!’

    Roxas’ Room, The World That Never Was

    Blinking, Roxas awoke slowly. Loosening his stiff limbs, he sat up on the edge of his bed, thinking about the dream. It had been a short one, yet it remained to nag at his thoughts.

    ‘Is this a bad sign? Will something happen today?’

    Getting up from the bed, he began approaching his wardrobe before noticing a note stuck on his door. On it was neat and even handwriting, as if someone had typed it on a typewriter, yet it was clearly written in hand.

    Xemnas’ handwriting.

    Curious, Roxas took the note and starting reading it. As he studied the contents of the memo, a smile gradually lit up on his face. Placing the note on his bedside table, he dispelled the nagging thoughts about his dream and donned his black cloak.

    ‘Today’s going to be a good day.’

    +++

    Namine’s Room, The World That Never Was

    At Namine’s room, a similar note was also pasted on the door. It was the source of her current happiness, a reprieve from yesterday’s horror with Xaldin. Keeping the memo, she found her comb under the wrecked table. Humming to herself softly, she started making her hair, her thoughts similar to Roxas’.

    ‘Today’s going to be a good day.’

    +++

    Axel’s Room, The World That Never Was

    Axel woke up earliest among the other organization members. Normally the morning was his brightest hour, yet today his face was creased with a frown. Taking the note and rereading it for the tenth time, he finally gave in to the inevitable task at hand. Making his preparations for the day, he signed resignedly to himself.

    ‘Today’s NOT going to be a good day.’

    +++

    By the time the sun was rising outside, three plans were already set.

    Two for romance.

    One for ruin.

    +++

    Namine’s Room, The World That Never Was

    Roxas came forward to Namine’s door, a queasy smile on his face. Although he was eager for the day to start, he couldn’t help but feel a slight bit nervous, which was strange, because he had never felt something like nervousness before.

    ‘Well,’ Roxas though, ‘no point waiting.’

    Taking a deep breath, he knocked the door.

    +++

    Knock! Knock!

    Almost leaping off her chair, Namine excitedly got up and rushed to the door, eager for the day to begin. She was about to literary burst the door open before she realized what she was doing. Putting one hand on the handle, she relaxed and composed herself.

    With a bright smile on her face, she opened the door.

    +++

    The two stared at each other, nervous smiles on their faces, not daring to make a move. However, their affection for each other overwhelmed their fears, as they relaxed naturally in the presence of each other.

    Roxas made the first move. Holding out his hand, he offered it to Namine and said with a mock regal tone, ‘Shall I have the honor of having your majesty’s hand?’

    Giggling, Namine gave him a friendly push as her nervousness disappeared immediately. It was replaced by a warm and comforting feeling, the sensation you get when being with a loved one.

    ‘Forget the elaborate act, you dope!’ she laughed as she took his hand, ‘Let’s just have fun today!’

    Grinning from ear to ear, Roxas gladly obliged as he held her hand tightly. ‘You got it, Namine.’

    Laughing, the duo sprinted from the hallway to The Grey Area, where their day could finally begin.

    +++

    Axel’s Room, The World That Never Was

    Putting a final edge to his chakram, Axel was finally ready to leave the comfort of his room. Testing its keen point with a finger, he accidentally applied excess pressure as the point punctured his skin.

    Sucking in a deep breath, he cursed the injury, along with his mission today. Rummaging through his cupboard for a plaster, he thought angrily.

    ‘How many more hearts must be broken before they are satisfied?’

    Finally finding one, he wrapped it tightly around the injured area. Observing his quick treatment for any flaws, he couldn’t find any. Grabbing his weapons, he hid them under his cloak just like an assassin would do.

    Stepping outside his room, he found two Dusks and two Assassin Nobodies outside his door, ready to obey their master. After being giving a few brief orders by Axel, they disappeared in a few wisps of smoke, each with a purpose of their own.

    Summoning a Corridor to Darkness, Axel stepped through, finally ready to start his day.

    +++

    The Grey Area, The World That Never Was

    The trio met at the doorway of The Grey Area, Roxas and Namine arrived all sweaty from running while Axel coolly entered from his dark portal. Observing the smiling couple, Axel loathed himself even more for the dark deed he was about to do.

    Faking a laugh, he said, ‘Hey, half-pints! Ready for your date today?’

    At Axel’s comment, Roxas and Namine stopped laughing immediately and began blushing furiously. Their nervousness returning, they looked away from each other, not daring to make an issue of their enjoyment of each other’s company.

    Despite his embarrassment at Axel’s interruption, Roxas still greeted him warmly, just a friend would do.

    ‘Morning, Axel. We’re not going on a date, okay? I’m just a guard…’ he began, but was interrupted by Axel again.

    ‘Right! And I’m a Dusk, don’t bother me!’ he joked as he kept his act on.

    Not noticing Axel’s deceit, the two turned red again. Satisfied that they were taken in by his act, Axel eased his mask slightly. However, any more chances for conversation among the three were ended with the sight of Saix approaching them, his usual superior air abound him.

    ‘There you three are,’ he said disapprovingly, ‘Late again without reason again, I suppose?’ Before Roxas could argue, he continued, ‘You should already know your duties for today, as Lord Xemnas have already issued notes to you, correct?’

    Roxas nodded, but Axel narrowed his eyes as he stared directly at Saix with anger, his cool mask barely concealing his rage at him.

    ‘Oh, no, Master Saix. Why don’t you remind us?’ he said sarcastically as he shot him a dark look. He would bet anything that Saix had a hand in whatever that was about to happen.

    Taking a second to study Axel, Saix coolly took out a scroll of paper from his coat pocket. As he unrolled it, Roxas could recognize Xemnas’ monotonous handwriting in the message. Holding it in front of him, Saix began to read.

    ‘The message from Lord Xemnas is as follows: ‘With my permission, Roxas and Axel will have special missions today.’’

    ‘For Roxas,
    ‘As Roxas is still recovering from his combat with Xaldin yesterday, I fear he will be too weak to carry out any missions today. Thus, I am assigning him to Namine, whom he will guard for the day.’’

    ‘For Axel,
    ‘Because of No. XIII’s lateness the last time with the girl, I have assigned Axel to meet up with them after he has completed his mission at 1700 hours.’’

    Roxas waited for more, but Saix was rolling up the scroll. Confused, Roxas asked, ‘What is Axel’s mission?’

    Before Saix could reply, Axel interjected. He did not take his eyes off Saix, wanting to show that he was ready.

    ‘Nothing much to worry about, kiddo. Just mind your own date,’ he answered rather curtly.

    His eyes gleaming with a satisfied look, Saix gave him an imperceptible nod. He knew Axel enough to know that he meant business, especially when he used that tone. Stepping aside, he opened up a dark portal for him.

    Without a backward look, Axel approached the portal but suddenly, he stopped at the edge. Turning backwards slightly, he took care not to reveal anything in his eyes. Yet, there was something in Roxas that made him feel exposed, and for a split second, his eyes betrayed a look of sadness, despair and pity.

    Then, it was gone.

    ‘Have a good day, Roxas,’ Axel muttered as he entered the portal and disappeared in the darkness within.

    +++

    As Axel left the room, the atmosphere became tense, as Roxas once again struggled to control his temper. He, like his friend, was sure that Saix had a hand in whatever that was about to occur, even if he didn’t know what exactly was going to happen.

    As he tried to move into a battle pose, a sharp pain shot through his body, and he was reminded of his wounds from yesterday. Being wiser from his experience, he decided to reserve his energy for another day, where he swore he would make Saix repent.

    ‘Roxas?’

    Namine’s hand tugged at his sleeve as she tried to gain his attention. Turning, Roxas aggressiveness immediately disappeared at the sight of Namine’s worried look. Forcing a smile on his face, he took her hand into his.

    Today was supposed to be a good day.

    Saix folded his arms as he stared at Roxas with a superior look, daring him to do something drastic, which he didn’t.

    ‘Where will you two be going?’ he asked.

    ‘Somewhere you won’t be.’ Roxas replied evenly as he left the room with Namine without a backward glance.

    +++

    Behind the leaving duo, Saix was smirking.

    ‘Everything was going according to plan.’

    Chapter 7

    After a one hour long lecture from Xenmas and a dozen threats to turn him into a Dusk should he ever try to harm another member again, Roxas was completely drained. He didn’t have any time to even cure his wounds, and every step he took on his injured leg was an agony. However, he knew that someone else was in greater need.

    “Hang in there Namine,” Roxas muttered as he limped. “I’m coming.”

    +++

    The World That Never Was, Namine’s Room

    Plop!

    A small teardrop fell onto the floor. It was like a sparking pearl, disintegrating into thousands of other smaller drops when it hit the cold, hard floor.

    Holding out her hand, Namine let another tear drop onto her palm. It felt cool as it splashed onto her bare skin and scattered into many minute drops.

    Just like her heart.

    Then the tears came in torrents as they flooded her palm.

    +++

    As Roxas entered the room, a sight of complete carnage greeted him. Dozens of slashes covered the walls. A table was broke clear into half and all that remained of the chair was a few splinters. Jagged strips of paper littered the room. And in the middle of this big mess, was Namine, sobbing quietly, her hands gripping her favorite sketchpad, or what remained of it.

    Approaching her tentatively, Roxas put a hand on Namine’s shoulder as he called her name softly. “Namine?”

    Even without looking at his face, Namine already knew it was Roxas who was beside her. Without a word, she threw her arms around his neck as she cried openly on his cloak.

    Taken aback, Roxas looked at the frail, little girl hugging him and immediately felt all his pain turn into sorrow for her. Wrapping his arms around her back, Roxas embraced her deeply into his arms.

    Staying like that for what felt like an eternity for the two, they finally broke apart and looked at each other, radiant smiles lighted on their faces.

    Then, his face blushing from their intimate moment, Roxas quickly stepped back. However, the abrupt movement caused a sharp pain to his injured leg. Uttering a cry, he fell to his knees in pain.

    Seeing Roxas in pain, Namine immediately rushed forward to his side. Seeing the extent of his injuries, she was horrified as she exclaimed.

    “Oh my God, Roxas! What on Earth happened to you???”

    Trying painfully to stand up, he struggled to reply.

    “Xaldin….got what he….. deserved!”

    At these words, he toppled to the ground and fainted, finally reaching his limits.

    Alarmed, Namine quickly placed her hand near to Roxas’ injured leg and concentrated as she prepared for a spell. Since the last few days, she had started to learn magic through spell books smuggled out from the library by Roxas. Surprisingly, she had progressed extremely well, though not up to the level as the first spell she used to protect Roxas, which was called Flare. Focusing, she called the spell.

    “Curaga!!!”

    A ray of light emerged from her palm and surrounded Roxas’ wound. Slowly, the blood stopped pouring out, the vessels reconnected and the muscles started to mend themselves together, until the only thing that remained of the injury was a small scar. Standing over Roxas, Namine repeated the spell over his body and healed the bruises sustained when he was slammed into the wall by Xaldin.

    After finishing the treatment, Namine observed Roxas’ body with a satisfied air. Most of his wounds had healed well, and no apparent permanent damage was inflicted. Exhausted, she sank to the floor and breathed heavily. Despite her amazing talent, she did not have enough stamina to sustain a spell for a long period of time, and it seemed that her limit was 15 minutes.

    +++

    Finally, half an hour later, Roxas began to stir. Shaking his head, he opened his eyes and saw Namine, who was standing over him and looking extremely relieved. Lending him a helping hand, she supported him up.

    “Hey Roxas. How are you feeling?” Namine asked as she helped him to his feet.

    Putting a hand to his head, Roxas appeared to be bewildered as he inquired.

    “Namine? What happened to me? How did I get here?”

    Surprised, Namine answered, “You fought with Xaldin, didn’t you? You fainted when you got here.”

    “Xaldin….” Trying to remember what happened, Roxas cleared out all the confusing thoughts in his mind. So many jumbled up pieces of memory in his mind, but he couldn’t seem to remember…..

    In a flash, everything came back to him.

    “I remember now!” he exclaimed as he stood up, “I fought with Xaldin because he trashed your room! I was so mad at him for doing that to you, so I managed to defeat him, but Xemnas showed up. I got lectured by him, but I was so worried about you that I couldn’t hear half a word he said. I immediately ran to your room after he dismissed me. I would never have forgiven myself if anything had happened to you! You’re the most important person to me! Namine, I…...”

    At that moment, Roxas realized that he had said too much and felt his cheeks burning. Turning away to hide his embarrassment, he changed the subject quickly.

    “So… Can you still sleep here? You still have your bed, right?” he asked.

    Namine, who was also blushing from Roxas’ unexpected confessions, looked up and answered, “I’ll be fine, Roxas. You should get some rest too.”

    Relieved at the excuse, Roxas said to her, “I will, Namine. Goodnight.”

    Just as he was about to exit the room, Namine’s voice called out.

    “Roxas!”

    Turning, Roxas smiled as he looked at the young girl questioningly.

    “Yes?”

    A shy smile tugging at her lips, Namine looked back at the young boy.

    “Thank you.”

    She really was important to him.

    “For everything.”

    P/S: An important note, Roxas REALLY forgot what happened at first.

    Chapter 6

    Catching his breath for a moment, Roxas rested as he looked for Namine and Xaldin in the Round Room. He had just finished searched all parts of the castle except one – The Grey Area.

    “Damnit,” Roxas thought furiously as he opened a Corridor to Darkness. “I hope I’m not too late to save her from whatever Xaldin was reserving for her.”

    +++

    The World That Never Was, The Grey Area

    Appearing in the circular room, Roxas walked out of the portal and walked straight into an organization member. Tumbling down on his behind, Roxas took a glance at the member.

    The long dreadlocks were all he needed to know that he was Xaldin.

    His cloak appeared slightly battered, as if a certain person had been pounding it repeatedly, and a few tattered pieces of paper lined his hair. In fact, he would have looked comical to Roxas except for one little detail.

    He was smiling.

    “Watch where you’re going No. XIII. Don’t want our keyblade master to be injured do we?” Xaldin drawled as he straightened his cloak. “Unlike a certain witch, who needed to be taught a few lessons for annoying me.”

    Clenching his fists tightly, Roxas tried to keep his emotions in check as he questioned Xaldin.

    “Where is Namine? What did she do and what have you done with her?”

    Brushing the last of the papers out of his hair, Xaldin replied casually.

    “Oh, she’s probably in her room crying her eyes out. The concepts for her drawings were so illogical, so I ran her room through a paper shredder.”

    Laughing, he thrust a crumpled up drawing from his cloak pocket to Roxas. “YOU might find this interesting.”

    Roxas’ hands shook as he observed the drawing. Even in its ruined state, he could still recognized Namine’s distinctive sketches. It showed a back view of him and Namine at Twilight Town, watching a sunset. They were sitting on the clock tower together closely, and their hands were joined.

    At that moment, the other organization members in the room (Luxord, Xigbar, Demyx amd Larxene.) were crowding around the two of them, hoping to get a better view of the impending conflict.

    “Love. Such a wasteful emotion, not that we have any.” Xaldin continued as he taunted Roxas.

    “These emotions you’re having, they’re fake Roxas, and you don’t even know that she’s fake too!”

    Delivering his ultimatum, he turned to walk away.

    The next thing he knew, the blunt end of a keyblade pounded onto his back.

    Spinning his keyblade, Roxas leapt into the air after Xaldin as he yelled in rage.

    “SHUT UP!!!”

    But Xaldin was an experienced battler, and his mastery of wind made him almost invulnerable while in midair. Recovering quickly with an Aero spell, he landed on the ground with hardly a tremor as he faced Roxas.

    “You’ll need to do better than that, boy!” Xaldin challenged as he called his six spears to his side.

    The organization members immediately fled behind the furniture in the room as they began placing bets.

    “I bet 200 munny on Xaldin!” Demyx immediately yelled from behind a sofa. HE, at least remembered his first beating by Xaldin.

    “300 munny on old dreadlocks!” Larxene called from under a table.

    “I wager 400 munny on Xaldin as well!” Luxord shouted as he tried to cramp with Demyx behind the sofa.

    “10 munny on Roxas!” Xigbar shouted from above as he suspended himself high above the room with his power over gravity.

    As the other members gave him a few weird stares, Xigbar shrugged and said, “Well, gotta give the kid a fighting chance, right?”

    Missing Xaldin in midair, Roxas landed on the ground and immediately came face to face with two spears rushing through the air. Dodging away quickly, he tried to get close enough to Xaldin for a combo, but was stopped by a barrier of wind blocking his way.

    Floating up in the air, Xaldin laughed as he began to shoot orbs of wind at Roxas.

    “You have to do better than that to beat me, lover boy!”

    Upon contact with the sofa, the orb broke and became an Aero spell. The sofa was immediately ripped to shreds.

    Gritting his teeth, Roxas dodged the orbs as he began to realize his reckless decision. He seldom trained with Xaldin, and he still hadn’t tried breaking his wind barrier yet. The last time he did, he broke a wall in the training room.

    “But, that doesn’t stop me from trying!” Roxas thought furiously as he dodged the last of the orbs and rushed at Xaldin.

    “Hit the hurricane’s eye! The point of no wind.” Axel had taught him once. Taking his advice, Roxas came from directly beneath him and took an upward strike.

    This time, his hit was true as his keyblade connected with Xaldin’s stomach. However, at the same time, Xaldin directed his remaining four spears at Roxas while enduring the blow.

    Out of sheer luck, Roxas managed to dodge three, but the last one found its mark on his left leg. Wincing with pain, he landed on the ground with his good leg. Before he could recover, Xaldin was already coming at him at full speed with his wind barrier. His movement impaired, he could hardly move, save dodge from the gales. Roxas was slammed into the wall as the strong wind forced him back.

    Calling back all six of his spears, Xaldin moved back to savor the sight of his injured opponent.

    “Give it up, boy. That witch isn’t worth this pitiful fight you’re putting on. You don’t even know her true nature. She’s a NOBODY,” he called out tauntingly.

    “NO!!!” Roxas shouted in defiance.

    At that moment, a sudden surge of energy passed through his entire body. It was as if something or someone inside him had been unleashed. Flipping his keyblade in a reverse grip, he directed all of his energy into it.

    Seeing this move, Xaldin’s eyes widened.

    “Isn’t that Ve-”

    Giving the keyblade a final charge, Roxas unleashed the power in one mighty swipe.

    Xaldin didn’t stand a chance as the devastating wave swept through him. Crashing to the floor with his spears broken, he was immediately knocked out.

    Then, Xemnas entered the room.

    He took one look.

    The ruined furniture.

    The hiding Organization members.

    The knocked out Xaldin.

    And finally the panting Roxas.

    He knew EXACTLY what happened.

    “ROXAS!!!!! YOU ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!!!!!” Xenmas roared as he grabbed the exhausted youth and dragged him into a Corridor to Darkness.

    A shocked silence followed as the battle came to an unexpected and abrupt end. A newcomer had just beaten one of the founding members.

    Dropping from the ceiling, Xigbar looked at Larxene, Demyx and Luxord with a smirk on his face.

    “I think someone owes me some munny.”

    Chapter 5

    FLASHBACK CONTINUES

    Helping Namine to her feet, Roxas looked out for any more lingering Heartless. But it seemed as if Namine’s magic had either killed or scared the remaining enemies. Suddenly, a pain in his ribs caused him to bend double with pain and fell to his knees.

    “Roxas!” Namine cried with concern. Taking his arm, she supported him up.

    “C’mon. We’ll get back to the castle together. After all, two half pints make one whole.” she said as she smiled tiredly.

    Immediately leaping to his feet, Roxas tried to put up a brave front as he assured Namine. “I’m alright. Stop worrying about me.”

    Taking her hand, he slowly made his way to the clock tower. “C’mon. I want to show you where me and Axel usually hang out.”

    +++

    Twilight Town, Clock Tower

    Namine sat at the top of the clock tower and waited patiently. Roxas had left for awhile to get something for them. Perching on the ledge, she observed the beautiful sunset.

    “It’s so beautiful. No wonder they come here everyday.” Namine thought as she leaned back on the face of the giant clock.

    “Enjoying yourself?” Roxas’ voice sounded as he returned. In his hand were two blue colored ice-creams. Handing one to her, he took a seat on the ledge.

    “It’s sea-salt ice cream. It might taste a bit weird at first, but you’ll get used to it.”

    Laughing, Namine accepted the treat. “Looks like there are a lot of things I need to get used to, huh?” Taking a small nibble, she commented, “It’s really salty… but sweet, too.”

    Roxas smiled as he remembered his reaction to the first sea-salt ice cream he had ever tasted. He had said the exact same words as she had.

    Taking a bite out of his ice cream, he asked, “So, have you used magic before?”

    Namine sighed as she answered, “No. This has never happened before. Besides, if I knew I had this power, I would have fought off you people before you could get to me.”

    Screwing her face into a mock scowl, she waved her hands on her head as if gathering power for a spell as she threatened Roxas menacingly. “I think I could even take you on!”

    “As if!” Roxas laughed as he gave her a friendly push. Then, changing his voice to a serious tone, he gave her a warning. “You had better learn to control that power in you. That magic you used was high level fire magic, possibly even stronger than Firaga. Maybe Xemnas took you in for that power.”

    Roxas clenched his fist as he bitterly continued. “Then he’ll use you like a tool, just like me.”

    Silently thinking for a moment, Namine finally confessed to Roxas. “I can’t control it, Roxas. I tried while you were gone just now. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t use that spell again. I still have the energy to use it, but it wouldn’t come no matter how hard I willed it to.”

    Smiling sadly, she looked at her hands. They were pure and unblemished. “Guess I’m back to being the damsel in distress, huh?”

    Seeing her sad face, Roxas immediately comforted her. “Hey, we all have to learn. Magic is tricky business. I haven’t even managed to master the basic spells yet. I was practicing a fire spell one day when…”

    At this part, Roxas face turned red. Fidgeting a little, he continued.

    “I burned down the library. It wasn’t pretty. Xemnas was pretty ticked off. I had to clean up the whole place myself, WITHOUT MAGIC.”

    Stifling a laugh, Namine giggled as she imagined Roxas sitting in a dusty and burned down library with a broom in his hand, slowly sweeping the thick layer of ashes on the floor.

    Without warning, the ledge she was sitting on suddenly transformed into a bent tree trunk. She was by the sea. Having a shock, Namine looked beside her, expecting to see Roxas. Instead, she saw the brown-haired boy, and he was sitting on the trunk just like the way Roxas was sitting on the ledge. Looking down, she had a shock when she saw that her white dress had became a white sleeveless t-shirt and a light purple skirt, and her blond hair had turned into a shade of auburn. Grabbing the boy’s hand, she shook him and asked desperately. “Who are you??? Who am I???”

    “Namine! NAMINE!”

    Blinking, Namine snapped out of her vision. She was back at the clock tower, with a very worried Roxas looking at her. Looking down, she realized she was holding his hand tightly. Blushing, she immediately let go and became silent.

    Concerned, Roxas asked, “Namine, are you alright?”

    Instead of giving him an answer, Namine answered with another question. “Roxas. Do you have… strange dreams?”

    Confused, Roxas thought carefully before answering her. “I’ve had a few of them. A lot of them were about a trio I had never met before. There was a long and silver haired boy, a red haired girl and-”

    “A spiky haired brunette?” Namine interrupted him. As Roxas stared at her in amazement, she continued excitedly.

    “They were always at the beach right? And sitting on a bent tree trunk?”

    Before Roxas could answer her, a curt voice rang out. “There you are. Where have you two been?”

    It was Saix.

    Pointing at Roxas accusingly, he reprimanded him in front of Namine. “You should have been back 30 minutes ago, and instead I find you lounging here with that witch.”

    Upon hearing Saix calling his new friend a ‘witch’, Roxas’ blood began to boil. Clenching his fist, he began to take on an attacking stance.

    Namine, seeing him tense up, immediately gave him a light touch. He had already been injured once because of her. In his current state, Saix would have easily held him off, and do even more. Catching the signal, Roxas composed himself.

    “I’m sorry,” Roxas apologized through clenched teeth as he summoned a Corridor to Darkness, “We just lost track of time. We’ll head back immediately.” Making his way through the portal with Namine, he suddenly found Saix blocking their way.

    Eying Roxas with a look of superiority, Saix grabbed Namine’ arm and dragged her away from him. “I’ll take it from here. Apparently you have some false attractions to this girl, attractions Nobodies can’t feel.” At this, Saix stared straight into Roxas’ angry eyes. “I must show the girl her room. Only you do not know its location, so I will allow you to follow,”

    Saying thus, Saix made his way into the portal with Namine in tow.

    Swearing angrily under his breath, Roxas followed as the portal vanished into a wisp of darkness.

    +++

    FLASHBACK ENDS

    Running through the halls of the castle, Roxas searched for Namine desperately. That was the reason he tried so hard to protect her. They were connected to each other by a single common thread.

    Something so simple, yet so significant.

    They both shared the same dreams.

    CHAPTER 3 HAS BEEN EDITED ABIT (THE ENDING).

    Alright, alright. Thanks for your support :) Kh-vids doesn't have as many readers as before...

    I was away for vacation, that's why this chapter took so late. Hope you like it :)

    Chapter 4

    FLASHBACK CONTINUES

    The World That Never Was, The Grey Area

    As Namine stepped out of the portal, she bent down and took a couple of deep breaths. She hated traveling using darkness, but she knew better than to annoy the Organization members by forcing then to walk. Steadying herself, she studied her surroundings.

    The room was an oval room, with on side panned with glass so you could see the outside. The room was empty except for two tables on the left and right side of the room. Strangely, a moogle was also floating in the room. In the middle of the room stood Saix, while Axel was lounging at the table on the left.

    Behind her, Roxas emerged. Concerned, he asked, “Are you alright? It takes time to get used to traveling using a Corridor to Darkness. We can walk the next time we’re moving through the castle if you want.”

    Seeing his worried look, Namine immediately straightened up and smiled. “Maybe he's not so bad after all.” She thought as she replied.

    “I’m fine. Just still not used to it.” Looking away, she added sadly. “I doubt the other members will give me that luxury.”

    Putting a comforting hand on her shoulder, Roxas said, “Then I’ll just have to teach you how to get used to it.”

    Facing her, he explained. “At the beginning, you won’t be used to the suffocating sensation while inside the portal, so take a deep breath before entering. When you get out, take deep breaths to steady yourself, like this.”

    Saying that, he took a few exaggerated deep breaths.

    Seeing Roxas' act, Namine couldn't help herself and started giggling.

    “Hey Roxas. You hyperventilating man?”

    Turning, Roxas saw Axel’s grinning face looking at him.

    “Just teaching her the trade, Axel.” He replied cheerfully.

    However, at that moment, Saix caught sight of them. Frowning, he stared at them. “Axel, you’re supposed to be in Agrabah now. You're working extra time today. Roxas, I have you’re usual mission ready for you in Twilight Town.”

    Smirking, Axel shot Roxas a goodbye before vanishing through his Corridor to Darkness.

    Groaning aloud, Roxas exclaimed. “Collecting hearts, AGAIN?”

    Nodding, Saix replied, “Yes. You and No. XIV are the only ones who can do that after all.”

    Turning to Namine, he said, “Roxas will guard you for today. Do not to get in his way, or else…”

    Hearing Saix’s comment, Namine’s face blanched with fear as she took a step back. Seeing this, Roxas stood in front of her protectively as he faced Saix.

    “She won’t. I’ll complete my mission without fail and take care of her at the same time.”

    “Very well.” Saix replied. His face betrayed no emotion as he opened a dark portal for Roxas and Namine.

    After leading Namine into the Corridor to Darkness, Roxas turned to look at Saix. Giving him one final defiant look, he vanished through the portal.

    +++

    Twilight Town, Station Plaza

    Breathing deeply, Namine stepped onto the Station Plaza as she arrived through the Dark Corridor. Roxas followed as he closed the portal behind him. Offering Namine his hand, he said, "Here we are. Welcome to Twilight Town."

    Using Roxas' hand as her support, Namine stood up and examined the town. It looked just like any normal town, with a few shops and a train station. However, the one thing that caught her attention was the massive clock tower they were standing in front of.

    Roxas explained as he scanned his surroundings. "The clock tower is where me and Axel hang out after our missions. We sit on the ledge in front of the face of the clock and have ice cream together."

    Looking up at the clock tower, he added sadly. "Looks like he won't be here today."

    Seeing his sadness, Namine touched his hand gently and said, "Looks like the two of you are good friends."

    Roxas looked at Namine as he declared. "Of course! We're best friends."

    Motioning for her to follow, he continued as he began heading towards Tram Common

    "When I first joined the Organization, Axel was the one who taught me how to fight. We went to the tunnels and I remember Axel kept telling me to whack him like I meant it. Well, I obliged."

    Roxas laughed as he reminiscned. "He swears he still feels that lump on his head whenever he wakes up."

    The two laughed together as they were about to leave the Station Plaza. Suddenly, Roxas stopped Namine as he summoned his keyblade. Seeing Namine's eyes widened at the sight of his weapon, Roxas said, "Yeah, it's a giant key. I'll explain later. Right now, we've got company."

    Sure enough, as soon as the words left his mouth, a small troop of Soldiers and Shadows appeared. Motioning for Namine to keep close, he charged at the Heartless fearlessly.

    Pounding his keyblade into a Soldier, he spun out of reach from the other Hearless' attacks immediately after and proceeded to swipe a Shadow out of the way. However, his quick assault meant that Namine could not keep up with him and was surrounded by a small group of Heartless.

    "Namine!" Roxas yelled as he broke the ring of Heartless surrounding her. Protecting her from all sides, he quickly dispatched the enemies around them. However, this reckless move caused himself to also be surrounded by another group of Heartless. Soon, he was hard pressed from all sides and had to utilize every trick and skill he learned from Axel to fend off the Heartless' attacks. Smashing his keyblade into another Shadow, Roxas considered his options grimly.

    "I can't break out now. Even if I reach critical stage, I didn't learn that Limit Break properly from Leaxuas. It'll take a miracle to get out this mess."

    Finally, a spinning kick from a Soldier connected with Roxas' stomach. It knocked the breath out of him and sent him flying a few feet back. Shaking off the pain, he recovered quickly but was at once set upon by the Heartless. Submitting to the pain, he crashed onto the floor as the keyblade dissapeared.

    Seeing the Heartless piling onto Roxas, Namine snapped out of her fear. Without regard for her own safety, she leapt onto the Heartless and screamed. "Roxas! NO!!!"

    Suddenly, a blinding flash of light appeared around her, followed by flames of intense heat. The Heartless piling on Roxas were immediately eliminated upon contact with the brilliant flare.

    Rising up, Roxas stared at Namine with wonder, who was just as surprised as he was.

    "You can use magic?!?!"

    Chapter 3

    FLASHBACK STARTS

    +++

    “Sora!â€

    “Kairi’s heart… Is inside me?â€

    “This is my lucky charm. Be sure to bring it back okay?â€

    “I promise.â€

    “We may be apart, but we’ll never forget each other!â€

    “Kairi!â€

    +++

    The World That Never Was, Roxas’ Room

    “Kairi!â€

    Roxas woke with a start. Snapping out from dreamlike state, he took stock of his room. He was lying on his bed, in the left corner of his room. A table and chair was on the opposite corner, while a small wardrobe sat beside it. It wasn’t a big room, but it was comfortable enough.

    Sitting straight up on his bed, Roxas tried hard to remember the details about his strange dream. However, a mist-like shroud was beginning to set on his mind about the dream, and he could no longer remember the details, save the names of its denizens.

    “Another dream about him… Who is Sora? And who is this… Kairi?â€

    KNOCK!

    Someone was knocking at his door. Shaking his head in resignation, he got up from his bed and opened the door. It was Axel.

    “Morning Roxas! Slept well?†Axel greeted him.

    “Not bad. Had a few weird dreams,†Roxas replied, smiling.

    “You don’t say? I had a fair share of them myself yesterday,†Axel mused. “I think I dreamt about Demyx trying to drown me because I broke his sitar and called him a wuss.â€

    Roxas laughed. “That’ll teach you not to annoy Demyx next time. So, what brings you here?â€

    Axel went into deep thought for a moment. Just when Roxas thought he had forgotten what he had come up here for, Axel snapped his fingers and exclaimed.

    “Oh yeah! Saix wants us in the meeting room pronto. He said something about a new denizen to our castle.â€

    “Another member? Won’t that make Organization XV now? Or will we stay as Organization XIII? When No. XIV came in, we didn’t change to Organization XIV too…†Roxas said.

    “Saix said a new denizen, not a new member.†Axel corrected him. “Guess we’ll find out who he or she is during the meeting.â€

    +++

    The World That Never Was, Round Room

    The Meeting Room was shaped round, with 13 chairs of different heights arranged on it perimeter. The different heights, Axel explained, signified the rank of the members. Xemnas was seated highest, as he was the Superior, while Roxas was seated lowest, being the latest addition to the Organization. However, Roxas noticed that No. XIV, Xion was not present.

    “Come to think of it, she’s never been to any meetings except the time she first joined. She doesn’t even have a chair of her own. I wonder why…†Roxas thought.

    His questions had to wait, however, as Xemnas called the meeting to order.

    “Welcome my friends. Today we will welcome a new denizen to our castle. Marluxia, bring her in.â€

    Marluxia gave Xemnas a curt nod as he warped out. A few seconds later, he returned, bringing with him a blond haired girl. She had blue eyes and wore a white blouse and skirt instead of the standard jet-black Organization cloak. She stood in the centre of the circle, nervous but determined not to appear afraid.

    “This is Namine.†Xenmas continued. “She is part of our plan to complete our ultimate goal, to complete Kingdom Hearts. This plan will soon be revealed to the lower echelons of the Organization soon, so be best prepared.â€

    At the statement “lower echelonsâ€, Roxas noticed an ugly grimace grew upon Larxene’s and Marluxia’s faces. Even though Xemnas used the words ‘lower echelonsâ€, to them, he may as well referred to them as the crap and junk of the Organization.

    Suddenly, a hooting laugh sounded out from Xigbar, No II.

    “Hahaha! This is going to be a laugh, she going to be staying in this castle? With 12 guys, a shemale and a -â€

    “WHAT DID YOU CALL ME???†Larxene roared as she summoned her kunais.

    Xigbar quickly jerked his head to the left as a kunai slammed into his seat and summoned his weapons, the twin arrowguns.

    Summoning a bolt of lightning, Larxene lunged from her seat and directed it at Xigbar, but missed. Suddenly, she felt a gunpoint at her neck as Xigbar appeared behind her, upside down and halfway out of a wormhole.

    “This will teach you not to bring a knife to a gunfight.†Xigbar crowed and added with a mocking tone. “I care about you safety Larxene.â€

    “ENOUGH!†Xemnas shouted. “Xigbar, back to your seat. Larxene, compose yourself. We must discuss about who will take care of Namine. She must be guarded daily by one of us. I will make the duty roster today. However, I need a volunteer to tend to her today.â€

    As always, Xigbar was quick to the trigger.

    “Elect Marluxia. He’s girl enough to be with the girl. At least, more so than Larxene.â€

    Infuriated as he was, Marluxia refused to take the bait.

    “What about you, Superior? Seems like lately all of us have been working hard this week except you and Saix. I wonder what you two have been cooking in his room,†he laughed as he stared directly at Xemnas.

    Xemnas stared back at Marluxia unblinkingly. “I will show Namine the castle tomorrow. Since you have taken care of her yesterday, you may be excused. The rest of you…â€

    +++

    At this point however, Roxas was past listening. He was observing Namine. Strangely, he had a nagging feeling in his head that he had seen her before, but it wasn’t her exactly.

    “Like and yet unlike.†He thought.

    +++

    At the centre of the circle, Namine was also losing interest in the conversation. She observed the members of the Organization. Xemnas, Xigbar, Marluxia and Larxene she knew already. Saix, the blue haired man with an X on his face; Vexen, the blond researcher; Xaldin, the guy with dreadlocks; Zexion, the purple haired emo; Lexeuas, the brown haired and ripped one; Luxord, the bearded gambler, Axel, the spiky and red haired fire starter; Demyx, the short haired blond with the sitar.

    “They look like a big family,†Namine observed. “A very twisted one.â€

    As she turned to the final member, their eyes connected instantly.

    +++

    As soon as Roxas and Namine made eye contact, many pictures began to flash in front of their eyes. Pictures of people they had never met. Pictures of places they had never been to. Pictures of times they had never experienced.

    Pictures of their dreams.

    “Sora.â€

    “Kairi.â€

    +++

    Roxas snapped back into focus. He blinked and looked at the bizarre sight before him. Demyx was lying on the floor in front of his seat, face flat. Xigbar was crouching beside him and telling him something about what he got for calling him an old man. He saw Xemnas yelling but strangely, couldn’t hear his voice. Blinking again, he turned back to Namine. She looked shaken by the experience as well.

    Roxas made his descision.

    +++

    “THAT’LL TEACH YOU TO RESPECT YOUR ELDERS!†Xigbar yelled. He had Demyx in a headlock and didn’t look like he was going to let go anytime soon. “WHAT SHOULD YOU CALL ME AGAIN?!?!?!â€

    Even if Demyx could hear him, he most certainly couldn’t reply him. His face was turning into a shade as blue as his sitar. “Xi…..g……ba…...r….. Le…...t……..me.……go….†He struggled to get the words out.

    Xenmas sighed. “Another day at the job.†Turning his attention back to the others, he continued. “Any volunteers? At all?â€

    “I’ll do it.â€

    Roxas’ voice sounded small in the meeting room. He needed answers, and the Organization weren’t exactly providing them.

    Xenmas gave a sigh of relief. “Alright No. XIII. The job is yours. The rest, dismiss.†Summoning a portal, he disappeared behind it to some other location. The rest followed his lead and left the room, one by one.

    Until the two were left alone.

    +++

    Roxas dropped from his seat and approached Namine. "She's nothing more than a scared girl," Roxas thought as he wondered. "What does Xenmas want with her?†Reaching out his hand, he said, “Hey. I’m Roxas.â€

    Namine looked at him tentatively, and then shook his hand. “I am Namine. Nice to meyou.â€

    A few awkward moments passed, where they looked at each other without a word. Then, the silence was broken by Roxas.

    “We better go. I have a mission to do.†Opening a Corridor to Darkness, he stepped beside it and smiled. “After you, Namine.â€

    Nodding quietly and returning his smile, Namine stepped into the darkness and vanished. Roxas followed suit, as the portal disappeared behind them.

    Thank you =) Here's the next chapter for you.

    (Note: I am thinking about taking into consideration the events of KH:358 2 Days, but I don't think that will be much of an impact on the story.)

    Chapter 2

    The World That Never Was, Training Room

    CLANG!

    The sounds of metal clashing against metal vibrated through the practice room as Roxas and Axel sparred against each other. Axel favored his favorite twin chakrams while Roxas wielded his keyblade, the Kingdom Key. Parrying and thrusting, the two duelers moved across the room swiftly. However, Roxas’ mind was not on the battle at hand.

    “Yo Roxas! Heads up!†Axel yelled suddenly.

    Roxas immediately snapped away from his thoughts and looked up, expecting some form of attack from above him. Instead, he felt Axel’s elbow forced its way in between his ribs and knocked the air out of him.

    Roxas flew back several feet before landing onto the marble floor with a resounding crash. Even as he struggled to get back on his feet, Axel was already closing in on him. Pushing him down again with a palm thrust, he forced his head back with one of the sharp points of his chakram.

    Shaking his head to clear out the vibrations in his skull, Roxas groaned.

    “Alright, alright. I give.â€

    Sighing, Axel gave his friend a despairing look. It was the forth time he had tricked his friend today.

    “Don’t you already know not to listen to your enemy? Trust your instincts, Roxas.â€

    Being friends with this young teenager for a few days was enough for Axel to be able to read him like an open book, and particularly with the addition of a certain new denizen to their castle, he knew exactly what was bugging him.

    “You’re not into it today man. What’s worrying you? Namine?†Axel grinned as he teased Roxas.

    Recovering from the elbow thrust from Axel, Roxas felt his face burn from being tricked so easily and from his friend’s remark.

    “Now why would you say that?â€

    Axel grinned. He had his friend cornered. Screwing he face into a look of immense concentration, he launched straight into his speech.

    “Well, Day 1, she was given the tour of the castle by the Superior; Day 2, she had to endure Demyx’s 'Guitar Hero' imitation for the whole day; Day 3 she was stalked by Vexen for his so called ‘research’; Day 4, she…

    Roxas groaned. He was trapped and he knew it.

    “Axel…â€

    “…; Day 5, she was used as target practice for Xigbar; Day 6, she had to help Marluxia with his ‘gardening’; Day 7, she got ranted at by Larxene; Day 8, she…â€

    “Axel!†Roxas yelled and then lowered his tone.

    “I get it. Guess we’re done for the day?â€

    Axel nodded as he kept his chakrams.

    “You got it. Get going. I don’t think Xaldin’s gonna give her an easy time today. The rest of them haven’t.â€

    Roxas smiled appreciatively as he headed for the door.

    “Thanks Axel. You’re the best!â€

    However, before he could step out from the practice room, Axel’s voice sounded out.

    “Roxas, wait!â€

    Roxas turned and look into Axel’s face. It carried a troubled expression.

    “Why are you so attracted to her? You know it as well as I do. We’re nobodies. No hearts. We’re not capable of any emotions. Not anger, not fear, not joy, not sadness,†he asked as looked straight into his friend’s eyes.

    “And not love.â€

    Roxas was silent for a moment. He thought back to the day he first met Namine, and the following days when they talked together. He knew the answer.

    “A connection.â€

    Hey people. This fanfic is dedicated to Roxas and Namine. Unless you have a really good memory, this story was posted here 3 years ago by me. Hopefully being older 3 years will give me some maturity in my writing. This story happens during Roxas' time in the Organization.

    (Note: I've disregarded anything that has happened in KH:358 2 Days.)

    Chapter 1

    World that Never Was, White Room (where Namine stays)

    Namine sat on her favourite chair, and surveyed her surroundings. There wasn't much furniture in her room. Just a table, a few chairs and a drawing mirror. It had been one week since she was first bought to the stronghold of the company known as Organization XIII. One week since she was first introduced to the Nobodies of the castle she was imprisoned in. She had came to loath many of her captors.

    Her thoughts returned to the drawings in her sketchpad.

    "Hmm... Xenmas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion. Saix, Axel, Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, Larxene...There's one more..." Namine mused.

    "Drawing those silly pictures again are you?" a drawling voice sounded, as a black coated woman with blond hair stepped into the room.

    Namine winced. It was Larxene. She had been her personal tormentor ever since she stepped into the castle and took joy in seeing other's distress.

    Today wasn't going to be an exception.

    Striding towards her in a few steps, Larxene reached Namine before she could make a move and snatched the drawings from her.

    "Don't you have anything better to do, witch?" she drawled.

    "Xenmas the mansex'? 'Marluxia the flower boy'? 'Saix the werewolf's child?" She laughed wickedly as she flipped through the drawings. "I think I should let those idiots see this. What will they do when they see what their little witch thinks of them."

    Namine tried hard not to panic and made a grab for her drawings but failed.

    "I don't have anything else to do here. These pictures are all I have. To remind myself of the memories here..." she answered timidly.

    "Hah! How ironic! You claim that you're keeping memories, but I've heard take apart people's. You witch!!" Larxene taunted as she flung the sketch book on the floor.

    "Leave her, Larxene!" a voice sounded out as a blond haired teenager also wearing a black cloak entered the room.

    Shooting the intruder of her fun a contempuous look, Larxene slammed the door shut as she stalked out of the room. She wasn't afraid of him, but fighting among members of the Organization was banned by their Superior, Xemnas. And Roxas wasn't a person to be trifled with.

    Seeing Larxene's departure, Namine immediately started picking up her pictures. Roxas, seeing her urgency, also knelt down and helped her. A smile grew on his face as he looked at her drawings.

    "'Vexen the pervert'? 'Demyx the wuss'? Couldn't you think of something else better?" Roxas joked.

    "What was I supposed to think about? I'm not like that antenna-haired shockbox Larxene!" Namine protested and smiled in spite of herself. "You're Roxas aren't you?"

    "Yeah. Got it memorized?" Roxas replied and then added with a whisper, "Don't tell Axel I stole his catchphrase okay?"

    Namine laughed as she observed Roxas up close. He had spiky blond hair, the same blue eyes as her's, and donned the cloak of the organization.

    "Not bad for a Nobody," she thought with a blush.

    After helping Namine pick up her drawings, Roxas stood up to leave.

    "Well, I'll see you around, Namine." He said as he looked at her.

    She was still the same timid and cute girl who first stepped into the castle one week ago.

    "She's going to need a lot of protection," he thought to himself as he left the room.

    +++++++

    Namine smiled. Picking her sketchbook, she began to draw Roxas.

    It IS possible to max out your stats, so listen!!!!

    You will need:

    1. Clear Spheres (Lots of them. You can buy them from the monster trainer after you beat Ultimate Buster.)

    2. Stats raising spheres ( I mean powers spheres,mp spheres etc.. You can get those by defeating the arena monsters eg. kottos, ironclad etc.)

    3. A hell load of Gil (one Clear Sphere cost around 1000000 Gil)

    Right, this will take A LOT of your time, so you have to be really serious about this. The plan is to travel around the sphere grid and REPLACE (yes, REPLACE) those stats spheres so that they get higher.

    Example: You are on a strength+1 node. Use a clear sphere and delete that strength+1 node off so that it becomes an empty node. Now, use a strength sphere on the empty node we just made so that it becomes a strength+4 node.

    It is possible to end up with maximum stats using this method. I don't know, I've never tried =). Good luck!!

    Actually, 255 luck = 255 evasion and 255 accuracy and almost 100% chance of performing a critical attack.
    So, luck isn't so useless after all. Good luck finding fortune and luck spheres (you'll need it =))

    Allrighttttttttt.....since you're so smart and we are so nubs (whatever that means), why don't you share your knowledge as to how to max out your stats and have around 40k hp, o great one?

    Lvl 66 is mroe than enough to take down Riku V2. He should be easy. Start by using dragon malificent and start whaling him. Take caution in what card values you use. Save some 0s to break his dark aura. you shouldn't have much problem with him.

    Hades is easy if you know what to do. Stock up on blizzard cards. If you can produce blizzaga, then it's great. Also stock up on attack cards besides the kingdom key since you should have better ones by now. Also, get some cure cards. Also get soem cures in your deck. Place some 0 cards at the back of your deck for easy access to sleigh breaking. Hades is VERY weak to ice, so whale him with blizzards and blizzard raids. When he uses a sleigh, scroll to the back and use your 0 cards. Keep it up and you should be fine.

    The best way is this:

    1. Go to somewhere that can give you a lot of drive orbs (i used land of dragons. Another good place is beat's castle.)

    2. Summon a summon and spam it's limit.

    3. Once your drive bar runs out, run around in that area and beat up monsters or objects to get drive orbs(that way you can train your summons and yourself too)

    4. Once you have enough, use a summon and start all over again.
